Nah there is pride in being useful to society. Useful people have a million reasons to hate useless fricks especially the mentally ill and socially moronic because they genuinely are beneath them. If you are useful you are entitled to treat the useless like complete shit, not even kidding nobody will bat an eye and will recon you are justified in your behavior. Treat useless people like subhumans if they are ill, dont care about it, make them work on christmas, put a nickname on them that is humilliating, psychologically terrorize them. Its good for society to do this, because they end up killing themselves.

considering the fact that my colleague disappears for 2 hours a day and dumps everything on me and I have to work on weekends pretty much every week I don't feel bad for slacking off sometimes

Im doing it right now, home office has improved the bearability of life to at least 35% by cutting out all the despicable parts of modern work culture, im basically only doing what im actually hired to do on my contract. And doing that on the minimum level to stay employed. The world isnt rainbows and butterfiles enough for me to care about some random companies margins and "our team is a family" lunatics. I suffer work because money makes life less miserable. Its a me problem honey.

It was at one of my first places.
Cleaning metal in a chemical bath that took 20 minutes per load.
I came up with a design that at allowed me to fit twice as many trays into the feeder, so I managed 2x the work at the same time as the rest.
Instead of letting the plates clean for 20 minutes and wasting my time emptying and filling, I rushed the emptying and feeding so I could sit down and relax again. I let them clean for 25 minutes so that the chemical bath could truly clean on the deep parts of the metal. A got feedback from the people who handled them asking if we changed something with the chemical bath machine, because they weren't greasy anymore now that I took over. So not only was my work faster, it was also much better.

So anyway, I started getting bored waiting for 20 minutes (40 minutes per hour was just sitting and waiting).
So I took some candy with me, and my PSP, and played Disgaea AoD.

So here comes the boss, sees me playing, chocked, and a bit angry, but more confused
    >H-hey, you can't be playing, what about the wash machine?
-Oh, I'm just waiting for the scheduled bath to be ready for next swap which is in 7.20 seconds, I have it on a time so it's exactly the same every swap.
    >Well, go clean around around this workflo...
I say as he noticed how clean it was that I have done so every time I was done with a swap, since I too saw that the people previously worked here didn't do that. even cleaned behind the stallage and pallets.

The funny thing was his reply after seeing how clean it was.
Just a shocked smiley and a big thumbs up that he kept up as he started walking again.

Then he came one more time the week after while in a hurry, saw me, and noticed I once again was playing.
    >Psst, we have a costumer coming today, around noon, just to let you know so let's hide that when they are walking on the work floor.
    Oh, visitors, nice!
Then he gives me a big thumbs up once more and proceeds to the other area in the factory.

Got a big raise that month.

      >no commute saving hours every week (right now about 7.5 for me) as well as cost

This is the single best part of WFH.
I've saved so much money and so many hours wasted on public transportation getting to and from work.
I can live with the boring meetings and so on, since I'm getting paid for that shit, but it hurts my brain to think of how much of my life I've wasted getting to work and getting home from work.
I spend a total of up to 3 hours per day commuting to and from work (assuming good traffic).
There are roughly 260 work days per years.
That's at least 780 hours per year of my life spent commuting. That's 32.5 days spent just in commutes.
And that's not just the commute. When you think about it, the hours also include all the time it takes to get ready for work as well. All of this is hours you don't get paid for but are necessary for getting ready for work and reaching the office.

I work remotely and at most my job requires 5 hours a week of me actually working. Even that would be an abnormally busy week that only happens a handful of times per year, usually I only have to do 1-2 hours of work. It's not unusual for me to have entire weeks where all I do is login on my work computer, set my mouse on the jiggler and do nothing else all week except reply to a couple emails. That was how last week went and that's how this week is shaping up to be.

For my trouble I get 180K plus bonuses, and since I live in a small flyover Midwest town I'm a local 1%er. I have spent all morning shitposting and playing vidya. I'm about to have lunch delivered, then it will be time for my 1-3 hour afternoon nap. I can see why the Spanish enjoy siestas. If you want to get this kind of cushy job look for something where you are paid for ideas/knowledge instead of production. My last few positions were based on production and while still pretty easy and remote it wasn't like it is now. I was actually busy for 25-35 hours a week plus the pay was worse. But those positions led me to where I am. Now I have enough experience and credibility and insight in my field I don't have to do the production b***h work anymore. Because I'm an "expert" now the boomer executives pay me to come up with a few ideas per year that will increase the department's efficiency and reduce waste and make us more competitive. Every once in awhile I have to lead a call where I explain my vision to the executives and how my ideas will lead to more revenue then I have to explain it to the production wagies, then it's back to doing nothing.

No, I know what you're talking about from working with consultants using those memes when I was production-based but all my professional experience is in my industry (insurance). I work for an insurance company, not a consulting firm, though I guess consulting is one way to describe what I do. My last position was a senior level production role at a huge insurance company. A small competitor (my current employer) hired me to help them develop something I have a ton of experience with and that's how I ended up on Easy Street.
