Years and years ago, you might have been able to pass off that lie and not just be immediately called out on "You're aggressively assuming they don't have any experience with other games, acting condescending, and then offering no meaningful advice like suggesting an alternative system, but just telling them to not play the game." Maybe, but not likely.

Now, with the stigma associated with the phrase thanks to trolls spamming it nonstop, it's basically impossible to argue that. Hell, you can even go out of your way to write a post with lots of advice you genuinely consider good like listing alternate systems and why they'd be better for a specific task, and then just torpedo your entire post by asking "Have you tried not playing D&D?" and basically asking the person to treat you like an pretentious and elitist homosexual at best, but more likely just as a meme-forcing troll.

There's dozens of threads dedicated to other games on this very board. No one who comes here is ignorant to the idea of other systems existing. Even if it was possible to say it earnestly, it would still be a dumb c**t move, even without the forced meme stigma.

Telling people to try other games can be good advice. But pretending "Have you tried not playing D&D?" could be seen by anyone as wholesome help is like asking people to treat "Don't have one in the first place" as advice to someone asking for the best shampoo for their baby.

I play D&D. In one of my four weekly games.

The other three are: rotating (currently a Castlevania hack but maybe Shadowrun hack soon), rotating (currently Lancer), and Star Wars.

You can play whatever you want, honestly. You just need to put in the effort to build a long term group that is willing to play your gonzo games.

    You lack skill
And unless you were like trying to do GURPS or HERO or some other very crunchy game, there should have been no reason for your failure
Literally, pick up a game lighter than 5e at first, many exist
Then after playing it a few times with your new squad of players, (who if you are not a failure of a human being will be willing to play anything given the slightest bit of coaching) start slowly working your way up to more powerful and masculine games.

It's easy. Impossible for most people here though, since they are autists who can't talk to people and just wanna theorize about rules and lore and coom.

DnD is crunchier than the average game, even ignoring complete rules lite systems most modern rpgs have moved towards a level of simplicity that dnd doesnt have in either, or both, character creation and gameplay.

2). If you can't make friends who will play and have fun together, then you're already doomed.

Its my understanding zoomers are so starved for anything resembling friends that they will go and watch strangers play video games or play TTRPGs together in order to have surrogate digital friends. So my advice is to start with that issue before tackling something requiring social skills, like actually playing an RPG

To be fair I finally played a few mega dungeon sessions with a cool people, and it was one of the coolest OSR-like experiences. Except OSR, I have never played DnD before.

It is not a DnD problem or 5E, this moronic fandom is the problem. WotC make products tailored to them because they are consumerists and spend a lot of money on products, merch and stuff, but they don't play games and then Wizards have to patch the system to make it playable. I'm just guessing, I'm still don't know how to play it

How so? Ive found it ifne, sanity can be a bit finicky but what really makes cosmic horror work is the themes you bring into the game, the system just helps support horror as a whole.
        >and skills are too detailed
you have brain rot, the skills are very broad yet still allow niches.

          >How so? Ive found it ifne, sanity can be a bit finicky but what really makes cosmic horror work is the themes you bring into the game, the system just helps support horror as a whole.
Just Cthulhu Dark is better imo, and I needed house ruled sanity system. Also, every longer campaign/playing loses its horror vibe and is more and more pulp. Maybe it is specific for my group, maybe I am terrible GM and player. And many official adventures are not so great
          >you have brain rot, the skills are very broad yet still allow niches.
cryptography and math as two separate skills. dancing... But I like BRP in general, it is intuitive and simple system, and CoC is one of my favourite games. And I like that there are three separate skills for social interactions.
          >World of Darkness and Dark Heresy
I know WoD only from video game and unfortunately never played Dark Heresy. For some reason I missed a hype on these two games. I heard that official scenarios to DH weren't so good
          >then just play with your own group, you do have a playgroup, don't you?
I have 3. One for wfrp 2e/Warlock! (I copied skills from TDE and some BRP fantasy game, original ones are terrible and after small campaign I see Warlock! more like inspiration, I'm gonna try to play wh on some BRP fantasy mechanic or YZE). Second to play OSR games in fantasy New World, before that Forbidden Lands in Gothic universe. Third to play everything except fantasy and I'm mostly a player.
I just like testing new things or modules outside my groups and then play as a GM with them. :V

If you want to get others into games you're interested in, you need to do the leg work

Learn the rules, watch others play, read into advice from other people, ect. There's more than enough information floating around out there on just about any system.

Run a few small games first to learn the rules, don't dive into a long campaign right away, just small ones that maybe last a month or two to get your feet wet.

Players are more inclined to try games that the person running them knows how to play and can teach them to play, as well as smaller, less commitment heavy lengths of time.

Your first few sessions are going to be shit, and you're going to need to reference the rules often and stumble about, but just do it, homosexual. You'll be good at whatever game you want to run eventually

Honestly, playing with randos online is poison.
You kinda need to find a group of friends or at least people you know okay enough.
First couple of games you run are always gonna be shit, randos won't have the tolerance for that because they don't have a connection with you and thus no reason to stick around.
Friends are way more likely to stick around.
If you don't have friends, go seek out a friendly local game store and make some.

How did you play D&D at first if you didn't have any experience playing it?
If you had an experienced DM, where did they learn it from?
It seems you want to skip the learning curve where you and your group adapt to a new playstyle. Plenty of groups play stuff for the first time with no experience, including D&D. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

pbta rule books are an extreme example given that they are so rules lite that their rules are less than 10 pages. That being said, yes. More people have at least tried pbta and hated it than people who have tried a different and more obscure game system overall.

I tend to agree. It's just an unusual sentiment on /tg/ which tends to hate games that are accessible and good.

I've been searching for a PF2 group for a while now. You'd think it'd be easier to find players, since it's basically 5e, but it isn't. Most others aren't RPGs but shitty story games. And most other RPGs just don't have enough players be it online or IRL. Or when I find some it's grognards or unironic hipsters that think hating something popular is a personality. At least with 5e I can find people who aren't total morons to play with. They may be normies, but better normal people who have fun than all of us here.

So just start a different game with some new players yourself, FFS. How do you think D&D became popular - by people playing it for the first time together. Why do you frickers only want to do activities that others are already doing. What ever happened to people starting activities and communities by being the one to start it themselves. This entire planet is full of mindless followers.
