>Hey bro you should play Fates but only Conquest since it's the only one with actual gameplay
>Turns out my "dad", clearly evil king, wanted me so dead he sent me on a suicide mission, sent his murderous soldier to murder me if i somehow succeeded, gave me a weapon that not only sent me down an endless cliff, but also triggered an explosion that would've killed me if not for me mum sacrificing herself, and i learn the evil king murdered my actual dad and stole me from my blood family for nefarious purposes
>i join Nohr anyways
>expected to immediately start some sort of subversion plan and make any comment on this, maybe send some vitriolic hatred to him or form any sort of plan or something
>"i-i-i'll talk it out with him!!!! I wanna hear his side of the story!!"
Wish Hoshido didn't mean playing in retard mode, i feel like it wouldn't make any sense to join the dark family after these events happen, not counting whatever happens after the fact. Am i alone in this?
The story in this game is a huge flaw in the game that honestly ruins the whole experience, I remember there was one mission in conquest where I think you have to save the hoshido generals? But instead of taking them as pows they let them go because "we gotta fight later as warriors" which is fucking retarded because if they captured them and made hoshido surrender they could have prevented thousands of dead soldiers on both sides. Also that part where the water girl shows the mc the mirror of the true form of your dad but whoops it broke, should have showed it when all your family was present!
>Am i alone in this?
Yes, you're the only one who thinks fates' story was incorrigible garbage and that each and every single one of its characters was pants-on-head retarded. The rest of us are content with beating off to the mysterious dancer who was clearly a leftover from cut content.
>every single one of its characters
Hey let's be fair here. Takumi is mega giga based and is a single voice of reason and logic in a setting filled to the brim with pants-shitting morons.
I mean, how can one mess up such a premise? Choosing a side felt, for a moment, actually difficult, between my non-blood related family that treated you as one and raised you, and your blood family, which you were forcibly taken away from, and are greeted by your mom and brothers who missed you since the day you got kidnapped.
A compelling story with that introduction practically writes itself, one would have to actively ruin it on purpose to make it this bad
>the mysterious dancer who was clearly a leftover from cut content.
Does the game ever tell you who this is?
>Shows up
>Sings a song that only Azura should know
>Belly dances with water magic
>Causes Garon to lose it, he demands all dancers be executed
>Somehow dissapears without a trace
Who the fuck was she?
Keep in mind that the MC is a political hostage who was raised for 15 years (according to the artbook) to think Garon isn't just her actual dad but also a good person "deep down" because Xander and Camilla were so severely abused during their formative years by Garon after he turned into a zombie that they think him not trying to stab them himself means he's being a nice father. If you were kidnapped as a child by a guy and he were alternating between being the good cop and the bad cop and preventing you from communicating with anyone who's not a servant for more than a decade you'd be just as weird as Corrin. And many of the scenes where Garon is a cartoon villain happen when no other character is around.
Good point, actually. I still feel it could've been handled or implied far better
I'm replaying Birthright right now and the beginning before the choice feels rushed so I get why people don't think about the context, if Fates were a visual novel or a TV show or a novel I feel like we would have seen Corrin and the Nohr siblings for a lot longer and it would have made Corrin's hesitation in Conquest more understandable. But after suffering through the first 11 chapters in 3H several times to get several routes I vastly prefer how rushed the beginning feels in Fates because at the end of the day it's a video game and I play it for the gameplay, not just for the story.
>Fates
Lol I dropped Conquest halfway through and now I just read the smut
People don't play Conquest for the story. They play it for the harder maps and Camilla.
Wrong I play it for Xander.
>Xander
*accidentally kills Elise*
"Corrin, we must now fight to the death because Elise told us to try and get along with her dying breath but this is all somehow your fault."
Nah it was more like
>oh fuck I just killed my little sister and I think all my doubts about what I'm fighting for have reached a fever pitch, time to suicide by cop
Wasn't he even stated to be holding back?
His stats are lower than in the chapter in the opera so yes, he's letting himself get killed because he's suicidal. In his support with Nyx he also talks about how executing his other unnamed siblings for doing a bunch of assassination attempts against him and each other haunts him and he might as well have ptsd.
I don't care he's tall, blond, goth, has a big cock and daddy issues and several mental illnesses so he will always be my husbando.
Based. I don't care how much the fucking Japs try to force me to like the Hoshidans. I won't do it.
Nohr vs Hoshido discussions in 2016 were worse than Rhea vs Edelgard discussions. You had people saying Hoshido deserved to be invaded because they didn't give food to the Nohrians who, mind you, lived in an underground sewer that Ryoma didn't even know about until they infiltrated Nohr in BR.
The whole story is just the most retarded Nipwank. But even Japanese players liked the Nohrians better
I just wish they had the balls to make the Hoshidans your actual family. The double fakeout adoption shit is just fucking cowardly. They wouldn't even let Azura be your cousin, only the fish dragon maid get to be blood related. All because the devs decided that breaking an incest taboo in a videogame is just too far despite spending most of the game (assuming you romance one of them) teasing the idea.
Azura is your cousin by blood though.
Nah they came out later and said she wasn't actually blood related too.
Were they the official JP devs because I never heard about this
No it's someone posting a page of the artbook, lying about it saying the actual sisters by blood Mikoto and Arete are jusy bff and calling each other "sisters" was just a hyperbole, and nobody bothered trying to translate what was on the page.
Well in that case my complaint about the Hoshido family still applies, cousins are barely taboo anyway since they're legal almost everywhere outside the US. If they're not blood related the Hoshidans basically had no reason to care about you since you were kidnapped when you were like what, 2?
No, Water is actually still your cousin in the localization. It's just conveniently glossed over or never directly mentioned to the player.
Remember the Hoshidans never did anything wrong, they're literally the most peaceful people ever, never the aggressors, incapable of ever doing anything wrong
Except for Ryoma being a deranged yandere.
The siblings were raised by your blood related mother for longer than by their actual mother so of course they care. According to the artbook 15 years happened between the kidnapping and the start of the game, Corrin doesn't remember what happened until a traumatic event reminded her of the kidnapping so she was old enough to retain memories and be aware of her surrounding so she was way older than 2, and according to some supports Hinoka was 6 or 7 years old. Now iirc Sakura and Elise were born but were just babies so they're 15 or 16 years old. Hinoka should be 21/22 years old. I think the Hoshido siblings must have thought Corrin was just a half sibling because in the Japanese version the bald old guy says the dad would often go to brothels when they were younger so I'm sure everyone thought he cheated on his wife and married his mistress just because of Corrin.
>The siblings were raised by your blood related mother for longer than by their actual mother so of course they care.
About her sure, but they have no reason to care about you. Having an adopted sibling you never spent any time with is no different than a stranger.
I don't get why everyone hates Birthright. I enjoyed playing with the new unit classes and I never found the maps to be all that bad in comparison to some of the ones I hate on the Conquest side
They're too easy.
Oh that's what it is. I just cranked up the difficulty and imposed limitations on myself because I played Fates right after Awakening AKA Donnell and Tharja solo the map simulator
Even then, most of them being just "Rout the Enemy" tended to irritate other players.
