Would be a cool prologue though trying to start a farm but failing and being forced into a gang due to debt. Wouldn’t mind either narratives if you can be an overly violent Hispanic anyway.

As a Britbong, GTA UK would fricking suck.
You're limited to London. Other citys like Newcastle, Manchester or Liverpool wouldn't work since they dont have any big landmarks or deeply iconic aspects to pull from. It doesn't help that every UK city has been slowly getting more 'Americanized' from all the chains from the USA.
Even Yakuza figured to stick to the same iconic places.

Make an open world crime game set in London starring a time traveling protagonist
You're a wanted criminal from the 2050's who somehow gained access to a time travel device. Jumping between 1100, 1500, 1800, 1965 and 2020, you're aiming to change the past and build a criminal empire unlike anything history has seen with you as the top dog in 2050.
Due to some limitation of the time travel tech you'll unfortunately always be stuck within the London area.

His core point of rehashing locations stands though. Why no GTA Chicago? GTA Philadelphia? GTA Atlanta? SA was awesome because it covered 3 cities.

        Anonymous

        >Why no GTA Chicago? GTA Philadelphia? GTA Atlanta?
Those cities suck and with the exception of Philadelphia are not iconic, especially for international audiences. No one wants to play a GTA set in those except maybe a few residents of those cities. Florida has shitloads of untapped potential. It's a fricking circus, filled with crime and a diverse ecosystem, plus a GTA game hasn't been set there in almost two decades. Not exactly like they're rehashing old ground when you consider that.
        >SA was awesome because it covered 3 cities.
It's not the sole reason it was awesome. Some of the rumours suggest multiple cities in VI so a Vice City is Miami and there will be a Tampa or Jacksonville knock off along with an Orlando that has a Disneyworld parody. Sounds pretty cool.

If they were going to do a multiple cities one I think a border Mexico/Texas would be awesome and has lots of potential with all the cartel shit. Maybe pretend New Mexico and Arizona doesn't exist and stick a Nevada next to Texas so they could also put Las Venturas there.

          Anonymous

They aren't doing multiple cities, twice now in current gen they've downsized the map.
I'm guessing because it's cheaper + sequel bait or the chance they have zero clue on how to handle multiple large cities.

            >They aren't doing multiple cities, twice now in current gen they've downsized the map.

              Anonymous

Multiple leaks have stated that there is Vice City, and then a Jacksonville, Tampa and Orlando equivalent. It's going to be an entire state and not just Vice City and I think some map autists have said that the prison that Lucia is at seems to be in Tampa.

                Anonymous

Yeah, that's what I'd thought hence why I was surprised at the suggestion the map has been downgraded. If anything they might have downgraded the empty space in which case I give zero fricks. GTA V's map was a big nothing. But even then I don't think it's the case at all.

Boston. Also has more potential for a game. Chicago's iconic crime period was 100 years ago. Nowadays it's just Black folk shooting each other. What does it even have in terms of noteworthy monuments, streets or landmarks? Wrigley Field? Big deal.

What recent crime movies has Chicago generated that aren't set in the 1920s that leave it in the public's eye?
Boston has The Departed, The Town and Mystic River just to name a few. Plus it's not just the Irish with Boston, It's Irish and Italian gangsters which both have long standing rivalries and histories that are still going today.

GTA doesn't really make sense outside of the US.
US Culture dominates globally, and America is the only major country where you can literally buy semi-auto rifles and grenades over the counter in a store, as well the only one with mass shootings, high speed chases etc etc.
Australia used to be very similar to the US, but then they had some massive mass shooting and the country became a no-gun, curfew for adults police state, Australia also doesn't have the cultural impact for everyone to recognise and laugh at.
UK is the only other place GTA could be set, and it would have to be the 1960s since that was the last time the UK was relevant globally in terms of popular culture, still, nothing approaching the US.
The other issue with US cities as well, everyone in the world knows of Miami, New York, LA. The only other major US city they could do is Vegas and frankly, it doesn't provide any where near the variety that the others do, it's flat desert, Red Rock National Park, a reservoir and nothing else. Maybe, San Francisco as well.
Remember GTA isn't actually an American game, it's Brits making fun of Americans, so the game has to be relevant to what British people think of when they think the United States.

      Anonymous

      >Australia used to be very similar to the US, but then they had some massive mass shooting and the country became a no-gun
We still are pretty much USA 2.0 and we're only no-guns for legal, law-abiding citizens that want a gun for self defence. If you're a criminal and want to purchase one illegally you'll have no issue. If you look at the gun deaths in Australia (which are still low per capita and not even 1 per 100k) they're mostly gangsters shooting each other in public. We literally have gang wars going on at the moment over control of the illegal tobacco trade which has become so lucrative because cigarettes are taxed so highly here.

GTA has always been liberal the thing that is at most right-wing about the game are the libertarian themes, ideology that is just classic liberalism. Take2's problem is that they're going to dictate things in GTA the main concern is GAAS shit maybe they'll make single player seamingless integrated with the online mode which makes single player always online and at best you can play on private servers but again you still need to subscribe to rockstar social club. Activison convinced everyone to use their phone number to play COD so Take2 will effortlessly achieve the same.

Why is it always pajeets and trains?

The funny part is they always underestimate them in the exact same way, thinking they're as wide as the tracks. I don't get it, like there's no way you haven't at least seen a train up close if you live that close to the tracks, you should know how wide they are.

European and (most) Asian cities are too compact to really be built in a wide GTA game, as well as having an organic city layout as opposed to a grid system.
India, Canada, Brazil and China are probably the only other real contenders, plus you can't really run around with a gun in fricking London and good luck even finding a car in Amsterdam

GTA has a chaotic, grimy, violent vibe to it.

It’d be kind of fun to see a GTA in someplace like Sydney. The way Australia is perceived often feels like a chaotic, anything-goes party land like how GTA portrays America.

        Anonymous

Sydney these days is a deserted ghost town. Super high rental prices forced out most young people, then the lockout laws (adult curfew at 1:30am) and extremely overbearing authoritarian nanny state killed basically the entire nightlife off. Something like 95% of Sydney nightlife venues closed in the past decade.
Sydney was a party capital in the late 1990s and early 00s, but it's been dying ever since and often tops the lists of most "dead" major city in terms of culture/nightlife on earth.
Sydney makes sense from a like, aesthetic/recognisability viewpoint, but not from a cultural one. Surfers Paradise is Australia's miami and Australia's party capital, and Melbourne is Australia's organised crime/cultural capital.

            Anonymous

Not that anon but no they were lockout laws designed to reduce nighttime violence that were, like most laws introduced in Australia, completely reactionary with absolutely zero foresight. They were removed in 2021 but it's too late, business were killed off. Clubs, bars, nightspots along with all the restaurants and other stores that fed off that business all suffered significantly and many closed down. Coof was the final nail in the coffin for many that managed to survive.

I feel Rockstar's biggest challenge is to Take2 than twitter busybodies not that they have much effect on popular opinion normies end up regurgitating shit from twitter midwits but that's it Twitter has no real world effect on game sales. Take2 is the main problem GTAO was huge and normies don't care that they're being practically scammed Hardcore GTAO playing communities and single player gamers are still a small percentage that's the problem with GTA normie appeal of the franchise is a double edged sword because it ends up giving Take2 more power to do any shit I expect a GAAS nightmare like NBA2K

The reason the game may even have such a big map, according to leaks, is because they know people will be playing it for 10+ years due to GTO.

Let’s be honest, every other country’s government would shit themselves and fling lawsuits at R* if their major cities got spoofed int a GTA game. On top of that, most of the world governments don’t have a 2nd amendment style law that enables firearms to be purchased and used by the average joe. And then you have to consider that America has a huge car culture that most countries do not, which is one of GTA’s defining gameplay components. Lastly, few countries have as robust a police force as America, which is a major part of GTA.

      Iowa.
Literally what the frick is even in Iowa, there's nothing to satirize. The East coast has enough history to carry it, the West coast is the center of American excess so there's an unlimited amount of satirize there, the South has some of the most obvious low hanging fruit in the country, and the Midwest has a million hick/hillbilly jokes that are interchangeable between each one.
Iowa is right in the sweet spot where it's literally nothing, there's nothing significant about it and it doesn't truly belong to the East, West, Midwest, South, or North. The most significant thing Iowa ever did was produce Slipknot and that's like a 6/10 accomplishment at best.

I live in Pennsylvania, western PA isn't the midwest. You could make an argument for Ohio because crossing the border from PA to OH is like flipping a switch, within 15 minutes it goes from forests and hills to flat fricking nothing and farms, but I don't consider Ohio the midwest either. It's more like New Jersey but with more cornfields.
Ohio is another nothing state that wouldn't fit into GTA but at least it has more cultural significance than Iowa exclusively because of zoomer/Gen A ohio gyatt skibidi fr fr meme culture.

he isn't right, people love to throw around the idea that we could get another GTA game in London, Mumbai, China, all this dumb shit, do you really think the developers haven't thought of that?

Parody America is simply the best setting for the pure wanton destruction and chaos of a GTA game, and the global community just understands parodies of American culture more than they would of say, British culture where you would have to be from there to "get" the joke in many cases

Miami, New York, and LA are all perfectly contained microcosms of this trash culture, full of crime and insanity, and it makes the most sense to place them there

Who knows where GTA7 will take place if we survive long enough to see it? maybe they'd extend the setting into multiple states

GTA isn't satire anymore, it's just unnecessarily bullying america. they're so brown and gay at this point that it just feels mean. like, as a white eurochud i can't even laugh at america's decline these days. it's too tragic what happened to your country. like, it used to be funny, but now? there's no humor to be had in picking on the moronic, obese, black special needs child in a wheelchair. especially knowing things are only going to get worse for him until he finally expires and the whole world celebrates. we really need to stop picking on america, even if they deserve it. it's needless cruelty.

Liberty City isn't just based on New York. It's a mix of various cities (New York City, Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston, Chicago and Baltimore). We've also seen Alderney City (based on Jersey City and Newark).

For San Andreas, we got Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco), and Las Venturas (Las Vegas).

Rockstar also gave us Carcer City (a Rust Belt city located in the United States heartland said to be neighboring Liberty City) in Manhunt and Cottonmouth in Manhunt 2, which is is based on large southern US cities, including New Orleans, Charleston, Atlanta and has various references to other GTA cities.

In Bully we got Bullworth (which is situated in New England).

The only city we haven't seen yet is Capital City, which is Washington DC.

The point is that Rockstar HAS been incorporating other cities besides LA, New York, and Miami in their games. It's just that you morons either forgot or weren't paying attention.

      >San Fierro (San Francisco)
Honestly we need to go back here. In fact, perhaps we WILL go back here in GTAVI since the game is set in Vice City (Miami).

Think about it. Right now there's a massive political rivalry IRL between Florida's governor Ron Desantis and California's governor Gavin Newsom, both of whom want to run for President (Gavin says he doesn't but he totally does).

GTAVI can have an expansion pack set in San Fierro and parody both Ron and Gavin. If they do, we need to see tons of homeless people shitting on the streets in San Fierro, with Trevor Phillips among them.

2000-2019 was the age of California

With the pandemic people realized how shitty and insufferable homosexuals there are. People saw people crowding the beaches on national news being admonished 'for killing grandma'.

Soon people began looking closely at Florida and realized it's not all Disney world and flat orange fields. The infrastructure is clean, you have great weather, animals are everywhere, beautiful beaches with clear water, booming jobs and skyscraper condos literally rising from the swamps. Most importantly, you actually have freedom.

2020-2040 will be the Floridian era. Everyone will want to be there- in fact most already do.

    >Mexico City
Boring and an over crowded spichole. You'd best make a game set in Cancun-Quintana Roo at that point.
    >Seoul
No one wants to play as a asiatic.
    >London
Even though they made a game set in London years ago, even before the 3D universe, modern London is just as bland as modern Miami.
    >Mumbai
I would play that day one just to see how many poos I can kill because I unironically hate Indians.

I'd rather play in a city based off of Cape Town and Joburg inspired map with the protag being a white Afrikaaner who has a strong hatred for the kaffirs and dreams that apartheid would make a come back.

I knew GTA 6 would be set in Vice City even around GTA 5 was released because it was the only city left to be set in the HD universe.

If GTA 7 happens, I just have a feeling that it may be in a Chicago inspired city, or a Houston-Galveston inspired city with a dash of Dallas-Fort Worth inspiration. I'm thinking the latter because both are of course sprawls and have a lot of shit to do even outside the city limits. Crazy fricking people, strange culture (swangas in H-Town) and Texas is vast.
