Basically, I loved it as a kid, got it for my 7th birthday with a snes. But it's so fucking simple and chonkie. I only ever play it for the last stretch of star road, which you really only need to beat a few levels to get there. I don't remember the last time I went past that fucking dolphin level to get 100 1ups og style. I love 1/2/3 though and sml 1/2. It's just very dumbed downed and too kid friendly for the most part, beginning of Bing bing wahoo aesthetic. Though I enjoyed Mario vs donkey more than every Mario game besides donkey Kong 94. If they didn't completely lemmingformerize MvDK it could have been a template for other Nintendo franchises. Imagine, if you will, sisters ... A Mario vs donkey kong style game with link chasing after ganon through similar but appropriate puzzle levels. Now do that for Metroid and megaman and Castlevania and etc... Could be a fantastic compilation of 10 worlds with with 25 levels each. Each world being a different IP.
It's flawless except for the fact that it presents practically zero challenge and between Super Mario 64 and the NES era it's practically irrelevant in comparison.
I strongly advice doing a capeless run. the game really changes for better this way. the levels are pretty cleverly designed if you don't cheese them with cape.

>it presents practically zero challenge
That makes it bad overall. Many SNES games suffer from this problem like Super Metroid or alttp but the ones that don't remain GOATs in their series.
OK, real question though: why in the FUCK does Mario move SO SLOWLY between levels? I'm not even exaggerating, to go through 1 world you need like a whole minute of walking.
Honestly this is the one Mario game I'm willing to go back to again and again. But I do agree that in comparison to other Mario games before Mario 64, on its own it becomes stale due to it's easy difficulty save for the Special Zone.
However, I would also make the argument that because it's one of the most hacked games, there are ways to still enjoy the game for it's mechanics and, thanks to several people have managed to make it have a second life of sorts that has lasted for years on end. Hence why we have kaizo mario hacks and several other original hacks that are becoming a bit more widespread because some of the mechanics and how they were handled have created a meta of sorts.
There's still charm to Super Mario World but if you want to get the most out of it's mechanics you won't find it from the the original game. Otherwise you might be able to play it just to chill out once you've beaten it a certain number of times. Despite it's faults I still love the game that said.

It's still piss easy. What next you're going to suggest we try those glitchfest 5 min runs?
It's almost like it's a kid's game made for a kid's console in the 1990s or something, weird.
What argument are you actually trying to make?
I don't think no yoshi + no cape run is much harder or easier than SMB3. what did you expect anyway? it's Mario after all.
But there are levels that can only be done with power ups.
95 out of 96 exits can be gotten without cape. donut ghost house is the only one that needs it afaik

It was a pack in game, it was never meant to be a heavy hitter.
Boy, I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.
they were gay
he can go wherever he wants actually, he doesn't have to color in the lines like baby mario. it's his world after all, (you)'re just playing in it.
The evidence that this game is massively overrated piles up on a daily basis. Thank fucking god.
Your unpopular opinion will never matter.
“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
That quote was partially inspired by this visual bug, according to an interview with Famitsu magazine, so you’re not wrong anon.
A lot of Super Mario World low effort seethe threads lately.
Reminds me how it good it is. May replay soon.
still best game in the entire system
one of Ganker obsessions to be the only place where SMW is "contended"
Why can’t you accept that I didn’t talk about all Mario games?
OK, real question though: why in the FUCK does Mario move SO SLOWLY between levels? I'm not even exaggerating, to go through 1 world you need like a whole minute of walking.
For me it’s cape and blue Yoshi on every level that can be played with that combo.
Is this what you have to worry about in your life?
Had my mom return the game as soon as I noticed this
lucky, mine wouldn't let me return the system "since it was my brother's too" so I took it outside and buried it in the mud
It's ok, I'm working on a romhack right now to fix this. I simply need to figure out how to import the rom into lunar magic.
Don't do it. If you fix SMW, then I won't be able to tell people on the internet that it's a bad game.
