Both of these and in general, kids are more interested in PC's than actual gaming consoles. Friends' children as well as my own nephews want PC over console, since they have versions of games you can't get on consoles, or mods that you can't get on them either. People around my age, have also shifted to PC and usually have a Switch for smaller games/exclusives.

It was in the span of about 5-10 years. 10 years ago PC stopped being a joke, 5 years ago it started getting almost all the games day one. And that's all there was to it, games.
This was a consequence of two things: Valve's efforts and consoles becoming locked-down PCs allowing for easier multiplatform development.

Consoles hit diminishing returns and generational leaps became smaller, allowing any 6+ year old gaming build to perform just as good or better than current gen consoles, therefore creating a bigger playerbase due to not being locked out of games by the specs.

While the leap in graphics is smaller, and half of the current gen games look like PS4 games, you still need a PC three times as strong as the one you had in the PS4 days in order to run them at acceptable specs.

Literally this. It's much much harder to set up and start streaming on a console than on PC, so the vast majority of streamers are on PC primarily. Zoomers love their ecelebs and want to play the same games they do on the same platform they do, so they all want to be on PC. It's that simple. Sony and Microsoft fricked up hard by not making streaming as accessible as possible on consoles.

    It goes way WAAAY back
You see consoles(as in the average user) were always more advanced than PCs for gaming up until the late 2000s.
High end users have always had more advanced hardware(except the 1st-2nd year of a console release) but until the mid-late 90s it was all hardware no gaems(except the occasional Doomclone and autism simulator calculator and movie games)
Once consoles stopped innovating hardware in the early 2010s with the PS4
And consoles stopped having tons of exclusives in the 2020s with the PS5
It was all over from consoles.
Console gaming died in the late 2000s.

crysis ran pretty well on my 9600gt at 1440x900. then maxed out on gtx460, the problem was early quad cores didn't have enough single core performance and the game was built for dual cores, hence drops under 60 even on 2010s hardware.

Other than first party titles, the vast majority of console games made it to the various PC platforms going back to the 80s. I had games like TMNT, Tag Team Pro Wrestling, and other stuff on my Apple II and my IBM PC early on; and even stuff like Mortal Kombat had solid PC versions (the only port with arcade-accurate graphics) as the times changed. Even PC games like Sierra and Lucasarts stuff were getting console versions to test the waters (but didn't sell as well as console to PC ports).

Because PCs have gotten powerful enough to play 99.9% of games on middle of the road hardware, and it has pretty much every game ever made on the platform. Plus there’s native Xbox controller support so console gamers won’t even miss the comfort of a controller. Now there’s tons of tutorials about builds and how to put them together too. The layman has enough information to make himself a decent rig

Maybe people are waking up to how much better of a deal it is. My GTX 1060 and Ryzen 5 has lasted for 2 console generations now.

Microsoft and Sony chose convenience and short-term profits starting with the 8th gen and it will end up making their console hardware obsolete long-term. After the 10th gen, they're either going to crawl into Nintendo's hybrid/handheld market or go 3rd party because the traditional console space is going to be fricked into irrelevancy by then.

That's literally what a PC is. In fact I don't even turn mine off. I literally just lay in bed, turn on the monitor and pull it in front of my face, then double click the .exe and start the game. How is that worse than turning on the PS5, waiting 5 minutes for the logos to play, then loading up the game slowly? Consoles are the absolute worst man. It's only the "all my friends have one, I should have one too" thing that made it popular.

You can cope with this but there are tons of little operating system tweaks you have to do to make a PC even remotely close to as comfortable as a console. Having your gaming controller be able to turn on the thing is a technical journey in of itself.

The console market specifically the 360 era is why. Consoles were doing really well at that time but their market life lasted an extremely long time and people started looking elsewhere for new entertainment. Pc was easily able to handle better gaming experiences at a lower price and the console wars started looking gaytarded. Pc master race was truly born then. Consoles played catchup as they pushed out overpriced weak and sometimes scarce product, all while playing catchup to pc. Xboxs sucked and werent on even on pc, Sony consoles were rare and overpriced and Nintendo was happy with weak handhelds and did good. All while they spent more money on marketing than their actually products. They did it to themselves. Thus we have pc master race with indie games.

Gotta agree here. Nintendo can sell their games at full price because they have control over their own ecosystem. When you expose them to the PC platform, things get iffy. People ask why you have to pay 60 dollars for a gamecube port, when you could just emulate the original for free. It gets a little weird.

In case this isn't a moronic platform wars thread, I'll give you a serious answer: Dark Souls.
Yes, Dark Souls. After years of Japanese devs ignoring PC, From made their shitty port of DS. It sold well, so other studios decided to try: Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, Dragon's Dogma...
And soon pretty much every new Japanese game, including console exclusives (and excluding Nintendo, of course) was ported to PC a year after release, then half a year, then a month, and now day 1.
Perhaps if it wasn't Dark Souls, it would be something else just a bit later. But yes, I believe it was the first step.

, which are limited by who gets invited and who accepts, 41.55% of Steam users have a GPU more powerful than that of a PS5 if a 2070 is used as a benchmark (which it shouldn't, as people with lesser cards down to the 900 series can regularly run at higher resolutions, settings, and framerates than the PS5 does. It's a case by case thing that still benefits the PC heavily).
