Starcraft was obviously inspired by Whammer, yet Whammer went back around and was even harder inspired by Starcraft to the point of ripping them off, although Starcraft itself just completely ripped off Starship Troopers, so ultimately Robert Heinlein's family should sue Whammer and Starcraft into oblivion for the blatant theft.

40k is more than the sum of its parts, parts that are extremely exaggerated versions of already existing sci-fi and fantasy concepts. I don't much care for the lore aspects of 40k but it has a shit ton of variety and wacky shit in it. It's the scale of it all that sets it apart from other franchises.

          >Farsight however does not believe that the Tau can survive without the Ethereals, he has not shared his theories with anyone as far as I know, because he fears that without the Ethereals the Tau will regress back to the time of the Mon'tau, when the Castes were on the brink of wiping each other out after countless wars.

honestly speaking they did a shit job with the whole "the Ethereals are evil" thing. Honestly, it wasn't shocking or jarring, it was just like... confusing? Their whole "grimdarkification" is just that the ethereals are now vaguely suspicious and have... mysterious potential mind control abilities. Maybe. But it's never been properly looked into or built upon. We were basically just handed a piece of paper saying
          >the Tau are no longer necessarily good guys anymore even though everyone else is worse but they specifically are no longer maybe as good and that is important for you to know
It was all very arbitrary and undermined the juxtaposition of the Tau against the rest of the galaxy. It doesn't help that like 95% of the "ethereals are evil" stuff is from the totally unbiased point of view of Imperials.

Necron MMO (or open world single player) where you slowly build up and customise your Necron. If this is too big of a scope, I'd like an in-depth Destroyer one, as they're basically infinitely customisable. I want to skim around while zapping noobs and further augment my Destroyer while dealing with the craziness that it brings. Especially fitting as Destroyers are generally like mercenaries so you're free to do what you want and help other 'cron.

Because none of their shit is remotely original, literally not one single thing and that's why they have to give moronic fricking names to
    everything now
    >space marines
a hundred antecedents for a generic idea
    >daemons
They didn't invent fricking demons moron
    >psykers
Just one of the many things they directly ripped from Dune

    >set in a hive city
GW stole it from Judge Dredd

    > half of the characters are just 40k knockoffsspace marines
So is half the cat and factions in WH40, GW stole the space marines concept from Starship troopers (recently they got dunked on in court for trying to wave their dick over the use of "space marine" on a sci-fi book), and dont get me started on the god emperor of mankind, Dune said they want it back.

    >namedropped the fricking WRAP
The wrap is used in Startrek and is a dimension filled with tacos.

    >we invented magic
    >we invented demons
    >we invented space travel
    >we invented psychic powers
are 40k fans the Hideo Kojima of /tg/?

Basically but i think OP is pondering why the company known to be extremely anal about "things they invented" has not thrown the cease and desist letter at the game.

ah, right, on this case it's probably because they'd be laughed out of court, like they were when they tried to say they had rights to "space marine."
Why do you think they made that moronic Adeptus Astartes, Immaterium, Astra Militarum shit? Because they can copyright THAT.

          Dont forget the aeldari.

Yeah, if they tried to claim the name "Eldar," the prosecution can quite literally open a Tolkien book and instantly smash their case to pieces.

Project Moon is a Korean company that can simply laugh and keep doing what they're already doing. If GW wants a fight it can go all the way over to Korea and try to argue their case with their courts.

It's the particular blend of all these things. GW didn't invent any of it, but if you copy them in a particular manner it comes off as a 40k copycat.

Well good thing PM feels more cyberpunk then anything. There isn't even any sort of religion. The closest thing is a cult that worships the concept of "fitting into your place in society" and some guys who hate prosthetics users

AT-43 is a better setting, and it barely got any development before it was abandoned.

if there's a setting that needs more love it's Infinity.

I got into tau purely because of the fire warrior's helmet design, frick the mechs lmao

nta but I never got the appeal of infinity, looks like the most generic sci fi stuff ever imo

cool dudes, hot babes, some of the freshest sculpts in the industry.

What are the magical girls of 40k?

adepta sororitas, although their power is Faith instead of Friendship

            fair, to each their own

I REALLY like the infantry design, but damn if it the insanely powerful vehicles aren't hilarious

Yeah the infantry kicks ass, have two squads of fire warriors, one breacher squad, and two pathfinders (one being my first kit, other being a kill team that I wanted to redo)
I would have called it quits, but I got my hands on a start collecting box, 7 old crisis suits for cheap, and a stormsurge
Drowning the opposition in "frick you damage" sounds fun

          Ugly.

Looking at these, I kind of what to get take some of these Infinity minis and kit bash them to a make Gue'Vesa. All you would need to do is replace their gun with a pulse carbine, slap one of the tau's big ass shoulder guard on in and give it the right color scheme. I think it would look pretty neat.

Frickers promised me blue pussy but all I got was globohomosexual in spaaace. Whatever, still better than imperium

The only way you'd get cool stuff like blueberry pussy is if your such an asset to the Tau that they'd be willing to make concessions to keep you around. Personally, if I was in such a position, I'd try to get my hands on one of them sexy mechs.
I really just want them to release a book written from the perspective of a Gue'Vesa. I think that would be interesting.

              >Main character is a recently defected IG, has justifiable reasons, bu still feels kind of guilty, struglles with his honest faith in big E
              >His sidekick is a gue'vesa from one of the human worlds in the tau empire, who never knew anything else and views imperium as completely fricked up
              >They fight 'nids together or some shit like that
              fund it

My biggest problem with minis is where the frick does a newcomer start that doesn't cost an arm and a leg just to get off the ground. What do you start with to see if the hobby is for you at all?

if you are interested in the big names like 40k, there are rules for low point games that you can play with a handful of dudes that you think are cool.
there are also starter kits with two squads and some beginner rules that you and a friend can go splits on.

if you just like minis in general then there are many low cost "skirmish" games like Malifaux to get in to, but you'll have to convince your friends to get some too or you'll have no one to play with.
generic historical minis like Napoleonic infantry are always cheap if you just want some dudes to paint. there are also a number of small indie mini producers you can track down and collect.

firstly you have to ask yourself what you're in for. contrary to what you generally hear there are people who just collect minis they find neat and paint them. they don't actually "play" the game.

You buy some dirt cheap stuff like some historical soldiers or some reaper bones or nolzur's D&D stuff, a 5 dollar can of generic rustoleum or regional equivalent home/automotive primer and some acrylic paints and see if you can stomach painting all of what you bought
