When did devs decide 30 was the sweetspot and not 40/45/48?

      Anonymous

it’s the bare minimum and lazy c**t devs are too incompetent to even get that right, most games on consoles run at 20 to 25 fps

      Anonymous

40/45/48 aren't divisible by 60hz displays. On my 144hz i use to lock games to 48 and it was really nice.

a lot of TVs nowadays are actually 120hz, and PS5 has a 40fps performance mode option for some games

      Anonymous

Because doubling every frame is easier to program for than doubling every second frame, even going as far back as NES.

That and I imagine they never test it at 45 and just imagine that it'd feel judder-y, even though it doesn't.

Sony has a 40fps mode now

Divisible by 60. If u set a locked 60hz display to display 40fps u will get uneven frame pacing

      Anonymous

40 is definitely the sweet spot if you have a 120hz display and want grafix.

A lot of PS5 games have it. Feels much better than 30 somehow.

        Because it's a 33% improvement.

    [...]

So that frames have equal duration.
If you ever watch a theatrical film on your home TV, it plays at 60hz, but most film is at 24hz.
Thus you generally end up with 18 stills displaying for 2 frames each (covering 36 frames), and the other 8 display for 3 frames (the other 24).
I find this most noticable in credit rolls where the names do not move upward at a constant rate, but instead jitter.

I do like this, except motion blur and it's 60 instead of 30 of course, because I can usually run new games in more than 100 FPS, it's just that, firstly, I don't want my PC to be very loud and hot, and secondly, a stable framerate is always a plus.

Even though 60 looks like garbage to me to be honest, but as long as it's not a competitive online game... Ehhh...

My biggest problem with the morons at DF is how they change their standards based on whether they like a game. Like when they went a bit easy on Starfield because le Todd Godd but took a big shit on Jedi Survivor even though Starfield ran worse at launch.

      Anonymous

I still remember when the whole DF crew got butt mad when some random black youtube channel called them out on their favortism in the Gears 5 review. Some nobody really got under their skin just for pointing out they had no standards.

they named it the worst pc port of 2023 when i know of at least two games that ran worse on PC when they launched, especially Starfield, i know it because i played it on release

They named it the worst PC port in 23 so they could shill the playstation version as their contract with sony ordered them to
This isnt rocket science, it was so obvious theybwere reading off a provided script during that analysis

              Anonymous

No it's a huge problem that was never and never will be addressed because the game was abandoned in february 2023. People speculate it's because asset load is not optimized and so when you get near doors you trigger loading point and the engine drops the entire next room to be loaded at once. Consoles have it slightly better because they share memory for CPU and GPU but even there are certain rooms that stutter when you are going through the loading triggers.

this guy and his buddies are morons who don't seem to grasp how all gameplay logic loops are going to create a stutter of some kind (MUH FRAME PACING!!!!!!!!), it's just a matter of to what degree.

your poor frame pacing is caused by an indian coder who wrote the pathfinding logic which does a massive search once every frame or some shit

If you playing something at 60fps, then it doesn't require precision and 60fps with vsync is far better than 60fps tearing.
