How did they do it?

How did a console with no games sell tens of millions of units?
Seriously did people just expect the console to have games or something, it didn't even have a single launch title.
Even the damn Xbox at least had some shitty Forza game to launch with.

Multi platform games are games and no one beside genetic dead end virgins care about PC

most people play multiplatforms and it's fine machine for that. if there are exclusives then that's just plus. outside of nintendo, people don't generally buy console for only exclusives

I can understand forgetting when shitposting on Ganker, but surely when you sit back and think objectively you'd realize most people don't care about how exclusive something is.

      Fifa and gta.

Multiplats exist yes but why would you play them on the inferior and more expensive machine?
The Series X is an objectively better platform for multiplats in every single way, so the only thing Sony has going for them is exclusives and there is a whopping 4 games 2 of which are remakes in 3 years that they have managed to put out. Xbox managed to do 3x that in the same time.

Series X has significantly less games because Japan keeps ignoring it

What games has Japan even made in recent years, there's 2 fromsoft games 1 of which is on everything. There's Crapcum games that are on everything, there's nintendo games that are on Nintendo shit, then you have some Bandai-Namco garbage that is released on literally whatever the frick they feel like. No one else is even trying to make games I guess you have Sega who generally go with anyone but Sony when they can, and Square Enix who are barely even a game company, much like Konami.

I literally do not know of a single multiplat that performs better on XSX. As in commercially or technically, PS beats it on both fronts.

Most games run better on PS5 e.g. Elden Ring. Online on Xbox is dead for anything but CoD.
PS5 is objectively the better console even if you never play Snoy exclusives.

sony has a crossplay tax that works like a virtuous cycle for them and a vicious cycle for the other companies (if your game is the biggest on PS you'll either let it remain that way or pay to see it otherwise)

The average "gamer" plays one or two games. Why do you think used consoles always have a copy of Fifa whatever or some Hockey game bundled in with a controller that looks like it's never been used?

There's a whole audience of people who buy the Playstation because it's the Playstation, and they want a box to Call of Duty on.
Sony really does not need games. Their core audience is that brainless and undiscerning.

Because it is the target platform for all non-Nintendo games that matter, and even gets ports of games designed for PC like Pathfinder, Baldur's Gate, etc.

    The competition is:
    > Nintendo
Which everyone buys since they have the only other games that matter
    > Xbox Series consoles
Which just provides a great service to get games for cheap but plays them worse than PlayStation
    > Windows PC
Which provides the most complete game service in the form of Steam and Game Pass, but practically deals only in PC ports of Xbox ports of PlayStation games and ultra niche and often unfinished Indie games.

    It's not hard.

If you buy a good PC, you also then have a good PC, which can be used for things other than playing the latest games, so that seems an obvious choice to me. Can your PS5 emulate consoles up to the 7th gen? Probably not. Can you get into all kinds of creative hobbies with it? Not really.

I have a good PC for work that my job supplied me with, a 5 year old laptop that I use for my hobbies, and consoles that I use for gaming.

The idea that a regular person would enjoy working, playing and performing other hobbies all on one PC is one that originated on message boards, not in the real world.

Ganker and most people underestimate normies and the power of Instagram
PS5 is a status symbols to poor people, same as iPhones
You NEED to upload a story of you with your PS5 controller in order to be COOL and VIBIN
    Videogames are COOL these days
All my normie friends own EVERY single FIFA game since PS4 released, all of them, they buy one every year like their life was on the line, play the game a few days and then never use their consoles EVER
Companies don't care about nerds or people who play videogames
They want normies, they never complain, they buy, play a few hours then forget about it, they don't go to forums, twitter or whatever to complain

GOW: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon Souls, Destruction All Stars, Astro's Playroom, Spider-Man 2. None of these games are on PC and other games like Returnal, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Sackboy a Big Adventure, Deathloop, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Last of Us Part 1 were timed exclusive. That's 2 years of games

Most hardcore gamers have at least a PlayStation and Nintendo console since that covers most notable releases.
PC is only for casual players, players who really enjoy very niche indie games, who have to resort to piracy to play console games, or who live in countries where consoles are not priced according to the average cost of living.

They have FIFA, COD and Fortnite, The only reason people chose it over Xbox is that Sony hast the AAA market by the balls with their "mature cinematic experiences" so it's the console of choice for normies. Xbox might have a chance to change the landscape a little bit by releasing some actual good games but so far the only good things they did were AA titles with not that much depth. They're never gonna catch up to the PS5 but they might start turning some heads if Starfield releases in a complete state and it's slightly fun. They just need a win to prove they can still compete in the AAA market.

You buy a switch and ps5/pc for an entirely different market of games, Xbox is totally irrelevant so it's really just PC vs PS5, with most people buying a Switch for the Nintendo games. You don't buy a switch for multiplat. Problem is all of the PC releases of multiplat games have been fumbled and unoptimized even if you have a 4080 or 4090, whereas it's guaranteed to work on the PS5 because there's only one model to be tested on. If you aren't playing PC-specific games, you're better off playing on PS5. My friend refunded Hogwarts and Elden Ring because the games ran worse on his computer than his wife's PS5.

All of you keep saying it has no games yet it has plenty. I can play my JRPGs and fighting games, normie can play their sports games, can play the entire PS4 library with better loading times and visuals, still getting a decent amount of exclusives with more on the way. Couldn’t be happier

Sony could make a PS6 with literally no games at all for the entire generation and it would still sell by the truckloads (and still be an Xbox console if they even made one). Brand recognition isnt even the right word for it.

People have their digital libraries on Playstation. As long as it continues to have backwards compatibility with those games, people will keep buying Playstation. It's no different from Steamgays that refuse to use any other storefront. Especially when the most popular games are live service titles from a previous generation, we've reached the point where even consolegays are upgrading their hardware for minimal gains on games that do not need it, just like how PCgays would buy a $1000 graphics card and play WoW, Minecraft, etc.

          Anonymous

It doesn't have actual backwards compatibility though. You can't play PS3 games natively on the PS5 hardware, you can only stream them over cloud and you have to pay a subscription fee for that.

            Anonymous

It has PS4 backwards compatibility for digital games and that's enough because most consumers were not building digital libraries on consoles during the PS3 generation. Xbox users are a bit of a different story due to XBLA but most still bought physical discs for actual games. Which is why the SeX has more appeal than the SeS to long time Xbox fans.

The Series consoles having backwards compatiblity is good for people that bought an Xbone in the same way. However, for those that didn't, which is the majority of gamers, then yeah they're buying a PS5 so they can continue to play Fortnite, Apex, or Warzone where all their friends play those because Mattrick ruined the Xbox brand forever and everyone bought a PS4 instead. Phil said it himself, Xbox lost the generation that they could not afford to lose. There is no coming back from this for Microsoft, that is why they're pivoting to Game Pass and trying to make cloud streaming work. Consumers are entrenched in the Playstation ecosystem like they are with Steam. It doesn't matter what Epic does, Epic will never win. The same is true with Xbox, they need gaming to go through such a huge revamp that digital libraries no longer matter to make a comeback.

    >did people just expect the console to have games or something,

Yes. When PS3 came out i bought it without second thought. Having had a PS1 and PS2 there was no question in my mind the PS3 would keep the trend and deliver a lot of JRPGs, retro compatibility and whatnot. That never happened.

So when PS4 came out i decided "never again" and waited on it. I set the bar at 10 exclusives i couldn`t do without. Released titles this time, no empty promises. No Versus XIII or The last guardian ever again. It didn`t surprise me when it didn`t happen.

Literally all the games i cared for made it to PC and a lot i didn`t give a frick about made it too. Having been proved right i had no reasons to expect anything from the PS5 (though the situation is worse than anticipated) but i can understand those that did because at one time i was like that too.
