Fedora 39, which also means Nobara as a whole. Nobara is inherently behind Fedora so it's like you got a couple extra months in case of something bad.

This seems to go over some peoples head here in Ganker. Not all Linux users are MEGA autistic. Casual -stable like Mint runs like butter.

this, something stable like fedora would have never even seen a vulnerability like this enter its codebase.
Fedora in particular has the least CVE's published of all major distros, dispite being one of the oldest. Less than Debian, less than Ubuntu (and mint etc), less than arch, less than gentoo

Fedora was one of the affected distros you moron, it was on a early release branch of it.

Its mild pain because you are partially right, everything you say is correct, not a lie. But it still isn't truth founded on good knowledge that understands a holistic picture.

Very small portion of Linux users use those experimental early builds. They are meant for those code nerds who are invested in tinkering and finding these kinds of things in their free time, as a hobby. I promise you, out of the Linux users in Ganker (theres dozens of us) only a very small portion was affected.

This is not something that affect the common folk, everyman. The early unstable build release cycle of open source projects is working as intended. Yes it would be fantastic if no malicious activity was ever created, would be no need for police etc.

            But you are correct, yes.

My WINE is up to date. I've done corefont and allfonts. I found the vemana2000 and placed it in the wine prefix /windows/fonts directory. Thje only thing left is trying to sift through WINEDEBUG.

something's wrong with your visual C++ redists
looking up the missing function it seems like you've got the version installed for XP, you need at least the windows vista or 7 versions
my guess is wine is defaulting to an older version for some reason, you should be able to get the updated setups from MS

Seems you've moved past this by now, but for future reference use
      WINEDEBUG=fixme-all

'Sell' me on loonix. I don't have an amd gpu and my shit's nearly 7 years out of date. I rarely play recent games unless they're tactics games(mostly turn based) and even then they don't really have impressive or demanding graphics(the exception being Ayy Dark Descent and Elden Ring which I could not run at 60 and thus dropped both).
I use the occasional video editing software(kdenlive), the rare drawing software(krita) and every now and then start a programming project for the hell of it in the hopes that I eventually yesdev.
Why should I switch to loonix now over being a lazy frick and postponing that until win 10 stops being "okay enough" and requires a switch?

There is nothing to sell t. linux user.
If you are annoyed by windows, then change. Linux is better at doing nothing until you tell it to, and it really is the main selling point for me.
It's for people who would treat their PC as a hobby. It is the same kind of idealization that some car owners feel when changing their own tires, oil, and smaller or bigger repairs.
I don't know how to sell anything over lazyness :DDD

      Anonymous

if you're want to be flexible in case of windows becoming intolerable, dip your toes by replacing all your current software with linux-friendly alternatives. you're already good on kdenlive and krita, that'll make things much easier than for the typical vegas/adobe babby. if you can replace all your software and still do your usual tasks comfortably, it'll be much easier to switch if the need arises. the hard part of switching to linux isn't installing it and running it, it's staying and fixing when things go wrong instead of just going back to windows at the first inconvenience. it's a much easier trap to fall into when you're learning new software while learning a new OS and none of it is working the way you're used to.

yep. It comes with like nothing preinstalled that you would normally expect. ffs it doesn't even come with firefox. GE may know what he's doing packaging winebuilds, but a distro spin was way beyond him. It can't even get nvidia drivers done right, I tried it on an old comp with a 1060, the script didn't set the nomodeset kernel param, meaning the driver didn't load.
