>With what, the PSP which literally sold half as many units as the DS?
The 3DS flopped hard at launch, almost as bad as the Vita. Honestly, the 3DS was garbage and deserved to fail. But Nintendo kept supporting that hardware and it ended up being very successful; Sony gave up immediately.
every analyst back then were saying angry birds had killed portable gaming, and it's fully possible sony fell for the meme.
boy, they probably feel real silly now, eh?
they can hardly make any games for the ps5, what do they even have left to put on a vita 2? especially with how all their games are cinematic experiences nowadays. nothing thats just pure gameplay, which is exactly what you need for a handheld
They can make a x86 handheld compatible with PS4 games. There, giant library right from the get-go. If a developer makes a game for the PSP3/Vita2 or whatever it's called, it also runs on PS4 and PS5. And vice-versa.
Also, why the frick haven't they made a PS1, PS2 and PS3 emulator yet. Microsoft has zero games worth playing, but their newest consoles can run even original Xbox games. Sony can take advantage of the entire PS1 and PS2 library... but no backwards compatibility. Why are they so dumb.
Now, imagine this hypothetical PSP3, capable of running all PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and future PS4/PS5 cross-gen titles.
specially when they're putting everything on deck, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like GPD Win 4 but with a stupidly walled garden proprietary OS but all PS4 games, which would be insanely huge specially if you could play Ratchet & Clank, Fall Guys, Fortnite, FIFA, NFS, NBA 2K, CoD Zombies, etc.
>use the rear touch pad
That's literally the worst part about the system.
It needed actual triggers, L3 and R3 would have been nice too, but it absolutely needed a full controller setup at the minimum.
To use the rear touchpad, you have to stretch your fingers nearly to the center of the back of the vita, which takes your thumbs off of the thumbsticks entirely and makes pressing the face buttons awkward.
There wasn't a single crossplay title that utilized the rear touchpad for anything other than l3+r3 because of how moronic and out of place it was, and most games just used the four corners of the front touch screen for l2, l3, r2, r3.
I can use an Xbox duke controller perfectly fine. If you're going to larp as a vita owner, maybe don't give yourself away by saying the rear touch is accessible.
And I can frick your mom.

I don't need actual triggers, but what wouldn't have hurt is if the back touch was either also clickable, or wasn't as tall so they could fit slim L2/R2 buttonson the backside to click with your middle fingers.
look i'm not gonna defend the back touchpad but >To use the rear touchpad, you have to stretch your fingers nearly to the center of the back of the vita, which takes your thumbs off of the thumbsticks entirely
lol
I don’t necessarily disagree with this, but there are certain peripherals (like pic related) that basically compensate for this. Admittedly this one in particular is stupidly overpriced for what is essentially a non-issue, but if you wanna max out the ergonomics if your Vita then they’re basically necessity IMO.
Yeah try playing any of the PS2 collections on it and see just how nice and well the touch screen and rear touch pad substitute for the lack of L2/L3/R2/R3 (they don’t, it was an awful experience)
>Memory cards were too expensive compared to sd cards >Games on the iPhone were actually full games back then and cost $10 or less vs $50 for a vita game >Stupid name
Memory cards, targeting PC ports without the horsepower, Sony dropping 1st party support after year one. All of this pales in comparison to the fact the iPhone and Galaxy S series devoured their previous audience, to the point even the Nintendo 3DS had their sales cut in half.
No first party support.
Funnily enough, I think giving developers a way to make games that don't need to be AAA graphical masterpieces may been handy for Sony now. This system could have been a Horizon machine or something.
At no point in my many years of owning both a PS Vita and PS4 did I ever experience anything close to this.
Is it because I'm not Japanese and don't live in Japan?
Vita but what people don't talk about is battery life. The Vita can run PSP games for longer than a regular PSP, it has a bigger, better battery that won't explode, a better screen and controls. Being able to map for example, the touch screen to Start or L2 R2 for Psone games is such an advantage. And people never mention these points. You can also speed up Psone games by pressing Select and L1 at the same time.
>How could Sony frick this up? It's literally perfect.
Because Sony has no major IPs they can shill to death to market a system. They have to rely on 3rd party major developers that would rather spend the time making a console game.
The VIta was also releasted when shitty phone games began to dramatically take-off so there was little inventive to get a handheld console if you were a casual player. Again, Nintendo worked around this by having Pokemon and Mario.
>No games >You got UMD games? frick you
PSP was and is my favorite handheld of all times.
The Vita had a moronic name and only Gravity Crush going for it.
No Loco Roco 3, Pursuit Force 3
Killzone Liberation 2, No Megaman Powered Up 2!
No new Socom games or Syphon Filter.
Basically same as the Ps4 and 5.
Sony decided against founding any game the PSP fanbase could had been excited about and developed little to no games. I am pretty sure the entire library is just about as big as the Virtual Boy.
>No Loco Roco 3, Pursuit Force 3 >Killzone Liberation 2, No Megaman Powered Up 2! >No new Socom games or Syphon Filter.
Good, frick all of those games, it was worth it just for Tearaway

Don't listen to that moron.
It does psp and ps1 titles perfectly. It will also run nes, snes, sega, and gameboy perfectly fine.
I don't use it as my main device (I use a new2ds plus the vita for everything up to ps1) but it's definitely worth a shit if you can get it cheaper than 100$.
Why would you even bother lying if what you’re saying can be easily disproven by literally anyone with a Vita? Or are you too stupid to Adrenaline properly?
feels a bit better in the hands and has nice controls, but worse in every other way.
if you don't want to specifically play vita games the rp3+ is just better.

lol, nothing personal
>all discussion genuinely feels like advertising
It absolutely does not. It reads just like every other idiotic bait thread that you wienersucking zoomers insist on making. Elden Ring certainly didn’t need Ganker to break the charts in terms of sales, and I don’t imagine the Steam Deck does either. You guys making the claim that every single thread about anything new is advertising is so positively BORING that it teeters on being offensive.
>the world doesn't revolve around me, baw.
I hate sales threads and PC build questions on this board too to that degree but if you aren't actively filtering topics, you're being a masochist and ruining your website experience.
PSP piracy was so bad Sony had to lock it down to get third party publishers to bother with Vita. Those publishers made some initial Vita ports and every game but Uncharted completely bombed on it leading everyone to write it off but very niche third party devs and indies.
Power of video games while not looking like a manchild baby.
NO BODY played handheld gaming devices in public. Meanwhile I can play coomer gachas on my phone without getting nasty stares from women.
Sony’s only real mistake with the Vita was not making a ‘killer app’ game that would get people to come out and buy it. For the entirety of its lifespan, Vita’s library consisted almost exclusively of indie games, low-budget JRPG/VN spinoffs of anime, and gatcha; most of which wasn’t even localised outside of Japan. Even in Japan it only ever really managed to gain traction with nolifer otaku.
It's a good thing this failed, otherwise we'd all be paying out the arse to play games.
The original models literally couldn't play any games, not even physical ones, without an overpriced memory card. When you buy a console, and you buy a game for said console, that's supposed to be all you need to play it.
israelite fricks at Snoy decided they'd try and squeeze consoomers for a little extra, and I'm glad it backfired.
I own this thing but I bought it like new 6 months after launch for half the price and with a memory card and games included. If you bought it for retail you're a dumb c**t.
I have been convinced for a long, long time that Sony is full of saboteurs. What happened to the PSP is nothing compared to what happened with their online games, which eventually got sold off and became Daybreak. Countless games neglected and then canceled for no reason, to say nothing of all the franchises they forget about to the point where they risk losing trademarks.
>dropped my vita once >didn't crack my screen >cracked the lense on the rear camera
I mean it's like a 0.1mp garbage camera that shouldn't have been on the system in the first place, but it still pisses me off knowing it's basically useless.
>snagged my foot on my PSP's charging cable yesterday >fell off my desk onto the floor >battery cover popped off but everything nothing is damaged as far as I can tell

Vita was greenlit by the previous SIE management. When the current management got into power they intentionally sabotaged it so all the resources could go to PS4.

The original PSP-1000 felt like a premium product for its time even with UMDs.
The Vita just feels like a disappointment in the hardware department even if it finally fixed the D-Pad and sticks issue.
For everything it got right, it got 2 more things wrong.
>3G model that was dead on arrival
I still think this was a good idea with bad execution and tried way too early. Being able to play handheld quality games online on the go without relying on hotspots was a great idea. Needing a phone plan for it and trying to do it over 3G not so much.
there is no market for it
do you really think the PSP was great because of Sony's games specifically?
no you dumb moron. it was Konami with Metal Gear. Square with Dissidia. Namco with top anime games like God Eater Burst. Capcom with Monster Hunter. Nobody gave a frick about the Vita and that's why it failed. Everyone abused it as a port-cum-dumpster. The industry just let that thing die because handhelds were to them even in 2012 too redundant.
Sony just abandoned a sinking ship. It's not their fault
yup
not having banger games like this is pretty much the end for your console
morons will keep coping about some memory card bullshit but the industry was just way past handhelds. >hurr durr bruh the SteamDeck is doing fine thoooo
emulator box, not a handheld. doesn't have tailormade games and never will. this
Don't worry the deck has taken it's place and is actually good unlike vita.
homie is literally emulating a PSOne game and it's not even the good one (RE3)
+Two sticks
-Only 2 shoulder buttons
-High res widescreen
-Back touchpad that is always getting pressed
-Games dim screen
-Core locked to os
-Ridiculous amount of ram locked to os
-Vram and system ram are again seperate, sony didn't learn from the nogamesstation tripple
-Propriatry memory card with shit read/write rate
-Memory card has low storage and costs loads
-Web browser only has 4 tabs
-Can't really use it as a phone
-Have to reformat to use another login/only 2 logins per card, logins don't share games
-Need a workaround adapter to be able to charge it while using it
It sucked, but I brought 2. Burn in is worth it for led. Peace Walker and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite machine.
Sony barely tried to take advantage of its power to bring console tier gaming to a portable device like the Switch wound up being. You saw glimpses of it at the start but they immediately gave up and it basically became a portable pedophile weeb device.
Aparently you can overclock it :))
But it might blow up the battery. That happened on my overclocked phone. Probably ok for vita. An extra 5fps is a massive difference.
>play PSX/PS2 game on Vita >legitimately purchased on the Snoy store >keep pushing the touchscreen in the back by accident >weird shit happens in my game >turn off touch screen >can't play game because no key rebind functionality
Proprietary memory cards, proprietary media playback (massive step back from the PS3) and lack of a killer app. Sony should have tried to nail down a Monster Hunter game from capcom.
Fortunately, custom firmware has unlocked it's latent features and made it the perfect legacy handheld system.
Don't really know. They had Nintendo sweating and still couldn't be assed to support the thing.
The memory cards were a scam, mind.
>They had Nintendo sweating
With what, the PSP which literally sold half as many units as the DS?
>The memory cards were a scam
Yes and this, combined with a lack of support from most developers across most genres (Sony included) are the reason why it flopped.
It deserved so much better, it's the last Sony console I actually enjoyed owning and that wasn't just holding exclusives to ransom.
I don't know what you're talking about. The Vita was a top-notch weeb game machine.
>$60
but >muh inflation
>With what, the PSP which literally sold half as many units as the DS?
The 3DS flopped hard at launch, almost as bad as the Vita. Honestly, the 3DS was garbage and deserved to fail. But Nintendo kept supporting that hardware and it ended up being very successful; Sony gave up immediately.
Backwards compatibility as far back as GBA was also a killer feature >inb4 muh CFW doesn't count
>The 3DS flopped hard at launch
Which had absolutely nothing to do with what Sony was doing.
pretty much the memory cards being overpriced and small. if you bit the bullet and got a 32 or 64gb one you were set up though
every analyst back then were saying angry birds had killed portable gaming, and it's fully possible sony fell for the meme.
boy, they probably feel real silly now, eh?
Eh, Sony went pretty hard with the PlayStation Mobile titles on the Vita before shutting it down altogether
It's not even too late. They could release a Vita 2 at any point.
they can hardly make any games for the ps5, what do they even have left to put on a vita 2? especially with how all their games are cinematic experiences nowadays. nothing thats just pure gameplay, which is exactly what you need for a handheld

I've had both. Prefer the 3000 just because its refresh rate is better, and the interlace actually works in its favor for emulation.
But CRT gays told me that interlacing makes sprites look better!

>ditched the godly XMB for...bubbles
It's not their fault
yup
not having banger games like this is pretty much the end for your console
morons will keep coping about some memory card bullshit but the industry was just way past handhelds.
>hurr durr bruh the SteamDeck is doing fine thoooo
emulator box, not a handheld. doesn't have tailormade games and never will. this
homie is literally emulating a PSOne game and it's not even the good one (RE3)
vita is still very much alive

+Two sticks
-Only 2 shoulder buttons
-High res widescreen
-Back touchpad that is always getting pressed
-Games dim screen
-Core locked to os
-Ridiculous amount of ram locked to os
-Vram and system ram are again seperate, sony didn't learn from the nogamesstation tripple
-Propriatry memory card with shit read/write rate
-Memory card has low storage and costs loads
-Web browser only has 4 tabs
-Can't really use it as a phone
-Have to reformat to use another login/only 2 logins per card, logins don't share games
-Need a workaround adapter to be able to charge it while using it
It sucked, but I brought 2. Burn in is worth it for led. Peace Walker and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite machine.
Breath of Fire IV was nice on it.
I think I was able to charge while using it just fine
Maybe you needed a little usb in between to charge it using a battery pack. Thanks for the correction.
You need that to ensure charging with 3rd party chargers. I had to get one too, wouldn't charge from my phone brick otherwise.
If you have one here is a site for it:

Sony barely tried to take advantage of its power to bring console tier gaming to a portable device like the Switch wound up being. You saw glimpses of it at the start but they immediately gave up and it basically became a portable pedophile weeb device.
I would have been happy with a 1:1 low res killzone 2 multiplayer port.
Aparently you can overclock it :))
But it might blow up the battery. That happened on my overclocked phone. Probably ok for vita. An extra 5fps is a massive difference.
>play PSX/PS2 game on Vita
>legitimately purchased on the Snoy store
>keep pushing the touchscreen in the back by accident
>weird shit happens in my game
>turn off touch screen
>can't play game because no key rebind functionality
Frick the Vita and frick Vita apologists
Buy the case with triggers.
I bought a Steam Deck :')
It was gong to launch at the same price as the floundering 3DS,and then Nintendo cut the 3DS price by like $50.
Nintendo probably had some saboteurs in high places. Corporate warfare is no joke.
>it's literally perfect
Not without any games its not. Someday you morons will learn that games made a console good, not the other way around.
Proprietary memory cards, proprietary media playback (massive step back from the PS3) and lack of a killer app. Sony should have tried to nail down a Monster Hunter game from capcom.
Fortunately, custom firmware has unlocked it's latent features and made it the perfect legacy handheld system.
I remember going to my local EB Games and they had a display model with Wipeout running and I thought "man the 3ds is fricking toast". Funny really.
SoA and the nu-sony audience killed the thing
Un ironically no games
It had hundreds of games though
western shitters killed it, and Sony
Expensive proprietary memory cards.
Not different enough from the PSP to make a shift seem exciting.
Not different enough from smart phones to seem cool to newcomers.
Games were rarely designed for a handheld experience.
