You still have massive hits like Grim Yawn, PoE and Diablo 3

arpg should have combined with CRPG

instead CRPGs get dogshit combat and arpgs have no draw

Having to go through a bunch of dialogue on runs of repeat difficulties sounds like a drag even if you can mash through it

I'm playing Assassin for the first time ever. At first I thought the charge system would make combat more interesting but just at Bone Ash and it feels tedious already.

I like kicksin but you need to be at least a little bit autistic to farm for crushing blow gear.

Because of Diablo 3 being such a bad game.

why do people make stupid fricking pointless threads like this that are obviously not fricking true??? diablo 4 is coming out in june, poe 2 is on its way and plenty of games have been released relatively recently. before diablo 3 and path of exile thats when arpg's were truly dead.

      have a nice day

There are plenty of diablo clones but what frustrates me is that none of them encourage or require team play, everyone just plays in their solo game and only ever teams up or interacts with other players through trade but even that is kept to a minimum.

None of the clones manage to get both enemies/combat and items/stats good

you obviously weren't around in the 2000s so you dont need to embarrass yourself further, but if you would like to, can you name another arpg diablo clone that came out after diablo 2 before diablo 3 and poe? ill wait

        Diablo 2 is only decent

Because they are wholly unfulfilling. Get loot to do bigger numbers to get better loot to do bigger numbers. The gameplay is not engaging since the end goal is to engage as little with the gameplay as possible by making a broken build that can instantly kill anything around you as quickly and efficiently as possible. The failure state is instant death, the winning state is instant victory. You might as well play a dice game where every time you roll above a 3 you get a bigger die with higher numbers

Because it didn't evolve and remained a numbers game. Nothing but stat pools and that's it. Frick practicality, realism, or inherent skill. It's just numbers.

Because almost no-one managed to improve on Diablo 1 in any important way, and almost no-one but me plays the games by the one dev who did. (Soldak)
Well, to be fair, I guess Borderlands happened too. That's an arpg direction I have no interest in though.

they are in a weird place between ludo and narrative where the narrative drags down the ludo but isn't meaty enought to be satisfying in it's own right, and yet unlocking all the narrative requires so much repeated ludo by the time you unlock all the ludo options for your character you're tired of it and want to play another character with different ludo. but then here comes that weakass narrative again ugh groan zone. also the metaludo revolves around watching 9 hour build guides and getting perfect luck based drops and generally being autistic and unfun, WHILE ALSO defeating its own purpose because once you complete the perfect build there's no reason to keep playing. they are fun when you start but decrease in fun logarithmically the more you put into them. cursed genre that doesn't belong in this world.

Most RPGs nowadays are ARPGs. Every western RPG is an ARPG because they never have turn based combat anymore.

What was the last western RPG? Pathfinder? BG2? Divinity OS2? All those games are turn based

Diablo invented it basically, but no one actually expanded on it, just cloned Diablo 20 years, same as arena shooters.

arpgs are glorified clickers where the endgame is find 1% increases on gear.
Honestly I think Risk of Rain has the best distillation of the genre.
