There is nothing high IQ about paradox games. They have the illusion of being high IQ but are actually pretty basic. Nearly every game is: make doom stack and then paint the world a color.

for me, exapunks was a bit of a disappointment in that things just felt kind of shallow. The "systems" you infiltrate are never really independent working systems of their own, they're just kind of prop pieces. There's not really any kind of exploration or discovery of the computer systems either, you just get handed directions that say "go here, do thing"

Because like the moron said, it's a memorizarion game, in the beginning you need to do everything perfectly to win, you're not actually thinking. This is why Bobby Fischer went insane and hated Chess. He because the top player ever and realized the game is actually unplayable. So he created the Fischer variant which randomizes which prices are where so players have to think.

This, games with deep mechanics and/or good physics are usually quite stimulating. I recently played kingdom come deliverance and there is a quest where you collect a debt from one of your father's customers. When you talk to the guy he's a complete bastard and it ends up in a fist fight if you keep pushing the issue. Because i was new to the game i couldn't beat him so instead i thought what would happen if i aggravated him and lured him to my father's forge. To my suprise my father stepped in and absolutely levelled the guy. I was pretty satisfied with my idea and the fact the developers themselves thought of this and made it possible in the game. (None of the other npcs got involved so it was like the game was aware of family ties on some level).

I'm 130+(tested as a kid, not online meme shit) and I can't get enough of spaceship building games like SotS and Starsector and roguelites that require careful strategy. More than anything I play a pretty extreme variety of games, including casual JRPGs and fighting games and whatever else seems cool.
I actually fricking hate puzzle games because they either rely on "how similar is your brain to the game designer" hint-based horseshit or they're proper logic games(Zachtronics etc) that make me feel like I'm back at my job.

I may be a scrub b***h at Factorio but now I want to see how this RNG changes with factories of various qualities and the plate production RNG itself. There has to be a way to filter better quality parts out of the system and into their own as well as a means to recycle parts that weren't of higher quality to use your excess to fish for better tiers.

Always wondered how I'd condense at the space stage but it seems like a viable way.

The point is that space off-planet is an actually valid design restraint and quality is a method with which to ease that restraint if you build your on-planet factories to account for it

                Anonymous

Right but you're not going to put QUALITY modules on your limited-space off-planet machines. You're going to build QUALITY first, then ship those to the next planet/space whatever, and place production/efficiency/speed whatever in your already pre-qualitied machines. Maybe if theres room, produce more quality up there in a separate small loop with your quality buffed machines.

            Anonymous

this just strikes me as more fricking uranium processing bullshit where you have to overbuild in order to make a system with the appropriate slack to handle the neverending suboptimal parts that can/will clog your lines up while you wait for enough of the high-tier shit you need to proceed to the next step (enrichment) except worse because they're bringing it to basically every stage and aspect of building

maybe it won't feel as bad when it's something you're constantly dealing with but it's definitely not something i predict myself enabling on more than one playthrough tbh, unless they add some really cool machines/logic/whatever to make it easier. like if rigging up circuitry & a special additional input (like lubricant or whatever) to a recipe that didn't need it previously i'd probably be fine with that since it'd at least give me more reasons to expand other areas of production i'd usually neglect to varying degrees in favor of other tech

It's exactly kovarex, theres nothing intellectual about looping your product until the thing you want pops out.

I have played nearly every version and I think the most recently released one was the best one. It has a few QoL features that make the game slightly less tedious and I don't mind getting to freely move around. There is some charm to the original version but I think you'll do better with the newest one.

Its funny that Myst is considered a high IQ game now because it used to be considered the popular dumbed down version of the genre at release.

it's not high IQ. It's just god awful UI that obscures all the actual mechanics.

It's pure engineer brain design. Mechanics made needlessly unintuitive because 'lol just memorize this 500 page document for every niche case. Tool tips are overrated. Just memorize every single acronym by already knowing what it stands for.'

It could be so much better. It languishes from poor useability but instead it updates on 'changed one romanian division to have 10 more italian anti-tank rifles. thanks to user X for the advise'
