His greatest gift to gamers was making player counts public. Devs cannot gaslight their playerbase into thinking their games aren't dying or doing much better than they are. Unfortunely people will still gaslight themselves by saying idiotic things like "more ppl are on console / official client".
The fact that baldurs gate 3 is absolutely mogging a bethesda release when it was realesed a month before is just hilarious and only possible thanks to this man.
actually, his greatest gift to me was making the games run on arch linux, chud
Why do zoomers care so much about player count stats?
The most important thing for live services games at least, is popularity. No one wants to waste time grinding away in a game thats dying.
But why does it matter as long as you can find people to play with? And the 2 games you mentioned in the OP are single player games.
>But why does it matter as long as you can find people to play with
Being able to see if people are actively losing interest can help you save yourself the time of wanting to invest your time to begin with. Having player counts over time shows you whether the game is dying or at least stable
then why did op only mention single player games in his post
can you get me in touch with bethesda marketing? I'd a love a job

is it even possible to have an actual discussion on Ganker anymore or is 90% of the website just people from reddit who want Ganker to be their shitposting toilet?
2 bethesdabucks™ have been deposited in your zenimax® account
epic, can't wait to post this hilarious screencap on /r/Ganker
Hey, buddy, I think you got the wrong board. /vg/ is two blocks down.
As someone who heavily invested time into Battlebit Remastered, I envy your naivete.
>why do young people care about popularity
Do you not remember being in highschool/college?
i dont remember refusing to play games that weren't popular enough
maybe you were a loser?
oh my bad i forgot that Ganker was flooded by normalfag tourists
For singleplayer games it has never mattered. For mp games, the question used to be whether the game was active (active enough to find enjoyable matches).
Popularity only really matters for mmos. Team based, co-op, and 1v1 games are all fine with smaller communities.
>gimme a hug, man
If your game has a matchmaking system and you get put against the same 5 people only to stomp or get stomped over and over then its a problem. Especially at a "professional" level. If its a solo game then its alright.
They want microtransaction support. Dead games don't get new "content".
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO THINK
No Anon you don't get it. My Product™ is my life, I need it to win against Other Product™
Because zoomers are retards, and tiny brains are easily swayed by tribalistic behavior.
because people no more play the games they like, they play the games with high player count
OP just spelled it out for you. People have to face the music
What does that mean?
It's called an idiom zoomer
No, I mean why do you care about the playercount of single player games?
Other than the game being shit and it's funny, not much. You should only care about it if you made the game or shilled for it
>be told game is being sold well
>6 million bajillion are playing right now
>oh boy I want to be playing this latest game EVERYONE is playing
>this has to be a good game
Except everyone else isn't playing the game and you're sitting there with money parted so the shills did their job, playing a game that's shit, waiting for it to get good except it never does.
but I can just try the game for an hour and refund if it's not fun, regardless of what the playercount is
Why would you buy a game just because it sold well? Do zoomers really?
I'm not a zoomer, but I like things being transparent instead of letting companies bullshit us
If you let playercount stats influence your decision to buy a single-player game then you deserve to get scammed
I never look at the playercount when buying a game
normalfags don't have feelings of their own, they just latch on to whatever is popular
I can understand multiplayer games, dead game no players to play against.
But solo is pure virtue signaling, yeah.
How about reading what OP said you stupid cocksucking moron?
More people playing a game I like means more money to the devs so they can make more games I like.
And for multiplayer games it should be obvious that more players = better no matter what.
>Multiplayer game : Anything below 500 players and you will be matching up with the same people. Less than 100 on the weekends and its just sad.
>Singleplayer game : Lol who the cares
Cope snoy. Starfield has 6 million players and counting.
>6 million
So less than 20% of their userbase
6 million? There's no way that number could possibly be achieved.
6 million, in just 2 weeks on 2 machines?
to stop a gayben
Hopefully it would have been worth the weight
I'm honestly surprised valve hasn't been strongarmed into allowing devs to hide playercount info.
Now if only he could get games on Steam to show their sales. Though then it'd be depressing to see the sales of indie games. Maybe make it if you sell over a million, then your sales numbers becomes public.
https://store.steampowered.com/charts/topselling/US
its not numbers, but relative, updated regularly, its still very useful/interesting.
At the very least you can extrapolate sales via review numbers. It isn't perfect, but it is more than what other platforms provide.
i've been eyeballing this to be 5-10%. whats your take?
>His greatest gift to gamers was making player counts public
I wish they'd show how many players bought a game and at what price, plus some MTX details
But yes, player counts are nice. Interesting statistic to dice around. I wish the other platforms did likewise
Hey Gabe could you please ship the steam deck to my third world country please!
no
>baldurs gate 3 is absolutely mogging a bethesda
I find it hillarious that a game that's been in early access for so long has better reviews than Starfields official release.
posting in a bait thread
>Unfortunely people will still gaslight themselves by saying idiotic things like "more ppl are on console / official client".
But it's right. Who the fuck is going to launch two programs to play one game?
>gay makes up bullshit to disqualify arguments that prove him wrong
explain??
>believing in steam player numbers
I bet you believe the number of twitch viewers too. Easiest thing in the world to manipulate.
The fact that BG3 hasn't even outsold Diablo 4 says all you need to know about player counts. Expect more publishers to buy bots in the future.
Mindbroken.
>W-we are doing 20M Elden Ring/Hogwarts n-numbers I swear!
>Actual sales: 5M, 3M of them is from 3 year early access
LOL. Seems like a total waste of money despite huge shilling from every streamer and gaming outlet.
I still don't get why some people are allergic to stats, be it revenue or online numbers.
>no you can't say that gamename isn't going to live another year, how do you know it's not gonna get 5000% boost in the next month??
thank you Lord Gabe garden gnomeell for leading the lost sheep to where they need to be
Bethesdrones fear Gabe and his verifiable numbers and statistics
c-chink bots! i-its NOT REAL OK?
Sorry Todd has class and wouldn't stop to paying chink farms to log into his game all day.
Who made his game for him anon?
Please Mr Gaben just force your hundreds of employees to make games and release updates that aren't just skins or balance changes.
Gabe is not a good person. Australia had to sue Valve several times for ignoring basic consumer rights.
lil bro thinks gabe is his friend because of le meme
