How did Nintendo manage to make such fun and meaningful underwater controls to then lock them behind a scarce and obscure power-up, and never return them to any following game?
Do they just want water levels to feel like a slow floaty mess?

Like in what following games? There's only World. You're acting like they made 10 more 2D Marios afterwards
Why does it matter that it's 2D? NEW SMB plays the same
The frog is from 3. World doesn't have cool powerups because it was a fugly mess rushed out to compete with sonic
>You're acting like they made 10 more 2D Marios afterwards
If we're talking about 2d GAMEPLAY, than it's worth mentioning that NSMB has 7 installments.
"World" makes 8.
Super Mario Land 1 and 2 make 10.
It is a worthwhile question, why they never went back to such fluid underwater motion, even in Wario Land games.
>floaty
wtf that even means?
>wtf that even means?
You have to be 18 to post here.
>meaningful
Seriously though, you need some follow through at all for this sort of rhetorical approach lol I'm actually curious.
The deeper philosophical implications of the frog suit would be lost on a member of the plebian classes
i always found it odd how scarce a lot of the powerups are. feels like the frog suit, hammer bros suit, and tanuki suit couldve been used in 1 or 2 more levels. oh and the shoe.
Are there any rom hack with a bunch of levels based of these power-up?
>Are there any rom hack with a bunch of levels based of these power-up?
I'll settle for a game genie code that replaces all mushrooms with the frog suit and all flowers with the hammer bros suit.
The worst is the kuribo shoe, literally in one level.
If you were a real frog suit fan youd get the GBA version and scan the frog suit ecard and use it in every level
>scarce
I always end up getting them. They are pretty much guaranteed from the hidden mushroom house in world 2.
>meaningful
What meaning did the SMB3 frog suit convey to you, anon?
That swimming with the D-pad and using A to swim faster is a much better mechanic that just an abysmally slow imitation of on-ground movement that insists upon itself.
i see what you mean but in that level in particular they're more of a hindrance, easy to accidently swim into a jellyfish with the autoscrolling
Wii has a penguin suit that speeds up swimming.
smw has the best swimming controls in any game ever created
It sucks.
I'm glad that modern platfomers like Rayman Legends/DKC Tropical Freeze/ Mario Wonder (dolphin badge) put that style of swimming to rest.
You can ask the same question with Zora swimming in Majora's Mask.
one of several reasons im not found on mario 3
>annoying soundtrack
>excessive autoscrolling levels
>repetious boss fights
>cool power-ups that you only get to use a couple times in the whole game
>the mini-game sucks ass
even the art style turns me off compared to mario world
>one of several reasons im not found on mario 3
It's not a goddamn MMO you fucking assclown.
