>no Persona 5
>no Xenoblade 2
>no Pokemon games
Cringe
all those games are shitted on here
Maybe Persona 5 and FFVII; but definitely not the rest of those games.
P4 is easily the most overrated of the 3 games here. There is genuinely nothing redeeming about that game asides from the music. At least you can argue that 3 and 5 either had /some/ decently written characters and a decent plot. 4 has none of that.
Persona 4 is the sheer definition of, "I played this when I was 14, remember absolutely nothing about it; but think its the best game in the series"
cope, 3 is the edgelords choice.
OP is right
>decently written characters
the characters coming from broken homes doesn't make them written well.
>Persona 4 is the sheer definition of, "I played this when I was 14, remember absolutely nothing about it; but think its the best game in the series"
But I played Persona 4 when it came out on PC and still think it's the best.
What? FFVII is still beloved here just like OoT or Deus Ex some shitposters don't change that fact.
Lain wouldn't wear that shirt
You don't know that
Replace P3 with P5 and Trails with Chrono Black person and you've got something.
To be fair to shitkemon, for as trash as it is, even the fans don't pretend it's anything but shit at this point.
>racism
cringe. Cracker.
How the frick are they overrated? Ganker shits on them practically daily.
XB2 is great for what it is.
No one here likes persona 5, unless you are a mulatto underage zoomer
Most people here hate xenoblade 2
No one even plays pokemon, they just jack off to the characters
Persona 5
Final Fantasy VII
Persona 4
T. Someone whose played every single game known to mankind
You haven't played Jackie Chan
It's funny Ganker has always said these other series are superior to FF (the good ones), and it turns out none of them were. Persona has some cool style but it's not as complete as the best ffs are that have actual good narratives.
Persona 3 is actually good. You probably just played the portable version.
Frick off Persona 4 is also actually good. Only shit Persona game is 5 and maybe the spin-offs.
>Persona 3 is actually good
what part of it is good? the combat and dungeons suck, the story is awful, and the girls are trash
not him but the combat requires actual strategy unlike 4/5, tartarus isn't very interesting butthe dungeons in 4/5 aren't good either. I think it's up to preference whether you enjoy 4 or 3's story more but 5's story is complete dogshit that gets worse the more you play it
>girls are trash
don't care
They're all shit only 2 is good
>the story is awful
It's actually genuinely good and I actually cried at the end. P5 is actually the only Persona that hasn't made me cry.
Persona 3 has the best soundtrack in NuSona. P5 is trash, and I say that as a former jazz saxophonist. P4 is just okay.
Dungeons could be better in P3, would make a badass roguelike game.
Combat is great. Actually difficult.
S. Links in this are underrated. The characters don't suck your dick like in p4 or 5 (at least in P4 it's funny when they suck your dick because Yu is supposed to be like a gigachad thunderwiener character).
P3's story is great, and has an actual message. It's not "le memento Mori look i saw the intro cutscenes!!!" bullshit. It kind of REALLY rips off Evangelion, but Evangelion is good and so is Persona 3.
Junpei's fake out death is the least egregious in Persona. Chiho is a babe. Takaya is cool. Strega in general is cool.
Persona 5 is dog shit because it's wholly unoriginal. It's super derivative of the rest of the series and does nothing new. It really deserves P3's spot.
>Frick off Persona 4 is also actually good
scooby-doo tier plot
archetypal characters with only 1 direction of development
boring, empty, randomly generated dungeons
i think people only like this game for the shitty dating mechanics, if you can even call it that.
>Scooby-Doo tier plot
Maybe Monsters Inc tier, but definitely not original Scooby Doo Where Are You or even a Pup Named Scoob tier. Maybe even on tier with the live action Scooby Doo. The only reason you call it Scooby Doo is because the IT has passing similarities. If we compared Persona 4 to Scooby Doo: Where Are You!, you'd see it's nothing alike.
Scooby Doo is: Mystery Inc. go to place, meet celebrity, wacky antics, then find out the monster is a dude in a mask.
Persona 4 is about a serial murderer who actually is a serial murderer that manipulated some poor sap into kidnapping and almost killing people. There is no "unmask the monster to see he's just a dude". Characters overcome actual problems. Even touchy subjects like homosexuality and gender dysphoria are touched upon in a mature manner. It teaches us to overcome our flaws and our mistakes instead of being consumed by them.
Now Persona 5? That's truly Scooby Doo. Even with the villain of the week structure. They go unmask the monster (beating the boss) and find a man on the inside. They even ride around in a fricking van for frick's sake.
There is no positive message to be found in Persona 5. Compare Teddie to Morgana. They have the exact same character arc, but Teddie is better written. They handled it better. Morgana throws a b***hfit while Teddie makes himself useful.
>archetypal characters
Not really, characters are kind of unique with one or two exceptions.
>randomly generated dungeons
False. They are not random.
>I think people only like this game because...
Because it has an enjoyable cast of characters who give off positive energy instead of mopey loser shit. Everyone is leagues more charismatic. Only fatherless homosexuals like you dislike them.
Also because it's a fun game to play and very very comfy.
>Because it has an enjoyable cast of characters who give off positive energy instead of mopey loser shit.
did we play the same game? IMO P4 has one of the most generic casts ever; you've seen them all countless times in every animanga, chock-full of all of that japanese autism. the interactions in p4 were at the same level as your average hischool romcom anime. just about every other rpg I have played had more interesting, fun and unique characters.
I think you're confusing Persona 4 and like Trails or Final Fantasy or HyperDimension Neptunia where they're actually all generic stereotypes.
P3 is just a shitty rip off of Evangelion with character sterotypes that were copied from Persona 2 with some of the worst pacing ever
Not really, all those games are actually good.
No nocturne? P3 has gotten quite a lot of criticism in recent years to the point its no lover as beloved as it used to be.
Earthbound
Super Mario RPG
Pokemon garbage
Grow up.
agree with Earthbound overrated, spawn multiple earthbound like trash, all mario rpgs, all pokemon truly tendies got no tastes and good opinions at all
Super Mario rpg had a fun mechanic with timing button presses. Legitimately cool mechanic
Super Mario RPG is still a better and more complete game than any of the Mario & Luigi or Paper Mario games. Plus its a real, proper turn based RPG.
Trails is genuinely awful, it's like a caricature of every common JRPG criticism.
People will think you are trolling, but Trails in the Sky is one of the most dropped games I've ever seen on Steam.
Half Life 2 is at 24%
Half-Life 2 is only like that because the 74% is kids adding it to Steam for Gmod assets. Same thing with Counter-Strike Source
Makes some sense. It is a pretty long game and the first in the (sub) series, makes sense people who figure out the series isn't for them would quit there. The sequels have far less quitting as most people who bothered to get that far are in for the whole ride.
Filtering plebs and normalgays so hard is a good thing.
Estelle does that.
At least the first game (haven't started the others yet) is the perfect combination of Slice of Life + Adventure/Action.
I also think the dialogue is top notch for a multilanguage game.
Why cant you defend the game beyond calling everyone who dislikes it a normalgay? I have yet to see anyone explain why the super secret society letting you win because MUH COMPLEX MOTIVES when they could have easily killed you is good writing. Or why being forced to use Joshua and Estelle in my party whenever they are around for the entire game is good gameplay. Chrono trigger, an SNES game eventually let you switch out chrono in the late game. So why not trails SC? Its even worse in SC because you are forced to use le mary sue edgelord man after he was gone for half the game.
>P3
yes
>Trails
yes
>ToS
no. Tos was kino.
Completely backwards. shitfonia is the only one that needs to stay on that image.
>P3
can't control party members. trash grindy combat. shit "dungeons".
>Trails
lukewarm through and through. there's a reason everybody drops it.
>ToS
simple and clean jrpg. enjoyable. multiplayer allowed too. not a single bad quality besides cliches being present, but thats the same for the other two jrpgs.
Contarian or lack of taste. Either way its backwards.
overrated is moron-speak for "bad," it's a meaningless word at this point.
Persona has not been an RPG since 3 came out, it's a 100 hour VN with a 10 hour RPG clumsily tacked on on top.
I have never touched a Trails game nor do I feel any inclination to do so.
Tales of Symphonia is ok but it gets mogged by Abyss, Vesperia and Xillia 2, but it for damn sure is better than whatever the frick Arise was and also that unfinished shit Zestiria.
Symphonia fans I know are generally good about acknowledging its flaws. I think Vesperia is the overrated one
I think most people who really love Vesperia all agree the amount of missable sidequests you literally cannot find/maintain without a guide is utterly ridiculous at least. I've certainly never played a game with that amount before.
Symphonia is a 8/10 game in a console where the average RPG is a 6/10. Eternia is also a 8/10 game but it's on the PSX which is RPG heaven so no one spergs over it.
gamecube has skies of arcadia which instantly brings the average up to 7/10 at least
The God of Overrated JRPG's
>Trails in the Sky
Easily the worst in the series and aged really bad. I would agree completely
>P3
Tartarus is really bad compared to 4 and 5's dungeons but aside from that and some gameplay features in earlier editions its still pretty good. Its characters might seem stale if you started the older ones first since 4 & 5 both steal alot from it and completely embraced social links.
>Tales of Symphonia.
It didn't completely escape the test of time but it's still holds up pretty well. It's pretty standard fair for JRPG's so it would be hard to say it's horrible if you are a fan of the genre.
Games don't age, grow up. Name ways that Trails in the Sky or ToS aged.
Aging just means they got popular enough for reasonable people to play them and find out they were actually bad.
>Name ways that Trails in the Sky or ToS aged.
To start with, the graphics looked bad at the time of their release while nowadays it looks like Diarrhea. The combat has been improved upon multiple times over in future games, quests, world design, etc. Games that are timeless are ones where the core experience can be enjoyed without the age of the old systems and graphics being a real factor while playing through those games everything about it felt old and obsolete with nothing of charm like the characters or setting.
The graphics look fine to me. Nothing impressive but hardly terrible.
Trails didn't age. Symphonia was always bad.
what are some actual good jrpgs? megaten is strictly a far worse version of wizardry, trails is a mediocre VN, and the producer of the tales series said its not even a rpg.
Why did you put Kinos in the Sky in between those actually overrated games?
Sky is the most overrated of those 3.
Let me guess: seething Ysgay or seething Reantard?
>implying I played any dog shit from Falcom after playing that dog shit
Sky is considered the best from Falcom, THAT is the best. lmao.
FC isn't even the best Trails game, but it's still based just for filtering people like (You) immediately before you can ruin the series for the rest of us.
Sure, filtered from playing more dog shit. Working as intended I guess.
>the rest of us
*crickets*
Why are you talking about games you haven't played?
Trails in the Sky SC is the pinnacle of the genre.
By what metric? Not by systems, aesthetics, or storytelling. I can think of plenty of games that fill those categories better.
name them
>systems
I would probably go with SMT 4
>aesthetics
'gears
>storytelling
Xenogears again
>awful gameplay
>boring 1 dimensional characters that are Persona 5 tier generic
>story that goes nowhere for its entire run time as you meander with side quest shit
>graphics so bad they look worse than jrpgs that came out a decade earlier
What about it is supposed to be the pinnacle of the genre? Is Trails in the Sky literally the only jrpg you've ever played or something?
The 3rd, Reverie and Kuro are better.
Westerners don't realize the impact it had on Japanese high fantasy. Concepts like Adventurer's Guilds and its AT battle system were quite advanced by 2005 standards. It's a masterpiece oldschool RPG, possibly the last of its kind.
HGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Arc the Lad would call you a dumb Black person, but you'd never hear it with your head so far up your ass.
>Concepts like Adventurer's Guilds were advanced by 2005 standards.
Adventure Guilds have been in games since the 90's even in Japan. Games like Rance were doing it even back in the early 90's if I remember correctly.
More like 80s. But then again didn't Dragon Quest too?
Do you think Trails in the Sky came out in the 80s or some shit? Sky SC isn't even 2 decades old. It came out in the 2000s. What the frick trendsetting are you talking about?
holy shit what a riot
>posts badly animated head movement from the most plebeian anime studio of all time
>Trails
>filtering anyone
have you ever SEEN /vrpg/?
Well, yeah. The rean autist filtered out the entire forum with haha spam and the garbage jannies refuse to do anything about it at all since that's the only person that goes there anyways.
Do you actually think that's the work of multiple people?
If you genuinely believe the insane amount of Reanspam all came from one person then you might have the intelligence of a single celled organism.
If you seriously think there is a concerted effort between hordes of rean autists to shit up a board no one else visits, I recommend spending your time on /x/.
No one thinks it's a "concerted effort to shit up a board", we just think the Trails fandom is just shit.
>n-no you see it was all one person! hear the pleas of this one person to defend the entire fandom, wherever they are!
so the "fandom" is just you two then.
My observation is that /vrpg/ is a handful of schizos that have turned the board into their personal self-affirming playground (to the point of modders openly astroturfing the board to shill their content) and they are quickly becoming filtered. If it wasn't for the Bethesdrone/Obsidiot wankfest it would be fine.
Trails in the Sky always proves itself to genuinely have one of the worst fanbases I've ever seen for a game. Fricking no other game has fans this pretentious and smug for what is essentially "babbies first adventure JRPG" that you subhuman homosexuals only jack off so much because you've literally never played anything else.
>FC isn't even the best Trails game, but it's still based just for filtering people like (You) immediately before you can ruin the series for the rest of us.
Ah yes all 20 (I'm being generous) of you spergs who want Falcom to continue making horrible Sky-like games while everybody else laughs at how bad they are and doesn't play them. You really proved how based those games are.
It's always funny how you always see the same cope of "h-heh I don't want you to play it anyway" when the reality is they just don't have any actual confidence in the game and seethe when people play it and say it sucks.
Funny story, when I played the Steam version of SC, it had a bug where he doesn't appear in a cutscene he's supposed to be in. I thought it was intentional at first, but nope, he was supposed to be there.
shitty bait thread
breasts is boring, they need better pacing than talking.
Tales of Symphonia is purposefully stiff to get attacks out. Anyone that has played action based video games just won't care for it. On the other hand action RPGs just aren't good.
most people here shit on ToS more than it deserves tbh, replace it with kingdom hearts 2
Persona 3-4-5 should just have 1 logo since they’re all basically the same fricking game.
FINAL FANTASY VII
FINAL FANTASY TACTICS
FINAL FANTASY XIV
Frick you wienersucker
Trails is proof that JRPGs are a trashy genre held up by a small minority of screeching low IQ ESLs.
Skygays are a bunch of trannies who only like it the most because it's the only one with a female protagonist.
but the other games are even worse
Then you are the troony.
i dont even like sky. you are most likely one of the low IQ ESLs I was referencing. imagine the level of moronation someone would have to posess to even remotely like cold steel and then have the audacity to call someone else a troony. japs dont even like these games.
Ok troony
>a small minority of screeching low IQ ESLs
>t.ranny
You can pick any JRPG made in the past decade for this.
Playing Trails in the Sky and Trails of Zero/Azure is a nightmare without fast forward. While the story of both games is great, the battle system only improved with Cold Steel.
>all the fuming and seething over Trails ITT
Holy shit, for such a niche series it really manages to make tastelets insecure
>h-heh, you're just insecure... please stop saying mean things about my favourite game
If I had a crying wojak I'd post it.
If you hate Trails in the Sky, reply to this post with your favorite RPG. I dare you.
Skies of Arcadia
Congratulations, you've lost all credibility
Literally all of those examples are leagues better than Trails. If so many people disagree with you and YOU are the only one on your side. Here's a newsflash anon. You're the problem. Get some taste you worthless homosexual.
>too dumb and ignorant about the genre to even criticize them individually
shame, I was even looking forward to your pathetic arguments
I like Trails, but Legends is my favorite game of all time so I'll let it slide.
Abyss is actual garbage
Symphonia is garbage, but at the very least it reaches the low bar it sets for itself
Persona 2 Innocent Sin, Tales of the Abyss, and Super Robot Wars Z are my favorites.
Tales of Symphonia.
Xenogears, the game that trails tried to live up to and failed
You too
But Trails is much, much better than gears.
lol
>Trail is coherent
trails has less to say with 2 arcs worth of games than xenogears alone
Kinoblade 2
Shut up.
>Persona
Ass.
>Trails
Meh.
>Tales
Trash.
Skies of Arcadia and Legend of Dragoon need more love.
>Skies of Arcadia
This game has some pretty extreme flaws, especially considering how insanely tedious and time consuming battles are.
Never said it was flawless. I just said it needs more love.
Tell me you haven't played any of them without telling me you haven't played any of them. Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big really does drawn in these pathetic fricking secondaries that never played anything else and yet act like their garbage series comes anywhere close to what the greats of the genre actually look like.
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
Frick off steambabby, go back to Tales of the Basic
That literally has nothing to do with being coherent or not, not to mention it's wrong, congratulations you fricking brainlet who doesn't even know what coherent means
>Frick off steambabby,
That's what I should say to you. Play some more jrpgs you fricking secondary. Then you'll learn how much of a moron you are.
If your conception of Trails involves Steam, you are a homosexual newbie who should go back to homosexualy homosexual newbie land you fricking homosexual
Reading comprehension moron. Though this level of stupidity is what I should expect of someone who unironically thinks Sky is well written.
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
and look up what the word conception means you wiener slurping poxlord
Again, reading comprehension you fricking brick.
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
>Seriously Sky being one of the first Steam jrpgs to make it big
Again, you're illiterate you fricking zoomer.
The only illiterate one here is you moron. Most of Sky's current fanbase are secondaries that played it on Steam because it was one of the first jrpgs to make it big. As in it became big ON STEAM while a lot less are those that actually played the original PSP version. Fricking moron.
moron. Steam is literally part of your conception of Trails of the Sky. You stated it in your post. LEARN WHAT WORDS MEAN, ESL.
Ok I'm done, you're genuinely brain dead. I'm not arguing English with an ESL who thinks he understands it better than a native. You're a fricking moron. Play some more jrpgs you worthless homosexual.
>conception: the way in which something is perceived or regarded.
Yeah you are fricking done you esl slurpwit
It's coherent because it's cowardly, it never tries to be ambitious and the writers do not commit to anything, kiseki is a series with mass war and none of the characters are ever in any real danger
>it never tries to be ambitious
What? Literally the only other series with similar ambition is Kingdom Hearts. Most JRPG series are way too lazy and/or risk-averse to keep a continuous story going for decades, so they just reboot everything in every game. If you liked a character, good luck ever seeing them again. I'm still furious at how Atlus has treated Persona 1 and 2.
>Literally the only other series with similar ambition is Kingdom Hearts
yeah because they're both dogshit with 0 commitment, KH has been going for over 20 years and still hasn't established basic world concepts; "light", "darkness", and "heart"
also fricking lol at calling kingdom hearts ambitious, grow up
>If you liked a character, good luck ever seeing them again
having the same characters isn't not being lazy, it's the exact opposite. It's much safer to have established characters come back vs having a new cast
>kingdom hearts series
I've never been more disappointed with story telling. It would be a better game without a story
>having the same characters isn't not being lazy, it's the exact opposite
Kiseki introduces tons of new characters each arc. They just don't throw all the old ones away.
not what the guy I responded to said
>Literally the only other series with similar ambition is Kingdom Hearts
God I love it.
kingdom hearts isn't ambitious at all, it's a fanfaction-tier story crafted by two turbohacks (nomura and nojima) way past their prime. Off the top of my head nier and xenoblade (which is less ambitious in terms of story than xenogears, a game you're bashing) have far more ambitious stories in terms of long running series with multiple games.
Nomura and Nojima lost the ability to tell good stories following the merger of squaresoft and enix
>xenoblade
LMAO. Stopped reading there.
pictured: average scene in ToCS
XIV's story has good moments but is ruined by being an MMO. Otherwise yes stuff like FF15, 7R, and KH are horrible
The squeenix crew write drivel that's complicated for no reason. It's awful. Daytime soap operas have more logical and better written stories. They're total hacks
>kingdom hearts isn't ambitious at all
It's ambitious by way of having an amazing combat system and being hailed as one of the greatest ARPGs out there made by a team of veterans in the field that know their shit. Takahashi and his team WISHED they had half the talent KH's boys at squeenix had making KH2FM, not only is it a worldwide renowed instant classic but Xeno is only really ever rated because 1 was so great when every single one of its sequels managed to disappoint and never do anything worthy with the series.
>amazing combat system and being hailed as one of the greatest ARPGs
Oh no. You weren't in the FFVII:R thread were you?
What
>amazing combat system
this is like 1 or 2 games at most, the combat everyone jerks off over (2's) doesn't even get good until the post game
>one of the greatest ARPGs
not even close, you combat of 1 or 2 KH games is arguable as being great but otherwise the story, level designs, and RPG elements of the games are dogshit
>Xeno is only really ever rated because 1 was so great when every single one of its sequels managed to disappoint and never do anything worthy with the series.
literally every single gameplay aspect and multiple story aspects were improved in the sequels, but that's irrelevant. The lowest ranted xenoblade game has also received about as much recognition as the best rated KH one
Xenoblade's """gameplay""" is FFXV-tier, and barely exists compared to the hundreds of hours of gacha rolls and "OI MATE, DO YOU 'AVE A LOICENSE FOR THAT BLUSHY-CRUSHY?" cutscenes.
I don't actually think you've played a xenoblade game. Combat isn't anything special but it's unique, the exploration/level design and RPG elements blow out anything KH has ever tried to achieve
>Combat isn't anything special but it's unique
There's like twenty Sword Art Online games that look the same, play the same, and appeal to the same audience.
sword art games plays more like KH than xenoblade, they're action rpgs not real time
XC3 just btfo every single KH game so you're out of luck, Takahashi and his team WERE a large portion of the talent of square enix, that's why when he left taking a good portion of the chrono team, it contributed to squaresoft (now square enix) going to shit. There's a reason why takahash is the only big name to leave square and not get sent to mobile hell.
>XC3 just btfo every single KH game
correct
You're gunna get mocked but you're somewhat right.
KH story is so bullshit stupid that you can't predict it, but despite all the nonsense it's all still somewhat continuous. It just doesn't pull it off very well.
>You're gunna get mocked
I love how mentioning Kingdom Hearts in anything other than a negative light always triggers a melty of epic proportions. It just adds to the kino.
Yea I think anons are equating ambition with quality. A 10+ game continuous story that ties in time travel, split selves, alternate universes, Mickey Mouse and shonen anime tropes is certainly ambitious.
>triggers a melty
I feel this way about Cold Steel. The other 3 arcs not so much.
I played it on PSP because I had previously liked the Gagharv games and Gurumin. Kiseki is a pillar of the genre, just kamige after kamige.
You are the secondary for relying on Steam, a platform that is openly hostile towards Japanese games, to spoonfeed you games to play.
See
seriously fricking stupid. Though Skygays are mostly underage ESLs so that's also not surprising.
Nobody ever talks about those how are they overrated
Tales of Symphonia is literally the defining rpg of its era
Am I in Bizarro world? Usually people are shitflinging over Coldsteel not Sky.
I don't even think it's over rated. Just the niche who like it REALLY like it.
Symphonia is good, especially for it's time.
Persona 3 I like but Tartarus is shit.
Sky is undeniably the most overrated because they're all shit and yet Sky is the only one people like.
In my experience fans seem to love Crossbell over Sky.
That's not Endwalker.
They aren't even the most overrated games in their respective franchises, you colossal wienersucker.
>Gankeredditor gets assmad about trails again
you have no idea how happy it makes me knowing trails makes you somethingawful troons so angry 😉
haha and soon we will take over Ganker as well.
>trails in the sky is overrated
>also my favorite rpg is xenogears/tales of/persona
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I liked Cold Steel 1 a lot. CS2 was eh for me.
I have tried to start Sky FC on multiple occasions and I can't actually get around to getting past the prologue. I don't know why it hasn't hooked me like CS1 did.
no wonder this guy doesn't like kiseki. he can't read!
Lot of projecting and jealousy towards Kiseki ITT. It's a niche series guy you don't really have anything to prove berating it because it filtered you.
Skies of Arcadia should be one
Trials most definitely
Symphonia is multiplayer, trails is not
Trails is weeb shit unironically, symphonia is tame on the weeb
Symphonia has good soundtrack with the composer at his peak, trails is passable at best
Symphonia has the objectively better, faster paced gameplay
Trails is a fricking snoozefest.
P3 is overrated trash which is not even an argument , you can't even control your party members.
I played Symphonia to the end, and it was mostly just an obligation towards the end. Was there ANY optional stuff to do? Like, in FFX you have the omega dungeon, the calm lands monster arena, penance, dark aeons, etc. I think there might have been some colosseum place towards the end, but I was so bored I just skipped it to finish.
>symphonia is tame on the weeb
>Symphonia has good soundtrack
kingdom hearts is the naruto of rpgs
Tales of Symphonia is pretty good, even now if it shows its age a little. Solid story and a great coop game with a horrid multiplayer camera.
The little romance thing they did added on top of the classic grade shop made it really replayable.
A perfect game to have as a kid on gamecube of all things.
Is XC3 any good? 2 really turned me off from the series.
Loved chapters 1 to 4 so much, but chapter 5 onwards were a disappointment
Still better than xc1 which was mediocre all the way through and 2 being just a dumpster fire
Your choice if you want to try
I have never seen a mediocre game so unwarrantedly praised as much as Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Its not even in the discussion of one of the greatest ever.
It only gets discussed because it was a switch exclusive and had coom designs
>switch exclusives
played in on my PC just fine
Played on my Steam Deck just fine.
I played botw on my PC too lol fricking nintendo hardware. I laugh my ass off anytime I hear "xenoblade is only liked because it's exclusive", I've probably played 3x the amount of jRPGs these kids praising KH and kiseki have
Hmm I don't remember the VA being worse (the script is worse maybe that makes the voices seem worse as well) but yeah the characters and world are dogshit. It's incredible how sora got more moronic as a young adult vs when he was a kid in 1
>I have never seen a mediocre game so unwarrantedly praised as much as Xenoblade Chronicles 2
kingdom hearts 2
Everyone's loves KH2. Its not even debatable that KH2 is great at this point. If you don't like it, you're either a full moron or a contrarian edge lord.
uhhh okay.
KH2 is a major letdown coming off 1 in many aspects. The story is worse, the level design is worse, the exploration is worse, the pacing is worse. Combat is worse for most of the game until you get to the FM content late in the game. It's also overall a far less charming game, the transition from KH1 to KH2 is a perfect microcosm of how soulless square became after the merger
The voice acting is worse, the characters are worse, the world is worse too
This except Kh2FM
KH has some interesting ideas scattered throughout, but the entire thing is like this weird fever dream. Which is kind of alluring in it's own way but then the Disney kind of reminds me I'm just playing a kids game, and then I start thinking there really is nothing to this series outside of a saturday morning children's cartoon vibe, at least thematically. I usually don't get the idea that KH fans give a shit about the story though, it seems like it trudges on through gameplay and nostalgia.
you had to be a kid in the early 2000 to get it. kh3 was a dumpster fire that snapped a lot of people out of that memory
This was me except with KH2, I gave the games following it a chance but my god were BBS and days horrible. I haven't even played KH3 because of how bad those games were. I have no idea how anyone can defend KH's story with a straight face
The most offensive part about KH3 to me was those Disney attraction rides. I know they made it so you could disable it but it still taints the game in my eyes. Also the lack of any real payoff in the story.
I got all I wanted.
this was so cheap, they take a character's death that was the foundation of an entire spin-off game 10 years ago and undo it in 5 seconds? kh3 was a disaster
I like Fire Emblem but it is overrated. The maps and strategic depths outside of customization got watered down, but tons of people rep the series now since it introduced Self inserts and waifushit.
Even then my favorite old games like Genealogy and Radiant series were still heavily flawed.
Then there's Smashlards who hate it unreasonably.
Seems no one on here has any reasonable or middlegrounded opinions on the series. Just double sided obsession.
Fire Emblem has zero strategic depth. The entire game is a lesson in memorization/trial and error where you just autistically try to find the optimal route through each stage. I enjoy it, but let's be honest.
I disagree at it's best it feels like playing chess on varying structured maps.
I fail to see the optimizing trial and error unless you're one of those who reloads a save everytime a character dies.
How is fire emblem overrated, goddamn I despise you morons so much.
It's a good series with nice characters, decent enough dialogue, simple stories and fantasy worlds, and permadeath makes the combat exciting even if as you said it's not gigabrain strategy.
They're just fun, memorable fantasy games and I've not seen anyone call them anything better.
I've heard many people tout it as "genre defining" and praise it as one of the "best" stories.
On the flip side I've heard tons of people call it the worst shit ever based solely on a crossover fighting game.
That would be my definition of overrated.
>It's a good series with nice characters, decent enough dialogue, simple stories and fantasy worlds, and permadeath makes the combat exciting even if as you said it's not gigabrain strategy. They're just fun, memorable fantasy game
Yea I agree with that. That's why I still like it.
it's genre defining in a sense that it's the most popular sRPG series
>"best" stories
the bar for sRPG stories is really low so that's not a very outlandish statement
>srpg
what does this even mean? why do jrpg gays have to invent new genres so their garbage isnt compared to everthing else?
sRPGs began as an offshoot of wRPGs moron
>WRPGS
this is also made up JRPG lingo. do you mean tactical rpg?
oh I see you're an autist over semantics
>semantics
im not the one that needs to invent a billion new words to not get shit on by better games
I didn't invent the word I just use it, get over it
tactical RPG refers to a RPG that has combat on a tactical grid. strategy is misleading as all RPG combat is "strategic". its a stupid term. you are stupid.
>strategy is misleading as all RPG combat is "strategic"
not really, many action based RPGs are raectionary and not strategic. There's also clearly different levels of/focus on strategy across the genre so separate labels had to be made
>reacting in a rpg
how is that roleplaying
>what does this even mean?
Simulation RPG, contrary to popular belief, not strategy. In any case, the term i believe was coined by the japs themselves to refer to gridbased turnbased rpgs (FE, Ogre/FFT, shinning, etc.)
> the bar for sRPG stories is really low so that's not a very outlandish statement
The Matsuno games and the games inspired by him all shit on the Fire Emblem stories effortlessly. Tactics Ogre, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, Ogre Battle 64, and Final Fantasy Tactics are all far better in story, and pretty much every other way too.
>I've heard many people tout it as "genre defining" and praise it as one of the "best" stories.
Honestly never seen that besides sometimes the odd PoR wank.
But hey my fav FEs are FE8, SoV and 3h so what do I know
I always love FE games because they're the definition of comfy to me for some reason.
if you have ever sucked a penis or worn a black trenchcoat you should not be able to participate in video game discussion
Anyone who hasn't worn a black trenchcoat is a zoomer
nah you're gay
>youtube video
zoomer
Trying too hard

I thought chrono trigger was overrated
>Sky in between that kuso
Haram.
>all these skytrannies
reanchads, what do we do with 'em?
Same thing we always do: kneel to them.
>about to reply to stupid OP and his bait thread
>see all the other Trails fans and non-shit JRPG fans defend the games posted
All is well on Ganker. I thought OP would win for a second. But he got his (You) and proved that JRPGs are amazing at the same time.
Keep it up.
Estelle is cute
>Trailsgay is an avatar troony
The dots are connecting
I've been playing RPGs since 1994 and you have to realize that 99% of them are basically on the same level of okay and their enjoyment is largely dependent on whether you personally liking certain elements of the story, characters, gameplay or music just because it appeals to whatever arbitrary preferences you have. Any RPG that is popular is overrated. End of story. The few truly unique, masterful and genre defining RPGs out there are the least known and that's the unironic truth. RPGs that are honestly terrible are even rarer. Somebody thinks Tales of Symphonia is the best RPG ever made? That's okay, it really is a solid game even if there are hundreds of others just as good out there.
Shhhhh. Quiet with that logic and the fact that turn based combat is far easier to design from a technical aspect that any other RPG's combat.
We're here to praise the JRPG genre.
ok but what are the good ones?
The amount of morons telling you to remove Shitsona 3 is proof enough of the fact that it's overrated.
>all of this console war-esque autism
Don’t you guys ever get tired of this?
Ganker thrives off of autism. You should know this by now.
It's not console wars. It's real people with souls vs. Kiseki haters.
what console wars? hardly anyone is talking about consoles itt
go back to /lgbt/ twewy gay
>plays JRPGs
>calls anything else LGBT
Lmao
TWEWY is rad.
don't you guy ever get relevant? Oh no you don't. Kys twewyBlack person
in order:
>i don't play dating sims
>never played, don't know what it's like
>never heard of it but the protag looks like that one dude from super smash flash 2
>Persona 5
>Trails of the Cold Steel
>Final Fantasy 6
Fixed
Does anyone even give a shit about Symphonia anymore? 15 years ago you had alot of autists here swearing it was the greatest thing ever but it looks like they all died of old age
23 now and I find it impossible to even consider starting up a game in this genre. The idea of 30-70 or so hours of turn based combat just sounds like too much to me right now. When you guys play do you play games in short bursts over a long period or just kind of play however much you feel like? I don't want to give up on the genre but find it harder then ever to want to play or replay these games.
24 year old here and really, it depends on the game. If it’s a handheld, I tend to play it in short bursts. If it’s console, I usually set aside a few hours to dive right in.
Show us on the doll where Nomura touched you.
Just because your uncle touched you doesn't mean everyone's uncle did the same to them.
>posts SMTIV
>thinks he gets to talk shit
Lmao
i actually haven't played smtiv i just think the memes are funny
>t. Only played SMT1-3
I can't wait for Persona 6 comes out so the contrarians will stop shitting on 5. 5 is lightyears better than 3 and 4 but contrarians refuse to admit this because of it's rampant popularity among normalgays
