It seems like everyone buys JRPGs on Switch despite them running worse on it. Some games are only 30fps on Switch but 60 on PS4.
Is it really just the portability? Doesn't seem worth the trade-off to me.

Sony betrayed japanese and weeb gamers. Playstation used to be the home for JRPGs.
don't worry tendie maybe you'll get to play FFXVI one day, on the switch 2, or 3 or 4
FPS doesn't matter much in turn based RPGs
OLED screen
Portability to grind on the way back from work/school.
Snoy has a hate boner for weeb stuff.
Live A Live was just an example. What about games like Star Ocean Second Story R which aren't turn-based? A lot of complaints of the choppiness of the Switch version, but according to Amazon and Youtube it's more common on Switch.
Star Ocean is more heavy than Live a Live
Then why is everyone buying it more on Switch?
gimme the qrd on this game
is it worth 50? seems a bit steep for a SNES game
Haven't played it, I just used it as an example pic. I was going to get it on Switch until I saw how much smoother it looked on PS4, now I'm considering that version instead. But apparently everyone else bought it on Switch. I have no idea now.
It's the GOAT in my opinion
All the characters star in their own chapter, each has some different mechanics
Then they team up for the finale
It's a good game
It's a demake. They removed all of the gameplay from the game (example: Giving you a map in a section that was defined by you making your way through a heist undetected without a map or other resources originally.)
Same with the scavenger hunt.
Same with the spaceship.
Martial arts tournament was nerfed to oblivion (you won't even see many of the moves now.)
Also they censored the game.
It's a pure demake, but SE-sloppers promote everything the company makes.
At best it's worth pirating.
>How come JRPGs do better on Switch?
if they did, i'd have better luck starting yggdra union threads
I remember playing this (or was it Riviera) on my GBASP
Shit was great but I don't remember a single thing about the game at this point
Bro the whole Dept. Heaven is ported to switch so yeah the switch is the JRPG machine, just in japan tho. At least it seems Sting has learned and worked on a really good enhanced port for Steam.
Yes, even Falcom (most stubborn company probably) is going Nintendo now as well.
Still waiting for Ys oath and Trails in the Sky 1-3 on Switch.
Sky is FUBAR because of XSEED situation tbh. I don't think it will ever leave PC. (They will have to pay XSEED to do this as far as I understand.)
Falcom pretty much admitted it was a mistake to start so late on the switch market, that says all. Even Compile Heart the most weeb of them all is on the switch. Sony lost them all.
Yggdra was niche as fuck on the GBA too. Can't expect every game to have threads that do well.
>expects a niche game from 2004 to have active threads on Ganker
Realistic expectations will save you a lot of frustration.
Most gamers are retards who live with their parents, to avoid the shame of having their dad walk in while they're playing their japanese borderline hentai game they play on some portable so they can hide it under a blanket when it's convenient
Ok but I would appreciate actual answers, not memes.
I see I struck a nerve lmao
Your dad isn't going to think your any more of a disappointment because the pretty anime girlie is flashing her tits on the big TV screen he bought with his money, kiddo.
I own a house, anon. But you're still weird
>so much seethe he forgets grammar
H8 to see it yet here we are
you sound particularly upset, my nigga
>manchild westoid gets called out
>instantly doubles down
lmfao
stay mad
Speaking from personal experience i see.
You're a weird guy, anon
@657548062
>I see I struct a nerve lmao
I just don't want this thread to devolve into shitposting but it seems like it's already about to thanks to your comment. Because of that, I won't give you another (You) and I encourage everyone else to ignore this guy.
>I don't know how to greentext
Unironically embarrassing, kys immediately newfag
Portability accounts for atleast half of the reason. FPS doesnt matter to the layman or average gamer which there are more of than pros.
>Sitting/standing wherever you want > standing/sitting w/e your setup is
I mean it's Sony's own fault
Not too many people have been discussing the topic. Is portability really the only reason?
Portability and the switch has a MUCH bigger install base. Also Sony basically told Japan and weebs to go fuck themselves
Makes sense. I have a list of JRPGs that I want to play. I was planning on buying them all on Switch so I can finally ditch the PS4. Then I found out about the framerate and resolution issues and am considering just sticking with PS4 even though I love the Switch. What a shame.
>Then I found out about the framerate and resolution issues
This is extremely anecdotal, but I grew up playing games on a dogshit PC that could barely run Solitaire at a solid 30fps. For that reason, I still catch myself getting caught off guard by 60fps sometimes with how smooth it is, and because of it I really, genuinely don't mind games at 30fps or at 720p.
If I ever managed to notice the difference, I'd likely forget it just as soon as the battle or cutscene was over and be unbothered by it.
That's fair. I'm kind of in-between. For 2D or 2D-esque games it needs to be 60fps because I grew up on SNES so that's what I'm used to. For 3D it's not as important.
>60fps because i grew up on the us snes
Ah the curse of being an americunt
Based unaffected anon, we live as free men compared to the fps obsessed slaves
Same, for whatever reason the potato I used had a really bad tendency of going to 30+ fps, sometimes approaching 60, when it was about to overheat and turn off.
I feel uncomfortable when running a game at 60fps for the first time.
As others said: Install base.
But also: Sony used to be less censorious than Nintendo (by a lot.) Now they are probably the same in terms of censorship.
The JRPG fanbase had moved on to the Switch, or at least away from playstation. Rpgs are also single player games that tend to be played slower for the most part, so lower resolution and framerate don't appear to be important compared to an action game or a multi-player game. Also it seems like the current playstation fanbase would rather play Genshit, Fortnite, COD or Fifa than actually sit down to play an rpg.
>Same in terms of censorship
You mean more. Pic related is not an rpg but was released this year and only the playstation version got censored.
>Now they are probably the same in terms of censorship.
internally? sure, but assuming that blaze union remained intact from psp to switch, they're a lot more lax than snoy on third parties now
because jrpgs are for children
why do westoids love to project their own manchild tendencies?
Snoy tried to kill the japanese vidya industry, japan hit back and boycotted snoy so hard that it actually affected the anime industry by crippling it's BD sales because nobody has BD players anymore.
>nobody has BD players anymore.
What? So Japan went back to DVDs or something?
It's just centralized. Sony alienated the JRPG community during the PS4 era and now people are just buying the games on the platform they already have everything else on.
Turn based RPG is the one genre where I don't really care about frame rate. I prefer playing them portable since they're easier to pick up and play.
japanese have more switch than playstation, people buy a nintendo console for japanese games so you have a bigger japanese games friendly playerbase
>Want to buy Second Story R on Switch
>It's 30fps
Is this one of those games that needs to be played in 60 or is 30 acceptable?
Kys.
Anyone?
It's an ARPG, decide for yourself how important 60fps.
Play the demo. It runs fine. If you care that much about the performance, get the PC version.
@657552563
You tried
To compare I when to check how much it sold in PC, not even 10k so I assume is worse on PS4. Last SE report of LaL says it sold 500k.
Let's just assume it sold 20k total PS4+Steam.
You're saying it sold 480k on Switch? Was it available on any other system? Because that's insane.
It was announced during a Direct and I think started as a timed exclusive for Switch, similar to the first Octopath.
So it had that going for it in that way.
The first Octopath came to PC like a year after switch released and sold decently.
Yet Octopath 2, which came out at the same time in everything, sold LESS than Octopath 1.
Octopath 2 sold less than 1 in general. It makes sense though, a lot of people bought Octopath 1 cause they thought it was interesting and then ended up not liking it very much. 2 didn't retain those players so it sold less.
It actually sold less on PC than Neo TWEWY which is a confirmed failure that never got a fucking sales milestone announcement like LaL did (SE only announces sales numbers if the game actually made a profit).
And fucking Sould Hackers 2, a devastating failure, actually sold better on PC than both LaL and NEO.
Sony betrayed Japan unlike Nintendo who actively advertize nip games, as many have said. Plus, Nintendo is trying to close the gap between westerners and nip releases ever since Xenoblades, since the Xenoblade series showed Nintendo that people outside Japan care about nip games
i honestly play most of my JRPGs on the toilet. just not enough time in the day otherwise.
will it take a year? yes.
Who as the kung fu successor, bros?
I don't think they all do
muh snoy thing is a Ganker meme
I think some of the factors are obvious, like getting announced on Nintendo Directs first, Switch exclusivity even if timed, or just outright exclusivity - I think this is the first time Nintendo has concentrated so much on JRPGs that they develop/pay another developer exclusivity rights.
You got 3 Xenoblades, 2 FEs, like 10 Pokemon games, MH Stories, stuff like Triangle Strategy, Octopath, LaL, DQXIS that launched first on Switch, the SMRPG remake.
Stuff that launches on PS first usually does better in PS - shit like P5R and 13 Sentinels.
Maybe more graphically/performance intense games also sell better their, like the Trails series except for Zero/Azure and stuff like the Ryza trilogy
>muh snoy thing is a Ganker meme
imagine downplaying snoy unironically trying to kill anything that came from japan
>look, my entire personality and thinking is based on Ganker!
lol
>nooooo, jrpgs totally still have an audience on snoy consoles!
>j-just ignore the fact that pretty much only marvelous stays out of stubbornness!
and so the snoy stops pretending and starts coping again
itt: mindbroken tendies
Sony has been going out of their way to bury japanese games since the ps2 era. Going so far as to even not show trailers for their own exclusive shit at E3 because they were japanese (persona, gravity rush, nier, nioh etc were given no stage time at E3 during sony's conference despite trailers being ready to go)
Switch is comfy.
JRPGs are comfy.
So it's comfy2
Nobody really cares about 30FPS other than retarded pc babies

Oh I have that game too, forgot to add it.
>
Not necessarily a turn based JRPG but crymachina was also good.
If you do want a JRPG then mon-yu is a better EO than EO thanks to fatlus being incompetent shits.
Xicatrice is edgy like mary skelter but also entertaining.
Speaking of which, the mary skelter series, duh.
>FE
Not a JRPG series
>Mary Skelter series
Which one do you recommend the most?
>Mary Skelter series
>Which one do you recommend the most?
2 includes both 1 and 2 so it's the best value, you can move on to the third game if you like them and want to see the end. It's nice that it's just a neat little trilogy without much bullshit.
FE three copes was meh, but engage was unironically good, in japanese anyway, the trannylation is garbage like any trannylation.
Not necessarily a turn based JRPG but crymachina was also good.

Persona 4 & 5
chained echoes
Triangle Strategy, shitty name but it's probably the best tactical RPG on the switch
Get Astilbra that comes out on the 16.
I'm going to make this simple. People just want to play the game. The Switch is the cheapest console, and it plays the games well enough. JRPGs are not that demanding. Yes, the different form factors for play are a benefit, but it's not the determining factor.
People that own and buy games for Switches actually like JRPGs, not games pretending to be JRPGs.
Why would I need 60 fps for a spreadsheet simulator? Portability is worth it.
Portability was a huge factor for me personally.
I would usually elect to play RPGs, rougelikes, or smaller scale indi games on my Switch over my PC because I liked getting cozy in bed and going hard at it for a few hours.
I have an easier time focusing on something with a slower pace that way then if I'm sitting upright at my computer desk.
I've moved over to my Steam Deck these days though, after my joycons broke I never bothered to buy another set since most games I just play with my pro controller anyways.
I also don't want to drop another 70 dollars just to have them fall apart on me again.
I just like snuggling in my bed while I play cozy RPGs, what can I say.
JRPG is probably the genre that suffers the least from low framerates (besides VNs, but I'm talking about games) because there's little to no action where you NEED to be at the right speed to avoid dying. It's just strategically picking options in a menu 99% of the time, it's not like choosing your turn slower is gonna kill you.
Drivel like this is how anyone can tell westoids know jack shit about JRPGs.
I know westoids are used to "cinematic" menus that take forever to do anything in but responsiveness matters.
Playing Jrpgs on a handheld while laying on bed is more comfy. This is why switch succeeds.
It is simple. Switch is the popular platform now. If you look at console gens numerous times the weakest one won despite the ports were always shittier on it. Turns out most people don't care about graphics unless the game is a catastrophe. The people who are crying about graphics and performance are only a small subset of people and this is why the explanation gets posted regularly about how dangerous to Sony is when Nintendo upgrades their hardware. Because the only real advantage Playstation has is the ability to run games Nintendo can't and due to diminishing returns Nintendo is closer and closer to be able to run anything, even on a gimped portable. This will expose the graphicsfagging minority is in fact a minority and not something you can build an ecosystem on.
Nintendo for the win.
Nobody can compete with Nintendo.
Playing JRPGs, which are a very relaxed genre, on a handheld, which is good for relaxing in bed or a sofa chair, is best.
Also nice to be able to grind in JRPGs a bit while on a commute like the train or bus.
