There are two until you get to Chapter 4, one of them is evil and pretty likely to pick fight with two best tanks in the game you pick up if you go to the inn your father told you to visit, the other won't even talk to women (which may not be obvious if you are a female character or put Imoen in the party leader slot) and is in a somewhat brutal area, lying on the very edge of the map far away from where you need to be, wanting you to go into a dangerous cave and steal shit from there or she leaves.
The entire reason Imoen was created because the developers realized there are no good-aligned thieves at the start of the game, despite thieves being absolutely crucial to every party.

Originally she wasn't part of the plot at all, and her voiceover lines were recorded for a female extra. She was only added when playtesters complained that the early chapters of the game were too difficult to complete if the PC didn't recruit unstable nutjob Montaron into the party (this is the reason she NEVER interacts with other NPCs, incidentally — there was no time to record additional dialog).

She was originally supposed to die in Spellhold during BG2 too, but the developers changed their minds upon seeing fan poll results, leading to the aforementioned RetCon.

That would be okay in BG1, but in BG2 you get a lot of XP and items from the companion quests. The game will have less content and also be more difficult with a custom party.

Custom companions are shit outside the tabletop game where you create your own story. If I'm gonna experiment an already established story that can't be changed, then also give me pre-established companion with their own pre-established dialogues, personalities and quests to make the game feel alive, and not feel like I'm there having an adventure with other 5 lifeless mimics. This is why I have never bothered playing Icewind dale.

He's referring to a very old (and now gone) Imoen romance mod that most people only know about due to a screenshot that still does the rounds here and elsewhere, where you could violently beat and rape Imoen, among other things. It got a poor reception and hasn't been around for well over a decade at this point, if not longer, and the actual Imoen romance mod is just you helping her get over her trauma and healing her through the power of love. The homosexuals writing it copped out by having her say she'll never have children, though.

Viconia is right. There is no genetic bond so how can it be incest? You can be a completely different race from Imoen, breeding healthy and stable children with her should prove no issue whatsoever.

They still come from the same father in the end. Also they lived with each other throughout their childhood in Candlekeep as friends. So much so they already saw each other as siblings. Even if we were to entertain the idea that they aren't related as Viconia suggests. They already see each other as relatives. I doubt they would be comfortable either way.

I don't play the tabletop or read the books, my knowledge of D&D is limited to what's presented in the videogames. But it seems to me that the people in this setting are not restricted to a medieval understanding of the universe. They have wizards who study the deepest mysteries, clerics who speak directly with their deities, and interdimensional travellers from the planes who mix with the general population. They could learn about genetics from these sources.

You don't need advanced machinery to hit upon a basic theory of genetics. In The Republic, Plato puts forward his plan for human breeding, the kind of plan we would now call eugenicist. He points out that farmers breed their cattle selectively to promote desirable characteristics, then by way of analogy, he applies the that principle to human breeding, and says it ought to be done the same way. So even this ancient Greek paedophile was able to grasp the fundamentals of genes.

Adolf's problem was that he felt the need to be very public and share all his thoughts with the world in his vainglorious speeches and his big confessional book which may as well have been called "Look At Me Everyone: I'm The Bad Guy." What we should learn from Hitler is that it's better to be quiet about things. Practice, but don't preach.

I just played BG1 for the first time. He really liked calling me a queer fellow.

is there a way to stop her from calling me a queer constantly?

Have you considered being less queer? You already carry the stigma of being a Bhaalspawn, why make life even harder for yourself by joining a second minority group? Imoen is just letting you know that your queer tendencies have not gone unnoticed by her, and that others are likely to notice them too.

Jaheira just died in the assault at the Moontower from two crit smites in a row for over 80+ damage.
Is it even worth it reloading my old save to bring her back or should I truck on? My last save was before fighting the necromancer inside the shadowfell.

Jaheira has a full quest line to unlock another party member and also has unique dialogue for literally every encounter/character/quest in act 3 so her not being in that means you miss out on a lot of good stuff. Especially if you are a fan of the first 2 games.

        FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
Why did that b***h have to act like a lemming and get herself killed. Why am I completely incapable of reviving NPCs? Frick I even noticed the game took away the scroll of true resurrection you get from Gale. It's gone and I never used it.

Before the assault, you have a choice between taking Jaheria in your party or letting her lead the charge through the front door. After she had died a few times, I managed to keep her alive by taking her in my party and sneaking in around the side through the kitchen door. When combat starts, the NPC allies will fight the mob at the front and you can fight the group on the central stairway, where you have a better chance of success and can set up a perimeter defence. If the NPC allies on the door get wiped out, as they most likely will, you will be well-placed to stand off against the remaining guards when they come after you.

That's how I did it anyway. And as the other anon says, it is worth keeping her alive.

Yeah, I'm starting over from my old file.
Such a pain, too. The fight with the necromancer was fun because the gigahomie zombies just pushed the mc, shadowheart and gale off the stage and I had to have Minthara solo the entire thing, and then had a nat 20 roll to convince shadowheart not to kill the aasimar because that shit was DC 30 and I have no ranks on persuasion. Guess I'll be getting dark justiciar shadowheart now. Hopefully the reward will be better than the shitty spear the aasimar gave me.

I love original BG so much. Starting a new playthrough. What class should I play?

I just beat the lycanthrope island in BG1. Was a bit tough, had to go through my potion stash for it, which I rarely ever used before. All party is level 6 to 7.
Am I ready for Durlag's Tower? I cleaned up the outside area long ago but didn't step inside since even enemies outside were brutal.

      >Am I ready for Durlag's Tower?

Probably. Durlag's Tower is a slog no matter when you go. It's full of traps and other annoyances. I admit I've never had the patience to complete it.

I just did that a few weeks ago. Level 7 should be fine. The biggest problem is the traps and gotcha moments. It is much nicer in terms of level design than the base game areas, though. Some of the puzzles were neat.

I remember Durlag's Tower being really hard near the end with the giant room
and the encounter AFTER that with the men and the demon was so fricked up it took me a ton of tries to win
but winning the chess game by launching a fireball at the start was really fricking funny

That's what I did. No idea why the frick they'd put something like this in an RTWP game with moronic AI and expect people to play normally by the rules.

I got really pissed off when I realized I couldn't use sword of balduran because my fighters were all duals.
I beat the guy finally by buffing Imoen with the silver dagger and casting hold.

Siege of Dragonspear is fine so far, but the gameplay tries too hard to be IWD instead of BG. I'd rather use my IWD1 team to go through it instead of the premades the game gives you.

I have had the EE for years and I've only played the first hour of SoD. I don't hate it, I just find it uncomfortable. The writing is not consistent with the style of the originals. That's a minor annoyance when you use the new companions in BG1 & 2, but SoD is written entirely in the Beamdog manner and that makes it inauthentic to me. You also notice that David Warner's voice is lot older and thinner, which disrupts my engagement, similar to David Earl Jones's reprisal of Vader in Rogue One.

Do I need to play through BG1, or can I skip to BG2? I know I'm missing out on shit if I do, but am I fricking myself hard, or only partially?

      Anonymous

If you go through BG1 and its expansion first, you can import your character and you'll have more XP at the beginning of BG2. You also get to carry over a couple of items, like Sarevok's sword, which can be obtained from a djinn in the first dungeon. Neither of these perks are essential, and you're not even close to fricking yourself.

I will make a save in front of every boss encounter.

same but I wish I didn't have to
BG1 tore my ass open from start to finish
maybe I shouldn't have gone pure Thief with my character, using Imoen, the two nutjobs you first recruit, and the married couple who tried to kill each other 3 separate times throughout the adventure causing restarts

It's annoying whenever you have to use Chaos Commands since there's no AoE version of the spell. You have to apply it to each person individually before you fight those Illithids. And then a rest before you fight the next group, so you can apply it all over again.

Whatever class you make, just keep rerolling to min/max your attributes in character creation and then you can't possibly go wrong. It's cheating, sort of, but every single person does it.

Is there any lore reason for why humans have to dual class while everyone else does multi-class?
    Seems real arbitrary to me.

It is. Nothing more than trying something different and making rules to justify it.

      Maybe it's lifespan related.

humans are the shortest lived of every D&D race so they often say that humans learn *extremely* quickly compared to the longer lived races because of it, so they can dual class

      Anonymous

roleplay, humans can be any class and subclass, demihumans can multiclass but are restricted on their choices. Humans are highly adaptable which is their best trait, the demihumans have classes that reflect their race traits. Halflings are excellent thieves but lack magical talent for instance
