Xenoblade 3 in general should just have been 150 hours of Future Redeemed rather than what we got.

      Yeah, nah.
I prefer a new story than just referencing past games all the time.

the new story wasn't complete though
every character popped up once and then vanished and the main cast didn't get complete arcs, neither did the villains - game was clearly unfinished to its detriment which stinks because it had a really interesting world and a lot of cool setups

Black person, it's a new story and just has characters from the previous games. That's, you know, what a sequel is.

I like FR but it has issues that would become glaringly more obvious in a full length game
          >Matthew's relationship to N only works because we know who Noah is
          >Rex and Shulk have neither arcs nor a particularly important part in the story that mandated they specifically be present
          >Nikol and Glimmer exist explicitly to give Rex and Shulk some parental moments of fan-service, neither even get any focus in chapter 5's big cutscenes
I think what people like in FR would get really insufferably if dragged out to a 70-80 hour long main game. FR is fun because it's very indulgent in pre-existing Xenoblade lore and characters but it's to the detriment of 5/6s of the main cast requiring pre-existing knowledge to appreciate. And you know FR is doing this because it doesn't even bother to explain the core combat mechanics to you again like Torna did, it's assuming you not only played 3 but 1 and 2 before this.
I mean, narratively, there's not even a particular over-arching goal until Alpha/Na'el shows themselves at the end of Chapter 3. Neither Rex and Shulk nor Nikol and Glimmer nor Matthew and A have a major direction or focus before that point. Matthew wants to find the city people and his sister but they even admit he's just sort of wandering aimlessly.
FR was built with the assumption that they could wrap up its main plot in 20-25 hours, so they feel comfortable with the party basically being handed their motivation in the form of the final dungeon from the start (a final dungeon we're already familiar with)
I get that people wanted more fan-service or liked how Matthew was actually the Reyn/Zeke/Lanz of his party but there's a reason the base game is the way it is.

Anon I like 3, even the ending, but it's blatantly incomplete.

          Anonymous

It's literally not, it's only incomplete if you're the type of person who's incapable of dealing with ambiguity.
Only XB1 really gave a definitive "look at everything that happened with the main party and side characters" montage at the end because they thought that was going to be the end of that story altogether. 3 shows about as much as 2 does of what happens to the world and its characters after the conclusion of its main story, they're both about equally ambiguous in my book.

            Anon, see

            i suppose you're right
that moment after mio reveals m's duplicity though, when noah nuts up again (because of entirely external reasons, nothing internal) and they forcibly get the ouroboros powers back it feels like (for noah and mio at least) there would have been a new form to their ouoroboros. it was exactly the kind of moment and they even showed it in new form language - showing small parts first before giving you a full glimpse at the transformation
but no, it was just ponytail weltall again

He's right. There are scenes and sequences that are undeveloped and rushed - X and Y not getting a cutscene after their death or being integrated into the story in any fulfilling way despite being important enough to get more design materials and being part of the final boss reeks of unfinished development, too. The ambiguity isn't the issue it's the weird cut corners and rushed pacing. Everyone thought Isurd and Nimue would be important to the story during the lead-up, but they weren't. Neither were most Mobius, really. X, Y, the lack of a form 2 for Noah and Mio, the aborted resurrection arc that was going to be used for Lanz and Sena (find the interview yourself), the cut N and M fusion boss fight, 3 was hurt by being pushed early.

              >Everyone thought Isurd and Nimue would be important to the story during the lead-up but they weren't
Misleading advertising because the marketing tried really hard not to show anything past chapter 4 so yeah, minor characters like them and Ethel and Cammuravi appeared more important than they actually ended up being. Even then they're both vital to Taion's character development.
              >Neither were most Mobius, really. X, Y
They're just an alphabet range of Akhos and Patroka or Zanza's Disciple.
              >The lack of a form 2 for Noah and Mio
Sounds like headcanon but lack of Oroboros in cutscenes after the beginning of chp.6 screamed rushed to me.
              >The aborted resurrection arc that was going to be used for Lanz and Sena (find the interview yourself), the cut N and M fusion boss fight
First time I'm hearing any of this and I follow every interview and Dev talk.
              >3 was hurt by being pushed early.
Still, it was only 2 months, most of which was probably just QA which the lack of showed in the game with the food item effects not working properly.

                >First time I'm hearing any of this and I follow every interview and Dev talk.
                Same.
I'm going back to any pre-release or even post-release interview on 3 I can find and I'm not seeing anything alluding to cut arcs
                >Still, it was only 2 months, most of which was probably just QA which the lack of showed in the game with the food item effects not working properly.
                Yeah.
If XB3 feels rushed in any capacity, it was likely made that way by the time the ink cooled on the script, not mid-development re-writes. Being pushed out 2 months early does not mean they would have changed the story or added in entire boss fights worth of assets, animations and programming.
Like it's okay to be disappointed with 3 but your disappointment is likely due to decisions the dev team made years ago, not mid-cycle bumps or constraints

              >There are scenes and sequences that are undeveloped and rushed
That you had an impression that something would happen is not the same as the devs intending to do something and then rushing through it before
The entire point of it being the same is more to show that they're pushing beyond Moebius' power, that even when X tries to force-split their interlink, she's unable to
              >X and Y not getting a cutscene after their death
Because they didn't die, they literally show up again in Z's fight.
              >being integrated into the story in any fulfilling way despite being important enough to get more design materials and being part of the final boss reeks of unfinished development, too
They're present about as much in the artbook as Malos or Jin were (Ironically Akhos, Patroka and Mik got facial expression references but not Malos or Jin)
I did not get the sense that they were meant to be more present given that they only even start to show up later in the story.
              >Neither were most Mobius
Because they're not personal antagonists, they're middle-management. They're closer to Bana than Jin and Malos.
They're generals and captains, not the Prince of Wei.
              >Everyone thought Isurd and Nimue would be important to the story during the lead-up, but they weren't
I REALLY don't get this complaint. They were extremely important for Taion's development and backstory, and they become important again in his Side story.
I think this idea that if you're featured in a trailer, you should probably be a major character of some sort is a bit misguided
              >the lack of a form 2 for Noah and Mio
The "Form 2" is the Origin Sword you get in the fight against Robo-Nia (also Infinity Blade for Noah).
              >the cut N and M fusion boss fight
              ??????
              >3 was hurt by being pushed early.
3 was likely content complete before it got announced.
Given how relatively bug-free the game is, I highly doubt they were going to cram in all this shit in the last few months AND polish/debug it
They were in Beta by feb

on the one hand i think protagonists like matthew can work really well for a full game - not really taking the villains or stakes seriously until they're absolutely forced to and having to grow as a result... and i would have loved to see that, it would have been great to unlock ouroboros' totality after a lengthy several chapters of game, then pull out the mass fusion during the final boss instead of just getting ouroboros at the start of the game and NEVER upgrading it
on the other hand it feels like 3 is necessary to set up so much of the context of future redeemed. very confused production, but getting FR out of it made the experience worth it

Getting the extra 3 was technically supposed to be the "upgrade"
      >on the other hand it feels like 3 is necessary to set up so much of the context of future redeemed
I don't really think so honestly. It only feels like that because FR was made as a DLC. If it was supposed to be the actual game from the start then it would have had a better lead in.

        You did upgrade them.
My issue with Ouroboros has more to do with how they're actually set up in gameplay than the lack of upgraded forms later in the game. Noah gets his 'Pneuma' in the Infinity Blade so that's fine.
The issue with Ouroboros is that Levels 1 and 2 don't have any reason to exist compared to level 3.
Level 3 unlocks combo abilities, The other arts should have had effects that unlock at level 1 or 2, so you'd have incentive to maybe pop Ouroboros early just to get something useful out of them

I feel like most people who found Noah to be boring missed his entire point, you can't separate his characterization from N. N is a version of Noah who was dealt she shittiest hand and pushed to his limit and it brought out the darkest parts of his being.
Meanwhile Noah, who is essentially the same body and soul, was blessed with love and great friends and overcomes his adversity without straying from the right path. He acknowledges he "got lucky" and forgives N at the end.

What I find fun about Noah is that you do see occasional hints of his darker sides, like when he does his Ouroboros Finisher he starts it off with a very artful sequence of slashes only to turn around screaming & go for one more violent slash, as if he couldn't hold his composure. Or things like his Ouroboros form getting stronger the closer he is to overheating. I think at least some of that stuff has to be deliberate and maybe was too subtle for its own good.

I'm happy to see someone with some media literacy.
He's a bit of Liu Bei, a bit of Samurai-Philosopher. I think it's okay to like the more hot-blooded protagonists, but someone like Noah isn't bad either, especially when he does have some fun quirks like his inability to come up with non-cringe names or his emotional immaturity to not recognize that Mio was going through a mortality crisis when she blew up at him.
My only complaint about Noah is that some of his writing is a little temporally inconsistent.
He says that he found the homecoming to be sad and mournful when they saw it back in the day to Lanz, but then his side-story with Crys suggests he only started being critical of the way their lives were when Crys pushed him to start questioning the world around them.
That's a relatively small thing but it felt like they forgot that Noah was sort of always critical of the 10 term system and the Homecomings and tried to make Crys more important by having those realizations come from him instead
Side Story Noah is probably the one spot I felt like they just got lazy with the writing. Started off with the actually really cool Crys cutscene of him inventing the Homecoming ritual but then it doesn't really go anywhere from there

      Anonymous

No, Z embodies humanity's desires. People were fearful of the worlds colliding and the future, so Z was created and manifested the Endless Now they desired right before collision.
Nia and Melia opposed this, so Z retaliated against them since they were now his (read: humanty's) enemies. It's the same reason why he helped Shulk and Rex fight Alpha.

To expand on this, when intersection began, most matter and people got Annihilated and became energy, but their souls remained. All of that energy rushed into Origin, which was supposed to redirect all of that energy into recreating the worlds. It’s a little like Instrumentality from Evangelion. Except the primary emotion people were feeling when they fricking exploded was fear of the future and what comes next so that emotion sort of coagulated like a blood clot from all their energetic forms in Origin and Z was what that looks like
