I'm not saying that unions are bad, I'm mocking their understanding of them, they think that unions do something else than represent the interests of the workers, if it was a union of policemen they would defend a police officer that shot 15 people to stop one drug dealer, they won't defend interests of others.
They think that a union will suddenly make your life great and save everything when the game has a systematic problem at it's core. A revoltion would have been better, suddenly doing more military ships or wrecks from a battlefield, sabotaging ships by putting bombs or weakening them, etc.

Company politics tend to be the feeding grounds of crazy sociopaths, but the hair color is no longer that true, too popular now, just like septums or tattoos. Now the mark of the crazy is their performative activism on social media.

Whatever it has transitioned to, the term blue hair basically isnt even about the hair color anymore, it implies their profile on twitter has pronouns, that 80% of their posts are about grievance politics or virtue signalling and that the other 20% are about how they are depressed, complaining about health issues, taking anti-depressants or seeing a therapist.

Some of the older designs still look pretty good, and the redesigns stay pretty close to them that it's easy to see why those were more popular. Then you got the anime mechs and it's obvious why they had to disappear for a little bit. Hard to believe the only thing stopping Battletech from rivaling 40k in size was constant legal battles and hilarious mismanagement.

It's impossible for 13 writers to actually write a coherent basic ass plot with all of them somehow weighing in. What they're trying to do with that list of writers is to dilute responsibility as they know it's fricking garbage.

If a relatively normal, competent developer known for subdued storytelling put a guy with a swastika tattooed to his forehead in a senior writing role, then released a stupid game about an edgy, sexually frustrated incel hunting down people with big noses you wouldn't be questioning who was responsible for fricking it up, even if the writing team had 15 people credited.

Both ship breakers and HW3 have the same problems in story. It's not theme, like you can convey an anti capitalist message well, you can extoll unions well, you can write an interesting character piece about self doubt
The problem with these themes in Ship breakers and the later in home world isn't the idea it's that it's done in a way that literally doesn't make sense. Like no one in charge gets in trouble on ship breakers, only one middle manager, it's still dangerous, there's still clones, you're still in debt and charged per shift, and before unionizing you can still work out of debt by performing well. It utterly fails at its own themes
HW3 is the same. It doesn't make any god damn sense in greater context. It doesn't do enough to redeem anyone while treating you like an idiot the entire time.
Utter failures of writing, not for what's being written about but how it's expressed

Got to be a staff issue. DoK wasn't this bad

        this is the right answer
most middle managers I've worked with have been fine
they've usually been the overworked ones because they thought the money was worth it for the extra responsibility and stress
        it's not
it's also harder to find work since you get laid off to give the execs bonuses
the only shitty middle managers I worked with were diversity hires who just blamed everyone else for their problems
it made me racist as frick seeing it happen all the time

I've mostly had bad middle managers who were either nepos or VERY out of touch. Still I've had a lot of fine ones too.
Now what seems to be every place's Achilles heel is communication. No one reads reports or if they do there's some mother fricker doing an outrageous spin job on it somewhere. Especially with subcontractors.
It seems everyone's on the same page and sending the same emails and yet nothing gets done about the problems

Good ship designs, good graphics, some fun missions, gameplay is generally decent. I like the roguelite mode, even if it is barebones.

I didn't play on maddening, I played on hard too and found it very cheap and unenjoyable. Every mission threw like 30+ enemies at you minimum, often with reinforcement waves. It was tedious and shitty. The story and characters weren't good either, but were hardly the reason I dropped it. They simply didn't grab me enough to force me to slog through to the end, it was simply a horribly unbalanced and badly designed game.
