>If you get hit
bro you have a button that makes you invincible
brother you are going to have an aneurysm at the bed of chaos
what's everyone's issue with Bed of Chaos? i thought it was fine
mostly just people on their first playthrough who didn't know what to do. on every playthrough since my first, BoC has been a cake walk. though to be fair, it's still not a fun encounter, just something annoying to get out of the way
It can and will randomly knock you off the ledge
Bait thread. Remember, he's complaining about the first boss.
I love dark souls so much bros
He's slow and predictable, weak to firebombs and you can plunge attack a good 1/4 or more of his hp.
>using consumables
>cheesing with plunge attack
Do you honestly expect first-time players to come up with this stuff? And what if using firebombs isn't part of my build? Just because you cheated with a guide doesn't mean the average player will.
Heh
the game shows plunge attacks on tutorial island
The game literally tells you to plunge attack within 10 minutes. And as soon as you walk into that boss, guys shoot arrows at you from behind and theres a ladder. It's not that hard to figure out
Literally just turn around.
Why did boss arenas took a pummel in diversity after DaS1?
>narrow bridge in both Taurus Demon and Moonlight Butterfly forcing you to dodge
>plunging attacks in Asylum and Taurus Demon
>the stairs of Capra Demon
>each side of the bell tower having narrow paths that seemingly look for a good hiding place for the bell gargoyles but will actually burn you down
>using the pilars to separate Ornstein and Smough
>either dodge or use the pilars to block Gwyndolin's attacks
>making the Iron Golem fall backwards off the platform and die instantly
>Bed of Chaos' platforming (granted, it sucks but still unique)
>Ceaseless Discharge falling to its death
All of this VS
>big, circular and empty arenas with nothing but the boss in it
>field bosses who can't go very far from their spawning points
It's just from software ditching genuine love and passion in order to pander to "le epic difficulty" normies and streamers.
Dark souls was never hard because of bullshit fights that are constant quicktime events, it was a game about exploration, struggle and discovery. The difficulty lied in figuring out what you are supposed to do, but unlike games like zelda, the game was quick to punish you for mistakes - that includes stuff like being stuck in the depths and getting cursed. Nowadays, you would just click the bonfire and magically teleport to buy a stone - right in the hub, probably.
The fights that people got the most hyped up about were the 1v1 duel fights in plain arenas. False King, Flamelurker, Artorias, Manus, etc. I think FROM just saw the reception to those fights and decided to make more of them, because that's what people responded well too. But those fights work so well specifically as highlights, rather than the norm.
In ER and chalice dungeons specifically, I think side bosses are so frequently "fight some guy in a square room" because that's much easier to recycle than a puzzle/gimmick boss with a unique arena.
every game since DeS has had less and less "gimmick" fights and more "le honorable duel with big swordsman in an arena" fights. everyone like to suck artorias's cock but that fight is in no way as memorable to me as the panic of entering the capra demon fight. not that i consider the capra demon a better fight or even a good one, but it's a memorable experience
DS2 had all these things and more
>I didnt play Dark Souls 2 cause im a gay retard npc
Mmm yes lovely another dude in armor how exquisite yes yes indeed
really is like an automated bot script
because it's an extremely obvious criticism
>dragonrider
>the pursuer
>ruin sentinels
>lost sinner
>mytha baneful queen
>flexile sentry
>old iron king
>skeleton lords
>executioner's chariot
>royal rat vanguard
>the rotten
>giant lord
>ganksquad
>fume knight
>ivory king
DaS2 is my least favorite souls but it really shows how most people criticizing it have no fucking idea what they are talking about, holy shit.
bad bait
Yes, that is what your post ist, bad bait
Forgot 2 more
>najka
>dragonriders
Every single one of the bosses i mentioned have something unique about their arena, and its insane how many there are now that i look at it.
Uh, did you just defend Dark Souls 2? Don't you know that the hivemind hates that game and you can't list any redeeming qualities of it whatsoever?
almost as much as the guy who inevitably has to unconditionally gargle das2's balls every time it comes up
Still doesn't stop ds2 having interesting boss arenas that this faggy fanbase keeps wanting to ignore for some reason cause they're too busy gargling daddy miyazaki's cum and the youtube video didn't mention it so it didn't resonate in their npc brains. Oh but instead make way for moonlight butterfly! Did you know it forces you to dodge? Like every souls boss ever? Which means strafing back and forth and hitting the dodge button when it shoots lasers and then he's nice to rest his head down for you. woah!
>dude it's totally an interesting arena because you can fall off of it
terrible example, DaS2 has a couple good arena gimmicks but overall the worst boss variety with all the "giant swordsmen" bosses
>dude it's totally an interesting arena because you can fall off of it
Because DS1 was the only good game they ever made
>guess who didn't play DS2
it's one of my complaints also, everything's a fucking duel arena now, always a big square or a big circle with flat terrain, maybe a few pillars if you're lucky
>flat terrain
I fucking wish, one of those magma wyrm fights had a circular arena with a giant bump in the middle and uneven terrain throughout. What a horrible design. Yeah demon firesage's arena was worse but he's a piss easy boss so it's okay.
Saved pic.
>screenshotting your own post
because muh 1v1 epic dodge roll spam fest
Dark Souls had less unique boss fights than DeS, and more humanoids in armor enemies as well, so it started with Dark Souls.
I know DeS has more unique/gimmick bosses but DaS1 was the last to had those in a meaningful way.
basically says why I think DaS2 lacks in this bit.
>DaS1 was the last to had those in a meaningful way
why? Everything it did in 1 was done in 2 and then more.
>if you get hit
sounds like a you problem
I've played dark souls only a couple times but each time that thing fell directly off the side and I never even fought it.
dark souls is the most brain dead shit. slow telegraphed enemy attacks and an 'invincible' button. then later they went to fast constant enemy attacks but an even faster 'invincible' button. if you struggle with these games you'd probably have a nice day irl if you played ninja gaiden.
I made him fall off the brdige
You get the sweet back flip animation if you block with a shield and it doesn't even drain that much stamina. No excuses since you're not forced to dodge everything.
that animation when you tank a huge hit with a high-stability shield is so cool, I don't know why they stopped doing that
the backflip one? still exists in ER I'm pretty sure. I remember doing it quite a bit while fighting Radahn.
Yeah, I like animations with a lot of weight like that. Loved the Sekiro one where you get thrown back and stop yourself by holding your katana and stabbing it into the ground.
Dark Souls 2 had some interesting boss gimmicks BUT the enemies and arenas themselves were very samey, big dudes with big swords in flat square/circular arenas, most of the gimmicks are designed around optional external triggers. That's the difference with DS1 bosses having environmental variety.
>Pursuer: ballistas
>Dragonrider: optional trigger to raise platforms and make arena bigger to avoid falling
>Flexile: water level rising which makes you move slower, vulnerable to lighting
>Lost Sinner: optional trigger, turning on fires to light the area so you can use lock-on
>Mytha: optionall trigger to get rid of poison
>Smelter Demon: water pots you can use to reduce fire damage
>Covetous: hollow prisoners hanging from the ceiling, use arrows to make them fall and distract the boss
>Freja: you can use your torch against its mini spiders
>Vendrick: optional trigger, collect 5 giant souls to reduce his defense
>Fume Knight: find Smelter Wedges to destroy the Ashen Idols, or they'll heal him throughout the fight
>Aava: optional trigger, find the Eye of Priestess to see her when invisible
>Ivorv King: optional trigger, find the Loyce Knights to tip fight to your advantage
>Sir Alonne: will commit seppuku if you don't take damage
As you can see, most of these gimmicks are *additions* slapped onto otherwise generic boss fights and arenas, rather than their core designs being what's unique.
>the enemies and arenas themselves were very samey, big dudes with big swords in flat square/circular arenas
Except Shrine of Amana was nothing like that and it exposed you gays being bitches with all the whining it gets. Most of the levels aren't like that at all. Big dudes with big swords means absolutley fucking nothing and is so generic and bland you could say it for every game. It's like DS2 gets critiqued under a negative curve from the start.
>most of these gimmicks are *additions*
That's a good thing and never stopped ds1's arena's being "diverse" either. It allows experimentation and strategies across different builds than the solution just being one strategy. A mage can use a cast light spell against lost sinner for instance and doesn't need to light the arena beforehand if he wants to lock on. I think using the ladder to fight the taourus demon is an "addition" by any definition. Like you don't have to use it.
>>most of these gimmicks are *additions*
>That's a good thing
no because it doesn't actually lead to a better encounter, it is usually just "we took a normal fight and made the arena even worse, but then added a way for you to opt out into another generic arena". the flexile sentry idea is ok (though it fills way too slow and probably wont be a factor unless you're a scrub) and the dragon rider one would be good if you couldn't make the arena bigger and it was always a tight fight. the lost sinner and mytha arena gimmicks are especially dogshit
>it doesn't actually lead to a better encounter,
yes it does
Some of those were cool, but some were just kind of impossible/insanely frustrating fights if you skipped the prep. Like fighting Mytha in the poison, Fume with all the wedges or Ivory King without any knights. You basically have to do that shit, or the fight is awful.
>Freja: you can use your torch against its mini spiders
>mini
g'day mate
>good boss wasted on a dogshit arena
Why?
I was actually impressed with some of the unique bosses in Elden Ring, like the funny snake man and the fire giant (which Ganker hated for some reason).
>boss can accidentally kill himself by falling off
>NOOOOO IT'S TOO HARD
seriously dude
He optional. You don’t have to beat Taurus.
try plunging attack
I have never, even once, fought Taurus Demon in his boss version. Never, neither pirated, neither on Xbox version, nor Steam
Why the hell would I fight a boss that can be killed just with firebombs at a safe space
>needing to cheese a boss so easy that he's a regular fucking enemy by the game's halfway point
Why would I even fight it when cheesing him is so easy and in your face
>first time playing Dark Souls, back in the day
>get my ass handled by Asylum Demon
>make another character and use black firebombs as gift against him to beat him
>proceed in the game
>another boss appear, Taurus Demon
>"guess I will just do the same"
>climb the stairs, trow bombs at him, he jumps up, I climb down, he jumps down, repeat. Killed on the first try
I literally, literally never fought him. There's no need to
unead burg/undead parish is peak video games
nothing else comes close
I have quite literally never fallen to my death against taurus and I've played DaS1 like 5 times. How bad do you even have to be for that to happen?
