It's a 9/10. The only problem is that it needed a proper endgame area, you spend all of it going over the same areas but with some sort of big trabble. A proper final boss enemy would be good too.

We'll have to see. I kinda liked Weird West, but it was clear that he was not yet accustomed to a shoe string indie budget.

        >Weird West
I get its supposed to be an im sim but for me I dont really play isometrics any more and the real im sims I love are 3d games, prey, dishonored, even bioshock to some degree.

there are several indie ones in development, but shit like is costly so I dont have high expectations for those

That is the thing it takes a decent team to make a game like prey, or a decent im sim because 1 person as a creative lead can pigeon hole the options and systems and it needs multiple peoples perspective to get the mad systems and options that make im sims so great.

Unrelated genre but if you ever watched the MGS2 making of DVD that came with OG MGS2, kojima gave his team notebooks to write shit in with ideas they though of and because of that a lot of the cool tech and mechs that are in MGS2 come from team members ideas.
Im sims need that type of team engagement.
So yeah, that costs money and unfortunately im sims dont really sell huge, mainly becuase people like this homosexual

dunno flight simulator 2024 is out this year

dont understand what an im sim is.
Shit like deathloop just looks like an FPS to morons like that.

Such a shame man, im sims are nearly dead.

On a related note though, cyberpunk, at least from the RPG mechs and the level design plays like an im sim in actual gameplay.
the level designer is fricking great. Every area has multiple ways to deal with it, entry points etc, so I am at least hoping next cyberpunk game with double down on that.

      >Worse issue is this is probably the last real immersive sim we are ever gonna see.
It's not the last one, but it's the last AAA one we'll see for a while, given the news that the next Deus Ex game has been unfortunately strangled.

There are finally Im-Sim projects starting to brew in the indie scene at least.

Frankly, there are only two possible (and extremely unlikely) was im-sims could make yet another comeback.
      1) Colantonio's next project somehow ends up being a giant hit
      2) Warhorse's KCD2 turns things around for Embracer, because they are the only AAA publisher who would be in theory willing to fund an Im-Sim development at this moment.

Again, neither of these are very likely. The much more likely scenario is that we will slowly see more im-sims appearing from the hands of more ambitious indie developers.
I don't know what say, Zan is up to right now, but given his quest and level design in Bloodrite, I can see him going straight for the im-sim route in his next game. David did, or at least, that was the plan behind Gloomworld, though I have frick all clue how that is going. The citadel guy is apparently planning to straddle the line between im-sim and tacticool shooter with Citadel 2. Projects like Lunacid and Monomyth are also exploring the same roots that gave birth to im-sim genre. Then there is of course that weird slav-jank cyberpunk im-sim that got a demo recently, but that game was obviously not going to get off the ground.

I played KCD to death. I think kcd2 will just be a more polished + grander kcd. And I really didn't think of them as immersive sims.

          Anonymous

          >And I really didn't think of them as immersive sims.
That was not entirely my point. I don't call KCD an im-sim either, though it is very close to being one.
My point is that KCD is a bold and odd RPG project, the sort of thing that no other publisher in the world would be willing to fund at this scale. Embracer, for all it's faults, has balls, and is willing to take risks like that. And they do own the Deus Ex IP, among other things.

The success/failure of KCD2 is vital here for 2 reasons: 1 it's just going to have major impact on Embracer's currently utterly terrble cashflow, and 2 will validate, or finally invalidate, the decision of Embracer to invest in more risky and ambitious projects. KCD2 is not an im-sim, but both by being a game very close to im-sims, and by simply being a test-bed for risky investments for Koch/Pleion in particualr, it's eventual result is pretty integral in determining the odds of a real im-sim being made by the same publisher, even possibly by the same developer.
After all, it's pretty fricking obvious that to people like Vávra and Bocan, im-sim is the ultimate destination genre, their design philsophy is very much like that of Colantonio, it's I think inevitable they will eventually try their hands in making one. Provided that Warhorse does not implode, and that is why I mentioned this whole affair.

Prey is a dogshit imsim, all it has going for it is the dungeon crawling, the maps are nice. But imsim is more than just non-linear maps. Where are the cool side stories? Interesting logs with deep lore? Stealth that isn't absolute dogshit? Even the special abilities are shit here, even compared to something simple like Bioshock they're barebones.

forcing myself into places i shouldn't be using the cum gun, using a toy/ nerf crossbow, etc.

            Anonymous

Pro-tip: Anyone who calls Prey a "bad im-sim" actually does not like im-sims, it's just people who can't get into the genre (majority of people like that) but they don't want to admit they have a problem with the whole concept, and will rather pretend that "yeah, they are totally fans, veterans even, of the im-sim genre, it's just Prey they dislike".
Makes them look less stupid. At least in their minds. One of the things that is actually killing IMsim genre even more than their fundamental accessibility issue, is the prestige of the genre. Because they have grew reputation to be something of a "king of videogame genres", peak form, definition of smart and deep game design.

And admitting that you can't get into them immediately carries the implication that you are a moron, a casual.
So now, people can't admit they can't get into Im-sims. Instead, they have to either 1) deny EXISTENCE OF THE GENRE ALL TOGETHER (see the obsessive fear of the term itself), or 2) vastly exaggerate issues of any new im-sim and pretend their issue is with that game specifically, rather than with their inability to appreciate the genre as a whole.

This is the nature of the im-sim curse, really. The fact that most people don't enjoy it, but most people also can't admit that they don't enjoy it, is killing these games more than anything else.

dropped it a few hours in due to level design and felt like a lot of backtracking/wondering through same places, wasn't really a fan. i know that's just a me thing and i wish it connected with me like it did with apparently everyone else, glad u guys can enjoy it

watched the ending on youtube for shits and giggles and that's a pretty sweet twist. sounds like it was a wild ride

I unironically love when a game makes me backtrack in such a way that I am not bored and it keeps me engaged, which Prey did. Shit had me on the edge, too bad there's no real replayability.

I think that is the issue in im-sims, despite them not being a linear adventure once you experience it back to back there's not much more to do on a second playthrough andgoing back and forth again becomes a chore. Certainly it takes less work to do a linear experience and you end up with a similiar average playtime.

for me, i think i can force myself to play em again if i deliberately play differently.

        like prey 2017:
pt 1 is full typhon abilities. this affects the story and ending.
pt 2 is full human nerd-engineer Morgan Yu. different ending.

        similarly, Dishonored 1:
High Chaos, kill everyone + its world play differently Relative to a Low Chaos, "spare" people run.

      >had the ending accidentally spoiled to me but I'm still playing through it because the game is fun.
Yeah, it's very easy to spoil the ending for yourself. Either by an butthole spoiling it on-line, or by certain actions in the game. I avoided all on-line spoilers and still had the endings spoiled by just climing into the escape pod and leaving the station too early, which is very easy to do, you can do it as soon as you enter the arboretum.

Wow does that ending really spoil everything? That's hilarious.

          >Wow does that ending really spoil everything?
I does not spoil everything, but it reveals enough for your to figure out the nature of the twist, the fact that it's all a simulation. The reasons why, the motivation of the players, is of course, not spoiled, but the fact that it's not real is very much implied extremely strongly if you do that.

It's probably the game's most awkward moment. They really didn't want to ban you from figuring out how to get to the functioning escape pod (because that would go against the nature of an im-sim), but at the same time they could not avoid creating that spoiler in case you try this. I think it would be smarter to ban you from using that escape pod entirely, but... ah well. The game is imperfect in many ways.
          Still love it though.
