The last time I played Overwatch was in 2016, but this still angers me. Not even the porn is going to be good now, they just look like complete and utter shit.
I like some of the changes, but in some cases it feel like they're overly designed and others they're under designed. Like the belts on tracers legs on an artistic level helps break up her design a bit which is more interesting, Mei lacks detail overall, Genji with clothes is a weird style choice, and Reinhardt is a bit too cluttered.

Yep, the new design is a massive downgrade for almost every character. Some characters look completely different. Characters lost defining features and they lost the "edge". OW1 had a fun but serious tone, the little lore we got was serious and now everything is full cartoony lolrandumb.
The music is still damn good but even that lost the epic tones. It is clear the game is not serious from now on. The devs are 100% responsible for this by neglecting the lore. This was already obvious by the time the D.va short dropped. It followed the serious tone of the rest of the shorts. People felt it is out of place because of the daily dose of Gremlin D.va the fanbase had to make up for the lack of canon.
If you look at the artistic design everything screams "rounded". From the new skins to the menus. Everything. The character portraits tell it all. Everyone looks like a battle hardened veteran in OW1. They have seen some shit. Brigitte doesn't and there is a reason for it. She is a newb with full of hopes and dreams. This was the default idea behind the characters which slowly turned into the mix of soft fan made ideas. Does OW1 Mercy looks like a moron support who sucks wiener? No she is though as nails who isn't afraid to gun down anyone who threatens her. Zaryia is the definition of a war veteran. Junkrat is suicidal not a clown. Winston is probably the only one who kept the original look because there wasn't much to be done there.
Poor D.va was essentially a bratty Eva pilot to cope with her situation of fighting impossible odds and now she is a walking meme catalog. They even filled her up because it bothered them she looks like a child and the fanbase liked it too much.
almost nobody from the original team is working on ow2
That wouldn't explain why the artistic design is deliberately Fortnite-ish. They did it to make it more appealing for kids and to make it look like it is really different but it isn't. Compare the Tracer/Widowmaker short with the Kiriko one. Ultimately Overwatch lost the Blizzard appeal and chases trends.

I get it but I wish games, especially games from big studios had integrity and not trying to chase something that only really works for another game. I keep bringing up Fortnite as a negative but everything they do is actually a positive FOR THEM. The entire game is built as crazy crossover where everything is allowed.
It's the same thing when companies change logo, everything becomes that bit more rounded, sleek, less edgy etc.
Is there a word for this?
The Funko-ization of media?
Much like how in nature, everything evolves into becoming crab-shaped; in media, everything evolves into nebulous/indistinct "easy-on-the-eyes" blobs.
>2.5k players peak after less than a month
Yeah...
And for what it's worth, "patience" isn't enough to unlock suits, because you literally cannot earn currency by playing once the BP and beginner challenges are complete. That means you get two (2) out of five (5) paywalled suits. And that assumes you can stomach the constant leavers, fricked up servers, etc.
I prefer new Symmetra. Before she looked like some lab assistant, now she's a regal tech goddess. Only issue is that her design doesn't reflect her new role as a DPS rather than Support which is what she used to be, which does work to her benefit as a lot of people are unaware of how dangerous she is.
That image doesn't have the desired effect so whoever made it didn't do a good job of keeping people away from the game. I played the game and it gets repetitive fast, otherwise it's fun for a few hours every now and then.
If you want to scare people away from the game try to bend it towards pro sjw shit and ugly women, not "this woman looks younger and anime", that won't work because the main audience likes young women and anime. >mei looks less fat
And that's supposed to be a negative? you want pro-fat, pro-obesity messages in your media?
>objectively downgraded art style
That implies the original Overwatch even had an artstyle to begin with.
It never had anything resembling an artstyle. It's just generic soulless Pixar 3D shit. There is no personality behind any of the designs.

This. OW always looked liked it had no cohesive visual identity. Still, they fricked up by making OW2 look worse.
The Reinhart take is just moronic. He looks objectively better and I don't even play OW2

What a moronic pic but the redesign look minimal thus meaningless

Good way of putting it. They're much more "softer".

New character artist? Supposedly Blizzard bled a lot of staff recently.

You do realise they out-sourcing these shorts?
>he thinks outsourcing is telling the slaves to do whatever with the material
almost nobody from the original team is working on ow2
Every time I see this list, it looks like some chink mobile dev made a bootleg overwatch with fake but close enough portraits of the game
damn they turned junkrat into the TF2 scout
they domesticated junkrat
Good take.

Fortnite popular with kids, OW goes fortnite

The artstyle is the same you idiot

Probably lowered the graphics because it’s f2p and they want people to be able to run it on lower end systems?
Didn’t Tf2 do the same thing?
The original game ran at 60 FPS on a 770, do you really think they had people with 10+ year old hardware in mind?
Am I supposed to be mad? It barely looks any different.
They changed the sillouetes of characters for no reason so now more characters look similar at first glance .
Also the idea of limiting how many tanks you can have per team is the most creatively bankrupt idea I've ever seen in a game.
>"HEY GUYS, READY FOR SUPER MARIO GALAXY 3? WE LIMITED MARIO'S TOP SPEED! AND NOW HE CAN ONLY JUMP TWICE IN A ROW! IT'S A FEATURE!""
>They changed the sillouetes of characters for no reason
the artist isn't working at blizzard anymore
Just play Gundam it's superior in every way
>"but doesn't that have freemium gacha stuff in it? If I don't pay, it will take days to unlock everyone!"
Yes. Being an impatient casual is a costly fate.
I'd rather fight a thousand genjis supported by Moiras than 1 (one) Exia
>2.5k players peak after less than a month

This game looks like absolute dogshit visually. Can’t touch something that literally copied another product but made everything cheap
>days
>to unlock everything
Don't lie to him, I've been playing for about a week and can only unlock 1 suit.

Genji look funny, like it went from cyber ninja to a fortnite skin with a sweetshirt/sweetpants on
The whole idea is to remove any sense of edge and instead become bing bing wahoo approved.
But he literally has his old skin in the game still
Not the default. Not the cover skin.
Lmaoing@genji, what a shit redesign, from cyborg ninja to techwear Gankerggot.

You can still use the original skins if you're this autistic about it. They didn't remove them from the game.
