They can't unless you go back in time and prevent data mining and discord from existing

This is part of the problem. israelitetubers, guides and alike are a big problem too where so many causal shitters just immediately float relatively high just because they follow the guides which are just everywhere and plentiful.

    Stop caring how others play

"stop caring how others play" is what led to every MMO focusing on the extremely loud and extremely tiny minority of "hardcore" gays who want a rush to 'endgame' and doing stupid fricking raids and grinding for shit so they can grind for shit 0.001% more efficiently. And that is catered to in a severely disproportionate fashion at the expense of the rest of the game.

Still has all the same problems as modern MMOs
      1. Discord cliques that derail the in-game socialization aspect entirely
      2. The entire game is solved so everyone expects you to metagay to do anything no different than any modern datamined slop

If they rangebanned all cheaters in xiv...sure the game would only have like 10% of its population...but it would be worth playing then.

I ignore the meta and play with awful players who have yet to look up anything about how to play the game.

It's the most fun I have ever had with an MMO.

Anon the entire point of MMOs is socialization.
People becoming unsocial autists is the main reason why the genres so bad now.
Maybe there wouldnt be so many homosexuals if it were like the old days where acting like a raging butthole means no one wants to play with you and now you cant grind for shit solo.

    Kill endgame, make progression fun.
Make it so you want to keep making new characters and re-experiancing the climb to the top rather then getting to the top as fast as possible so you can play the real game.

Also make sure it always feels like an mmo. No solo instances, global should be full of morons spamming toucans or racial slurs while debating Aristotle.

You don't have to interact with everyone but you should see people constantly.

What MMOs even feel like MMOs anymore? FFXIV only does when you're doing a babby ass hunt train, doing anything else outside of instanced content or hub areas you're lucky to see more than 3 other people. The only other MMO I really actually played was Guild Wars 2. It has a LOT of shit wrong with it but at least world bosses, meta-events, and good event farms like Dragonfall and Drizzlewood actually feel like there's a ton of people working towards a common goal. World vs World can be good too but it's very stale and highly dependent on not being matched with cheaters or Black folk. A friend played Throne and Liberty and it seemed pretty meh but it also at least has the Massively Multiplayer part ring true.

I really like this zergy, loosely coordinated type of stuff but it seems like MMO's cap out at like 8 players, maybe 24 in specially designated "Alliance Raids".

The only way to fix MMOs is to create an infinite time gltich IRL
Its not the games that are changing, everything changed when people started to understand that time is a resource like everything else in the game.
If you remove the need to maximize time, MMOs can be fun again

the real answer is small-scale multiplayer games like Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft have replaced MMOs, they steal all the youngins who would otherwise be playing runescape and shit in the good old days
the MMO is now just a niche like any other and there's nothing you can really do to bring the same numbers in without making the MMO another game genre entirely

I'm pretty sure that all of the MMO games have always been Skinner's boxes. All of the MMO games aren't fun. They're just addicting.

I finally caved and just set up a private wotlk server with my friends. There will never be another good MMO. The moment they try selling something in game for irl money, it's over.
