          Anonymous

Much smaller chip for better yeilds meaning more profit, but more importantly another shift in the stack. 60ti is now where the 80ti was. Sell the 4060TI for $599 - between 3070/80, no perf $ increase, no devaluation of 3000 series.

          5060ti for $799, 6060ti $999.

            Anonymous

It's also a shift in the performance stack.

            1060 = 980
            2060 = 1080

            3060 = 2070 (a downgrade. should be 2080)
4060 Ti = 3070 (an even bigger downgrade)

Interesting. Though we're winning as well if it's more efficient too. Especially with the moronic clown who refuses to surrender to the schizo, so prices of electricity and gas is skyrocketing everywhere.

          Anonymous

They've been doing this for at least 5 generations. The new cards usually have lower power usage, slightly better specs, better performance, and lower msrp.

Easy example is the gtx 970 vs 1060
          >die size: 398mm^2 vs 200
          >base clock speed: 1050 vs 1506
          >boost clock speed: 1178 vs 1708
          >vram: 3.5gb vs 6gb
          >tdp: 145W vs 120
          >msrp: $329 vs 249
I don't know why people are surprised. The bigger question is why they're inflating prices when their gaming revenue and profit (net income) have fallen off a cliff with the death of mining.

Because AMD's CPUs and GPUs share the same fabs, but they make way more money with CPUs. So they'd rather paper launch their graphics cards and maximize profits, than actually fight for market share.

No?.. Your latency will always be based on the native refresh rate. I am not saying that it is bad. But it doesn't improve latency.

            Anonymous

You are confused. This isn't interpolating frames. Even the "ai generated" frames allow your monitor to respond faster. Rendering at the lower resolution allows for faster response in any case. There is NO situation where DLSS adds latency, otherwise FSR and AMD would be calling it out and it would be big news.

If you plan on having your GPU for at least 5 years, you should buy current gen
As time goes on the older gens get less driver optimization. Gradually performance gets worse than newer gen GPUs of similar or even slightly less power in moderns games.

Not saying it's good, just that there are some clear reasons why you'd pick it over the 3070. It's a shit price for a 60-class card and price/perf didn't improve at all, which hasn't ever been the case before as far as I remember. Even when AMD was stuck on GCN1/2/3 they at least lowered the prices for the same tier of performance every time.

poorgay tbh. have a 3060 Ti and happy with it but i'd bne lying if i said im not tempted by the 4070 Ti despite the shit price. 3090 tier performance is enticing. I cant afford a new card though. It sure would be nice to be able to play 4K and higher settings without using DLSS performance all the time. 192 bit bus is crazy though but youtube videos make it seem like it isn't a problem at least not yet. But I'm just gonna stick with my 3060 Ti and see if I can wait until the 5000 series

It doesn't matter IF the cards are well maintained. The fans are probably fricked, but the rest should be perfectly fine.
But sometimes you get this: https://videocardz.com/newz/radeon-gpu-cracking-not-caused-by-drivers-storing-conditions-and-cryptomining-to-blame
Basically, this YouTuber/repair shop received a bunch of AMD cards with cracked dies and other weird hardware failures. He blamed muh drivers at first, but it turns out they were mining cards. The previous owner probably cleaned them like this https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yVmetm1RwAM but didn't dry them properly, so the cards literally exploded when he turned them on again.

I jumped ship from AMD to intel in 2016. I forced myself to upgrade my barely 2 year old 280x when the 1070 came out because I got a 3440x1440 monitor. Then it snowballed from there because my 8350 was 'bottlenecking' my 1070 so I got a 6700k. It took weeks to even have a 1070 in stock while using a stock tracking website (even back then people were snatching up all gpus for mining) Now I sit here with a system I've had longer than my AM3 system and I still only play old ass games like I did in 2010. Even spending 489 for my gigabyte 1070 seemed like a fortune.

Nah this was before zen was still out and at Ganker we were just praying for AMD to have something that can match sandy bridge IPC because most games still didn't care about more than two threads and valued high IPC. Now amd has MOAR CORES and the IPC to match.

                die
                >>256 bit bus
what do these mean? not very familiar with the specifics of a GPU and what influences its performance

Pic related is the GPU die. The bigger it is, the more expensive the card is to produce. Costs scale exponentially, not linerarly: a 600mm die is much harder to produce, and thus much more expensive, than a 300mm die.
"256 bit bus" refers to the memory bus. Bigger memory bus = more bandwidth = more fast. But also, you guessed it, more expensive to produce.

What Anon is saying is that the 4060Ti is XX50Ti card sold for $500.

The Series X is like, 30 times faster? Maybe more? The performance gap is way too big, it's impossible to make a proper comparison. Just to give you an idea, back in 2005 Sony said the PS3 was 35 times faster than PS2: that's how huge the performance gap is.
So yes, the Switch is very slow nowadays.

There doesnt seem to be a good value 1440p gpu though. An rtx 3070 costs 650 yuros. An RX 6700xt costs 470 eur but it's ayymd..
Rtx 3060ti is 500 eur, but it sounds way too weak to be viable for several more years.

m8 ultraperformance was intended for 8k displays. it looks like crap even at 4k.

looks better than scaling to 1080p on 32" native 1440p

I genuinely wish I went with 1080p. I got a 1440p monitor because I got memed into it on pcbg, and while it does look nice, the performance hit barely seems worth it. I could have just got a 1080p high refresh rate monitor, a 3060ti and been set for 5 years

you can build decent pc for 650$ with rx 6600 r5 5600 16gb ddr4 and 1T SSD its vastly more powerful than current gen consoles but im not sure if its future proof enough, pc ports are so garbage nowadays, modern """devs""" incompetence has no limits, i can see this being not enough for ~~*AAA*~~ games.

a rx 6600 is not "vastly more powerful than current gen consoles". the graphics solution in xsex is pretty much 1:1 to a 6700xt.

I genuinely wish I went with 1080p. I got a 1440p monitor because I got memed into it on pcbg, and while it does look nice, the performance hit barely seems worth it. I could have just got a 1080p high refresh rate monitor, a 3060ti and been set for 5 years

I'm fine with people spending their own money however they want, as long as they're aware of the fact they are getting scammed. You still want to pay $900 for a 4070Ti? Sure, go for it, it's a great card. But know the only reason it costs more than $400 is because we're in a post mining boom market and Nvidia is trying to milk its consumers as much as possible.
There are no "good" deals right now, not even from AMD. No, the two year old RX 6600 isn't "a steal" for $250, that's how much the 30-40% faster RX 7600 should cost.

As long as you say "Listen, I know I'm getting fricked but I don't care, I want my frames," I'm fine with it.
It's only when people say "I bought a 3080 for just $600, what a great deal" that I get unreasonably mad. Because it means Nvidia succeded in normalizing higher prices, and the ignorant consumer is ruining the market for everyone else.

this is just nvidia squeezing people for extra money. amd isnt any better right now. they see that people are willing to buy at those prices and thats what theyre selling at.

Good to hear, inflation is more like 40% here in Romania, but only for consumer products - food mostly oh and the energy is still high but we produce all of it internally so that's ok for people that buy from state.

unfortunately food is a bit of a different story. because a lot of europes food came from russia and the ukraine. i expect those prices will be inflated for a while yet until some sort of resolution is reached in the conflict. i know in germany they are switching over to be self sustaining so their prices might normalize quicker when it comes to food.
i cant speak to energy as i have no experience in that but when it comes to labor for manufacturing and raw materials for tech the prices have gone down. the issue is big tech companies are now used to the bigger prices and people are paying them so they have no reason to go down again unless people dont purchase things.
the reduction in materials and manufacturing are seen as profit increases and the reductions are pocketed rather than passed on to the consumer.

To be fair people analyzing the prices and the situation over Nvidia, especially on Ganker over these last years said something along your lines. That the price is mostly their greed and it's not justified.
And also that most of their 3000 stock was sold to minders and that even then it didn't perform as intended.
Now even mining is over lol.

There's a gamernexus video explaining how Nvidia is using performance gains to increase the prices effectively negating any generational shift improvements, and they've done for so long that he predicts a possible XX60 tier card to be $50, while basically or linearly performing the same as your old 1060 did back in the day for much more less.

Personally I think they are using they're only profitable products to subsidize the rest of the company's shitty products.

    https://chipsandcheese.com/2022/11/02/microbenchmarking-nvidias-rtx-4090/

But Ada Lovelace’s improved cache architecture deserves a lot of attention. AD102’s L2 cache implementation is dramatically improved over GA102’s. Obviously, it tackles the memory bandwidth problem by increasing L2 cache capacity, almost to AMD Infinity Cache levels. The amazing part is that Nvidia has done this while also improving L2 cache performance compared to GA102. AD102’s L2 has more bandwidth, allowing it to feed the additional compute capacity. It has reduced latency, making it easier to utilize the available bandwidth. Better L2 latency indirectly reduces VRAM latency as well, because a significant portion of VRAM access latency is just moving data across the GPU die. Ada Lovelace does that faster. And of course, AD102 should have to hit VRAM less often than GA102.

Why is Ganker so moronic? Large L2 caches amplifies available bandwidth and Nvidia has reduced L2 cache latencies despite adding significantly more L2 cache in the newest GPU microarchitecture

""Future proofing"" turned out great for AM4 users, a friend of mine went from a Ryzen 1600 to a 5600. Same motherboard, same RAM: he spent €130 for the new CPU, 2x performance.
So I can see why people would rather get AM5 than AM4 or Intel right now. That said, there's no guarantee AMD will keep their word, they almost didn't with AM4: the only reason they started supporting their older motherboards is because Intel started kicking their ass.

The 3070 is less than $500 today. I got a 3070 Ti for $490 4 months ago. Another DOA 4000 series card.

...for less than a 3070. The only problem with the Ti was it's stupid pricing. If you could get it for the same or close to the price of a 3070, it's still a better card. Even managed to undervolt it enough to knock 110w off it.

My eyesight is so fricked that I literally start having migraines and cluster headaches when I play on high refresh monitors or ones with heavy 3H anti-glare matte coating. Only logical upgrade over my 2560x1080 60Hz monitor is a 3440x1440 60hz one, at best I require something along the line of 3080 RTX or 6800 XT with every cranked up to ultra. Let's hope 4070 or 7700 XT costs $500 and I can peacefully retire my 1070.

There is nothing under $1000 that'll be a exciting upgrade from my 1080 ti or thousands of others stuck on the new G92, because the 12GB 3080 is around $1200 for a good one. Just look at STALKER 2's recommend requirements, a 1080 ti is where the starting point is, and 11GB of tightly-timed GDDR5X on a 352-bit bus is a LOT more than what cards Nvidia claims replaced it can offer, same deal with it's core count, as a chunk of those on an RTX card are half-precision cores non-RTX/DLSS games will never use in any meaningful way

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1643320/STALKER_2_Heart_of_Chornobyl/

Nvidia completely fricking RAM for higher resolutions on all but the x080's and onward has ruined the concept of a midrange GPU, but both Nvidia AND AMD were slow to acknowledge resolutions beyond 1080p were mainstream as early as 2016, although AMD is a lot less stingy on sizes in comparison nowadays. The problem is that Nvidia doesn't see AMD as a competitor in the high-end, so their idea of replicating that strategy is throwing 12GB of slow GDDR6 on a 3060, while keeping the 3070's in an 8GB ghetto because something like a 12GB 3070 ti would absolutely cannibalize 10GB 3080 sales and onward

Shit like the 10GB 3080 may as well have been named "average DAG size edition" considering these cards were made in a universe where ETH was going to be mined forever, and half of my upgrade apathy is because these are NOT gaming cards in any real sense and Nvidia doesn't need to be enabled. Crypto-tailored launches aside, the whole "dedicate a chunk of the die for RTX/DLSS bullshit" was a terrible design decision and not worth what appears to be really inconsistent RTX performance on all but the $1000+ cards, wherein the DLSS bandaid comes in. I'd rather have a card that can do that natively

I didn't pay attention to the 2000 launch because that's how I got my 1080 ti, but when I looked to see if a 2080 ti might be a cheap upgrade, I saw they're only 11GB, frick the hell off

Are you the main character? If so, Sony will make a PS5 Pro only because you bought a 6600. If you don't buy it, the PS5 Pro will never be made.

Even if Sony and Microsoft wanted to release midgen refreshes, they wouldn't happen for another 2 years at minimum. They can't even make enough of the current models to satisfy demand.
