Here we are, months later. Nobody has figured out how to get this damn thing.

- There's supposedly a requirement of 200 Happiness according to Serebii and sites parroting them. I've had Pokemon gain it that were barely at or over the limit, but there's at least one other requirement because I have dozens of 'mons at full Happiness who haven't gotten it.
- Nothing to do with walking or Let's Go mode. Tested and confirmed, despite "common knowledge" on Twitter, I've had 'mons get it without having ever taken a step outside their ball.
- Nothing to do with raids. Again, tested and confirmed, only one of my raid Pokemon have it and most of the others who do have never even seen a raid.
- Happiness and Friendship are a single mechanic and have been for several generations now.
- EVERYBODY has a story about "well, I have a Pokemon with the mark and I did this, so..." that doesn't actually help because there's no evidence.
- One of my dedicated 'mons who I've kept on my team almost the entire game doesn't have it. One I bred and fed candies to then spent 5 minutes EV training does.

It might legitimately just be random.

Mattyoukhana says that it's a random chance per player step after 200 happiness, not pokemon steps. I think it's the most plausible of the theories

If this is true, that has to be the shittiest way to get it. Thanks gamefreak.

      Can't explain these occurences

Same with my Gallade and a bunch of other 'mons I'm using for raids. Sounds plausible.

Yeah. Totally random. So far only two of my mons have it, and one of them were never in my active team lineup. I just leveling up my Armarouge to use him as a raidmon using candies and vitamin during the jobber bunny raids before I realized that this mark appeared out of nowhere

I have it on a Dragapult. I have very rarely (if ever) used it in battle. I caught it at lv 35 and leveled it up to lv 60 just to fill dex, then promptly boxed it.

So that supports your theory about this having nothing to do with raids/walking.

Why wasting RAM for generating random numbers each step?

The one pokemon that I have that has this is a Breloom with spore and false swipe that I used for catching stuff. I've had 3 other pokemon that I always keep in my party for the same length as Breloom and they've yet to get it.

That's crazy because I also have a Breloom that has it and I use it for the same reason.

It's random, I'm not sure why this is still being questioned. I have a Haxorus with it that had it when I caught him as an Axew.
It was one of the guaranteed wild terastal mons, if that means anything.

Why are we larping like this is a big mystery? It's when your pokemon are friendly, I've got 3 of them now, I don't get the big fuss.

Because some people are getting on pokemon that aren't friendly

As others have said, it's a slight chance per step at 200+ friendship. Just leave a rubber band on your Switch overnight and you'll get it

I'm confident it's tied to picnics. At least the application of it anyways.
Probably has to do with washing them.

Again, I've got it on a pokemon that had it when I caught it. 0 friendship, no picnics. I had no idea it was even supposed to be rare or anything, or I would have taken pictures at the time.

Just run around in a circle. Usually at least one person in the party will get it within 2 hours. Many of my pokemon that have it were never used for anything besides raising them to level 50, ev training them and then leaving the controller to run in a circle for a few hours.
