It's a very dense game with a lot of complex intertwining systems and movement options. It doesn't tell you any of this though, you have to figure it out on your own. It rewards curious and clever players.

Also, yeah. There's way more to the story.

You don't know anything about the complex creature AI, the relationship system with other species, any of the advanced movement options, or any of the interactions between different items. Because you didn't play the game. Stop acting like you know anything.

Black person individual enemies of the same species have specific personality types that affect how they look, act, and respond to different stimuli from the player. It is objectively a complex system.

I had a similar issue. In Outer Wilds, death doesn't matter since you can get anywhere rather quickly. But in Rain World, dying seems to set you back somehow (I'm not sure in what way). I feel like exploring too much is too risky.

There's no time limit unless you play the red slug.

he meant '' time limit '' as in, as the red slug, you have a limited number of cycles to beat the game. its not for exploring, its a quest with a fail condition

genuine question, how the are DLC cats any more OC donutsteal than Hunter and Monk?

          Anonymous

Hunter and Monk are the same as the original except that Hunter knows how to carry two spears and is terminally ill. The new slugcats all have superpowers.
Anyway, is the DLC good or not?

            Anonymous

I liked the DLC quite a bit yeah. The best part about it is how the slugcats are limited to make up for the new abilities. When you play the game they feel less like superpowers and more like adaptations. For example Rivulet is way faster and can breath longer underwater, but the reason for that is it rains far more frequently at the time where her campaign takes place at. You genuinely have to rush to make it from shelter to shelter in her campaign. This to me in a nutshell is the best part of the DLC, how it changes the nature of the world around you and forces you to adapt to a new set of circumstances for each campaign. It gave me that "first playthrough" level of engagement again that no other mod for the game has come close to giving me. If it were still just a mod I'd consider it one of the most impressive mods I've ever played. As a DLC it has definite problems, which mostly stems from the fact it still is in fact just a fricking mod.

the new abilities honestly make the scugs 10x more fun to play, no matter how oc donut they might be

    >exploring the world, finding different beasts, learning mechanics like interacting with scavengers and taming beasts, and getting better at surviving is not a reward in itself!
    i despise you people

The best thing you could do to improve rain world's world and progression, is to delete the stupid yellow guy that handholds you through everything and gives you a sense of inherent objective. just smooth out the difficulty curves so a new player cant go straight to Filtration (which is already a problem) and youre good to go

      >>if the game doesnt give me an objective strapped to the top of the screen and several questmarkers, its aimless and theres no point!
I dunno I loved outer wilds despite it not having any clear objective or guidance but found rain world kind of tedious. I think even within the same game framework of "here's a big world, it's up to you to decide where, what to do and how to do it, maybe you'll find something out there if you look" there are still ways to do it well and poorly.

I'd say Arti, Riv and Saint are the must-plays. Gourmand is mainly there as a tutorial character and Spearmaster is essentially just the hard mode character.
