People have been theorycrafting that with her break effieciency and the new harmony trailblazer could potentially keep an enemy break locked for a long time. The goal is not to increase your speed as much as possible, but to keep the enemy from ever acting.
I can't see a single reason to pull mei if you have a good bronya and tingyun
Mei enables double dps harder than those two tho. she's probably the most versatile unit in the game if it releases as it is in the beta. She gives a lot of DMG %, All-Res pen and most importantly, SPD, which translates into a lot of damage on relics.
The only teams she doesn't work well with are probably DoT because they want enemies to take turns but that's it, anything else is GAME.
Mid Yuan looked good too before release and we saw how that turned out.

I have a lot of SP hungry characters and I don't want to build anymore healers. On top of pulling, the amount of fuel it takes to build a character is ludicrous.

you have a whole patch to save for resources (money, exp books, etc) and the fuel needed to uncap characters is not that much, at the very worst you have to wait for weeklies but that's a time gated thing, nothing to do with cost.
This is only a problem if you just started, many people already have full teams and are just waiting for the new characters, just like genshin.
I'm not sure how because I'm starved for resources constantly because I need to build a lot of characters, I did take a long break but it shouldn't be that bad.

IMO the problem is that they're releasing too many characters and not doing enough reruns. If you want meta, you'll have to buckle up. If you just want to play for fun, however, you might enjoy it. I don't usually like turn-based games but this one is very simple but still quite flexible. I like it.
Even if you do spend money the only things worth buying are the gem pass and battle pass which is like $15 or something for both. Basically an mmo subscription.

The problem with space China is that the TB is basically not even there and has had a whole 2 moments of agency. New DoT set is better and so is the new Planar set that increases damage at 135/160 speed so if you have her built and want an optimal build you literally have to start over from scratch. The only saving grace is she's easier to get good pieces for 'cause she doesn't need crit stats.
