How did mario and rabbids go from being the laughingstock of the mario series when first revealed to the last bastion of mario rpgs?
>Mario + reddit
Go back

Lucy is so tight and hot bros
>fun game = reddit
I bet you’ve never even played a video game in your life.
>RPG
How? Is a tactics game.
The competition took themselves out leaving them winner default.
Paper Mario shit itself three times in a row after the Wii
Mario and Luigi died
Super Mario RPG only had one entry
And most importantly, Mario Rabbids dabbed on the naysayers by actually being good
>can't even bring up SMRPG without people sperging about geno
I just want my damn rpg back damnit
why did they put yoshi in the art like he was an actually important character
Probably a cut character
I don’t know, I wish he was a party member
>And most importantly, Mario Rabbids dabbed on the naysayers by actually being good
Pretty much this, the game has no right being as good as it is and is legitimately one of the best games on the Switch.
>Paper Mario shit itself three times in a row after the Wii
Supergay cope, TOK was Paper Mario 3
Paper mario was already shitting itself on the wii
Because nincels eat every garbage Nintendo feeds them
I have no idea how a Nintendo + Ubisoft game turned out so good
Well, AlphaDream went bankrupt due to years of debt and Tanabe killed Paper Mario by firmly establishing in interviews that it would never return to the traditional format.
>Tanabe killed Paper Mario by firmly establishing in interviews that it would never return to the traditional format.
Yes. Because in interviews he states he hates rpgs.
Everyone who played it liked the first game, what are you even smoking? It's a solid tactics game.
I know, it is a good game, but admittedly, when first revealed, everyone either thought it was just a joke or that it was going to be a dumpster fire, everyone was surprised as to how good it was, and keep in mind, during the time it released, nintendo seemed to be bringing the mario games back to more of what the fans wanted, like people assumed we were going to finally get a new paper mario like the old games and another mario and luigi, but then we got origami king instead and mario and luigi is dead, leaving only mario and rabbids
I think OP is referring to before it was revealed when people were judging it on name alone (Mario+Rabbids) due leaks, if believing it at all.
Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to
The game actually ended up great to the point where it made the Rabbids somewhat likable to even skeptics. Proves how much execution matters.
Is the first one really that good and worth it? it is 15usd right now and the only strategy RPG I've played like that is Disgaea I guess.
15 bucks for a Mario game, of course it's worth it.
Its more like XCOM than Disgeae.
Hummm, all I have played on Xcom was like an hour or two on ps3 but I didn't like the art style and performance wasn't the best, I kinda liked it tho
It's not like Disgaea at all, it's X-COM style with less accuracy bullshit. There's a heavy focus on movement, characters can dash through enemies, jump of friendlies for better positioning and use different abilities.
it's a damn good game and the DLC campaign with DK is also worth getting if it doesn't come bundled in
Do you level up in mario rabbids
there's a skill tree but you can reset it to try different combinations at will
And how do you get points for your skill tree
completing levels and doing extra objectives in them.
in the first game not really, you get points after each battle to spend on a characters skill tree
they're adding normal levels to the sequel
It's a fricking steal at $15. although it goes on sale for that price often, so if you're not 100% sure you can wait for the next sale.
I've been on that 15usd fence forever, I really want it but man I just can't stand rabbids, I don't even particularly hate minions but those fricking animals...
>SMPRG was a one-off thing, forever tainted by smashhomosexuals
>paper mario went from a highlight of the entire mario franchise to a soulless husk of what once was
>alphadream is dead, and M&L alongside it
And yet, the raving fricking rabbids crossover turns out to be great, to the point of receiving a sequel. Really is a fricking bleak timeline when the rabbids are the last spark of hope for mario RPGs.
>alphadream is dead, and M&L alongside it
>M&L alongside it
Lol
There's inside talks that ISIS got the remaining alumni and is handling M&L as the Mario RPG series for now on. We don't know what's their first project, but it's clear they're going to prepare to do more console Mario RPG projects in the future.
This is a something that hasn't fruited yet but expect other insiders, like Jeff Grubb and Zippo, to talk about it publicly at some point.
>IS doing more console mario RPGs in the future
>IS (meaning Tanabe)
we're fricked aren't we. even if they do make them they'll intentionally make them shit just to prove they were right that Mario RPGs are bad.
the problem isn't Tanabe, but IS for not telling him to stuff it.
In fact, the whole team was on board with what happened to Paper Mario.
>if alpha dream dies Mario & Luigi dies
>even though the M&L name/IP is solely held by nintendo along with all unique characters
Bowsers inside story "HD" was in 2019.
The AD staff that was hired DESPERATELY needtraining in hd 3d game and asset design.
Expect the next game between 2024-26.
because it had development resources
I thought mario and rabbids was just xcom
I don't really consider xcom an rpg.
the first game, sure
but the second one is basically a mix of the first game and a mario RPG, they even took the overworlds straight from SMRPG/Paper Mario
there's even EXP now
I feel like we’re gonna get to a point where mario and rabbids feels more like classic paper mario than actual paper mario does
Mario and rabbids is a strategy rpg
they got rid of the Grid tactics .. fricking dropped
>Actually creative gimmicks for a tactics games
>Next Level Games-tier animations
>Has difficulty unlike most Nintendo RPGs
What's not to love
True
it is good because it is not traditional rpg trash but tactics instead which is superior
Worst part of the first game is being forced to have at least 1 rabbid and 1 non-rabbid on the team at all times. can't do a full team of just rabbids or just mario characters.
Well the sequel is at least removing mandatory Mario. Still no shots with only one or the other, and at minimum I'm pretty certain you'll still need at least one Rabbid.
Because it somehow ended up being an actually good game.
the first game was a fun babby xcom
I just hope to fricking god this lets me just use mario characters and ignore the fricking rabbids entirely
Because todds have no standards. Not only is the game a watered down xcom with le wacky humor it's also a buggy mess. Absolute waste of your time unless you're 8 years old
>watered down
lol
It's better, certainly a lot fricking better than Chimera Squad.
>laughingstock
it was never a laughingstock though, people were on board the moment they heard "Mario XCOM". Then it came out and people found out it was better than XCOM because it didn't fall for the "procedurally generated" meme.
>playable Bowser
Fixing the shit roster in a plus.
And unlike origami king, he’ll probably be a party member for more than 15 minutes
According to the leak, it seems Mario and Bowser will have a special tag team attack.
tfw want to play but no switch
Just emulate it.
WOOOOOOOOOOOH HYPE
So I just started the DK DLC and I'm confused on pic related. Like, is the idea that the island the DLC is on is a pocket dimension that was made during the event at the start of the game and some of the rabbids ended up there, as well as a DK toy that turned into DK somehow? Like, based on some of the dialogue, I'm guessing it's not the real DK since it all takes place in another dimension. It's weird because it doesn't imply this with the Mushroom Kingdom in the main game since we clearly see the world before the rift appears, which means it existed beforehand.
I always assumed the main game was also in a pocket dimension and that the DLC just follows the same logic (Mario/DK gets sucked into a portal along with stuff from their respective worlds, and it all gets deposited into a vaguely similar version of it). Rabbid Cranky was formed in the same way as the other Rabbid heroes, but since he (and all the DK merchandise) was in the basement, he was taken to a different dimension, which is where DK was also taken from DK Island.
That makes sense. If I had to guess, they probably had to make it a separate dimension from the actual Mario games.
Idk, I love this game, but I sort of wish there was some explanations on some parts. Like Beep-o, he went from a digital ai thing to a physical robot with ears. Did he get fused with a Rabbid at some point? If so, how? Or was it a side effect of a Rabbid fusing with the headset?
Rabbids have such hideously ugly designs.
Literally the only reason this sold was because of Mario.
Rabbids killed Rayman and his temporary revival was a game without them.
>the last bastion of mario rpgs
lolno. i hate the rabbids and modern day nintendo so much it's unreal (yes i am also a rayman enjoyer)
