has there ever been a game which sequel was released on a console from a previous generation?
like:
>x game debutes on ps2
>x game sequel is released on ps1 only
and I'm not talking about ports here
has there ever been a game which sequel was released on a console from a previous generation? like:

closest thing that sprang to mind was gargoyle's quest 1 being on gameboy and 2 being on nes
That's what I was about to post.
Lemme come back to this thread if i think of another.

Ghost Babel is an alternate timeline sequel to Metal Gear Solid, released on the Game Boy Color.
GBC is same gen as PS1. Also, Ghost Babel is an alternative sequel to Metal Gear, NOT Metal Gear Solid.
Kid Icarus 2 on Game Boy.
Virtua Fighter 1 on 32X, VF2 on Genesis.
Metroid 2 on Gameboy
Kid Icarus and Metroid do not fit, the gameboy is weaker hardware but was contemporaneous to the SNES
By the definition of the question both generations would have to be active contemporaneously.
Megaman and Bass came out in the late 90's, after a bunch of the Playstation ones.
Yeah this is what comes to mind for me, it very clearly takes place after 8
Yeah, it is after 8, in every sense of the word, and is probably one of the best examples of what OP is looking for. It was conceived of as the consolation Rockman for kids without a PSX, and within the game code there's even text referring to itself as "8.5"
Another Capcom example would potentially be Mighty Final Fight, since it came out even after the SNES release of FF2. That said, it isn't really so much a sequel as it is a retelling of the first FF.
Thee only ones which come to mind are:
>Polarium (DS)
>Polarium Advance (GBA)
>Mega Man 8 (Sat/PS1)
>Rock Man & Forte (SNES)
Polarium's history is weird. Wasn't it supposed to be in the western Nintendo Puzzle Collection that never happened?
SF1 > PCE
SF2010 > NES
Immediately thought of Road Rash 3. Released on the Genesis in 1995 but was actually the fourth in the series, as Road Rash 3DO came out a year prior on the then next-gen hardware.
MK3 and UMK3
Black/Matrix went from Saturn to Dreamcast to Playstation, had a sequel on PS2, and then a GBA prequel that was remade on Playstation which was the literal last Japanese game for the console.
It depends on if you need it to be exclusive to the previous gen console.
Street Fighter Alpha is released for PS1/Saturn.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 is released for SNES/PS1/Saturn/PC.
Does Kirby’s Dreamland > Kirby’s Adventure count?
There was a Klonoa vollyball game on the PS1 that was made after Klonoa 2 on the PS2. It has all the PS2 characters in PS1 models too which is neat.
Do Yoshi and Yoshi's Cookie count? Both were obviously made to cash in on Super Mario World, despite being on the NES.
I think this is the winning example
nah, road rash 3 is. the only problem it was named as if "reboot" didn't exist.
the series titles went pretty wild:
road rash (1991 - mega drive, amiga + backports)
road rash 2 (1992 - mega drive + backports)
road rash (1994 - 3do, later pc, psx, saturn + sega cd cash-in backport)
road rash 3 (1995 - mega drive)
road rash 3d (1998 - psx) < this one killed the series because it was bad
road rash 64 (1999 - commodore 64, just kidding, might be called a backport of 3d though)
road rash jailbreak (psx + gba port) < best in the series but no one bought it
it's even funnier if we look at mobygames classification instead of the marketing one, as they distinguish games by content.
Donkey Kong Land came out before Donkey Kong Country 2. So for a very brief time it could be considered a sequel exclusively released for an older system.
You could argue this happened with Super Mario Bros. 3 and one or two other Famicom franchises that hopped to the FDS for the sequel and then back to carts for the third entry. Add-ons aren't exactly "next gen" but they are intended to give the impression that they are.
Hang On for Sega Mark III
Hang On II for Sega SG-1000
There are a good few examples if you count the Dreamcast as being a gen ahead of the ps1. Just off the top of my head, Tony hawk and Dino crisis.
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle - Genesis
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World - Master System
Not quite a sequel, but Twisted Metal Small Brawl came out for the PS1 a few months after Black on the PS2
The game is fine, but it got terrible review scores, critics probably thought it was a waste of development resources
MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. PS2 and PSP only.
It wasn't made by Evolution Studios, though.
Mega Man 6 came out 2 months after Mega Man X in America
and 9 came out like 20 years later, it's a different series.
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP)
Best I got
Ps triple and ps pee are the same gen.
the PSP is the same generation as the PS3, it just doesn't look like it because PSP games at best look like a mid-tier PS2 games.
If you ignore the whole "SNES Classic" is a new device detail, Star Fox 2 is the sequel to Star Fox Zero for the Wii U, making it a sequel going 4 generations back
Mega Man Battle Network 5 was on both GBA and DS, while Battle Network 6 was only on the GBA.
Megaman and Bass came out for super Nintendo after Megaman 8 came out for PlayStation
Tales of Phantasia debuted on the Snes, then got a sequel on the PS1 and then got another sequel for the Game Boy.
Same happened to Star Ocean.
Sky Odyssey for PS2 doesn’t have an official sequel but there’s a PS1 game that came out after called Rescue Copter and it has level intros that are EXACTLY the same as Sky Odyssey. It’s odd how similar they are. I’ve tried to correlate the credits to see if there’s any overlap to explain it but there isn’t. If some connection does turn up them it might be an actual example of what OP is asking for.
The Wario Land games jumped from the Game Boy to the Virtual Boy, only to jump straight back when it failed.
Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier both started in the arcade but got sequels for the inferior-hardware home systems
Not quite what OP is asking but a very strange situation.
Wario's Woods came out on NES and got an upgraded port on SNES the same year. However today Nintendo NEVER acknowledges the SNES version exists and only releases the NES version over and over.
I mean, the game itself is barely remembered on its merits. It's more well-known for being the last licensed NES game released in NA, therefore it's the version that most people are likely familiar with. Or something.
I only ever knew it existed because of Animal Crossing and NES Remix. Never even seen a cartridge in the wild.
>Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit (PS3, Xbox 360) June 2008
>Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World (PS2) November 2008
Spiderman 2000 was a multiplat that released for the Dreamcast while its sequel was exclusive to the PS1
It was released first on PS1 you dumb retard
Call of Duty 3 was on several consoles including the PS2 and original Xbox, while COD 2 was only on PC and Xbox 360
