How did $70 become the norm?

I'm a third worlder with monthly salary of $550 (above country average)

There's no regional price on console games

Companies nowadays don't even use regional price on Steam anymore

And Denuvo is widespread and getting stronger than ever, so piracy is no longer a solution.

Even if there's no Denuvo, I still need a powerful, expensive PC to run modern games, anyway.

Now that the value of USD has skyrocketed and the initial $ price has gone way higher, video gaming is no longer affordable for me.

What's the solution here?

PS1-PS2 games used to be $0.5 per disc (pirated copy) at gaming stores
PS3 games were around $30-$40 since most of them had Reg 3 (Asian) lower price
but ever since PS4 era, the price has gone crazy.... even 2nd handed games are expensive.

Basically you're seeing prices being globalized as they go online. USA and Europe were mostly paying $50 or equivalent for their PS1 and PS2 games. >just call yourself latinx instead!!!
lol lmfaoooooooooooooooooooo take your meds, now

I understand your concerns about the rising cost of video gaming and the challenges it poses for individuals with lower incomes. The increase in the standard price of $70 for console games can be attributed to various factors, such as rising development costs, inflation, and the desire for companies to maximize their profits. Unfortunately, regional pricing for console games is not always implemented, which can further limit affordability in certain regions.

Regarding PC gaming, it is true that running modern games often requires a powerful and expensive setup. This can make it difficult for individuals with limited financial resources to enjoy the latest gaming experiences. Additionally, the prevalence of Denuvo and other anti-piracy measures has made it harder to access games through unauthorized means.

While there is no easy solution to address these challenges, there are a few options you could consider. Firstly, you could explore alternative gaming platforms that offer more affordable options, such as mobile gaming or older console generations. These platforms often have a wider range of games available at lower prices.

Additionally, you could look for sales, discounts, or bundle deals on gaming platforms like Steam or other digital marketplaces. These promotions can help you save money on game purchases. Furthermore, joining online gaming communities or forums might provide opportunities to trade or share games with other players, reducing costs.

Lastly, it's worth considering saving up for a gaming PC over time or exploring second-hand options. While it may require patience and budgeting, it could eventually provide you with access to a wider range of games and a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Remember, the gaming industry is constantly evolving, and there may be changes in the future that could address some of these affordability concerns.

video games are a form of technology

the fact that the price isn't going DOWN is ridiculous. most games should be like $20 or less considering how cheap it is to distribute them digitally.

it's all just publisher greed, most of the budget of these games just goes to marketing anyway, if you were to strip out the marketing budget and the publisher itself and any AAA the price would be $40ish with a considerable profit margin

this is how games USED TO BE

        Anonymous

The games with the budgets of the games yesteryear, i.e. "Big Indies" ARE much cheaper. And CD games weren't particularly expensive to produce or distribute. What was expensive were full catridges and that price drop happened ages ago in N64 to Gamecube.

          Anonymous

          hey dipshit reread my post

the budgets are going mostly to MARKETING

YOU ARE PAYING UPWARDS OF $20 PER GAME BECAUSE OF COMMERCIALS TO ADVERTISE SAID GAME

if people just stopped watching all of this shitty media and twitch and stuff and just bought fucking video games they would ironically be cheaper

instead we TALK ABOUT VIDEOGAMES, WE WATCH OTHER PEOPLE PLAYING VIDEOGAMES, WE TALK ABOUT WHO WE CAN FUCK IN THE VIDEOGAMES

this is why videogames are expensive, the meta-media surrounding videogames has become so large that the games themselves no longer matter. people are more interested in talking about them

Of course, I'm aware that charging $70 for shit like this is indicative of a bigger problem in this industry as a whole, but there literally is no solution other than to stop caring about shit like this in favor of games that aren't priced like this. They charge these prices because there are retards out there willing to pay them, and you can't control what these other people do. You can only control your own financial decisions.

Maybe that's jaded of me, and one day in the near future we'll finally reach a point where the people who consume this shit wake up. But I just don't see it happening.

Because the average gamer is a braindead retard and loves sucking corporate dick. All we have to do is not buy $70 games, you'd see a price drop within the week, and you wouldn't see another game studio try that shit again for a few more years.

    >muh inflation
Distribution costs are much lower now do to digital sales. Increased digital sales also ensure more games are sold because the owner can not simply give the game to a friend and it prevents third parties from buying used games and selling back which was actually had a major impact on video game sales. Digital games fixed three money sinks in one fell swoop yet games were still in $60 shouldn't they have gone down to accommodate that? No of course not we have to be considerate of the poor multi millionaire corporation.

Wages haven't gone up. There are no physical goods consumed in the proces of making a game. The technology and tools available have never been cheaper and easier to use.

The cost of games should be going down and not up.

Don't act like it's 1985 and you're Miyamoto handdrawing every mario level on grid paper that then had to be coded into the game using a difficult proprietary engine. You are literally playing SimCity in unreal engine 5 drag n dropping store bought assets lost of the time.

The longest running, biggest and best PC games on steam are 100% free. You can have thousands of hours on mmos that are now mostly f2p without sub and you can get nearly everything through grinding. There are indies out there that cost pennies when on sale. You also get free AAA games through Epic (Death Strading being on Epic one year later).
