How did YOU feel about BW1 dex only having unovamon? Would you like to see it done again?

How did YOU feel about BW1 dex only having unovamon? Would you like to see it done again? Personally I thought going through a whole region where everything is unfamiliar was awesome.

I didn't mind it and I know I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't spoil the whole dex for myself. I think there should be a balance.. I would love to have 150 mons in a region again, but I also think they should through in a few old mons in each route that match the geography. Maybe have the old mons be super rare.

Yea, I like the idea of maybe a 80/20 split of new and old mons respectively. I think having a shit ton of new mons everywhere really helps a region feel unique and fun to explore. Like you're on uncharted lands or something

I enjoyed it (and prefer it to the alterative were new Pokémon are thrown the bus for gen 1 to take the spotlight again) but agree that they should have simply made the new mons the majority rather than have only new mons until the post game. Having such made but having no absolutely old mons made it too disconnected and forced them to make obvious expies to fill in for certain niches.

I really liked it, only being able to use new Pokémon gave me a lot of new favorites that I might not have used if the dex had old Pokémon too. It was the largest dex too so it was easy to make a team of 6 and I honestly believe if someone says otherwise they’re either lying to make an argument or are too damn picky

I liked it a lot. Gave a cool feeling like when I was 6 playing gen 1 all over again

I liked the idea but gen 5’s dex as a whole was so fricking ugly

Not a massive fan of Gen 5’s dex (even though it has some high highs), but BW limiting the dex to new mons was a solid idea for worldbuilding. The only time having a large amount of returning mon has made perfect sense was in GSC. Peppering regions with returning mon only serves to make the world feel smaller / artificial, especially when regions are supposed to be far apart.

That being said, I don’t have a huge issue with mon returning when it makes sense (Wingull seems like it’d be all over the place). Regional variants also add a little flavor to mon that otherwise shouldn’t be in a region.

I would love to have another region with 150 new Pokémon and a bunch of older Pokémon being available post game but with the games becoming larger in scale it’s probably best we get a mix of old and new

I'd be down for it, although I'd hope the Dex isn't filled with replacements for a lot of the regular stuff.
If the absolutely have to be in there, just add the few regulars in there.
No new Zubat, just slap the Zubat or maybe the Woobat in there for example.
Just minimize stuff like that and otherwise stick to new mons.

most of the pokemon are just moronic pointless reskins of older pokemon just so they can fill the same niches so no I don't want it again

I think it was great. The Unova mons are much more memorable to me, compared to gen 2 or gen 6 where I used a majority of old gen mons.

It was a good idea in theory. The issue was how many Unova mons were just clear expys of Kanto mons.

I always found this a weak argument because
      a. the sheer number of Unova Pokemon means you never have to use anything you consider an expy
      b. If you try hard enough you can consider anything an expy, a lot of Unova Pokemon people use to compare to Gen 1 Pokemon have nothing in common aside from the animal they're based off of and often behave nothing like the alleged counterpart in gameplay. I.e people like to compare Crustle and Parasect but Parasect was a frail bug/grass type best known for Spore and other status moves while Crustle is a tank turned bruiser with Shell Smash. Unless you're a giga autist who rages at all patterns then this isn't an issue

Without putting too much thought into it or looking it up, the Gigalith, Conkeldurr, Garbodor, and Swoobat lines and Sawk/Throh are pretty direct parallels. You don't have to squint to see that.

Out of your whole list the only ones that really register are Gigalith and Conkeldurr, and even then is only due to typing and evolution method, not design.
Garbodor and Swoobat is are much of an expy as Noibat or Swalot is.
Sawk/Throh are version exclusive counterparts which have existed in every game, guess Passiman/Oranguru are also Kanto copypastes.
Pic related, my favorite Kanto expy. See how stupid this is?

Lastly, like I said initially, if you feel all of those Pokemon are copies you still have 100+ Pokemon left to choose from.

        >. If you try hard enough you can consider anything an expy,
This. every single gen has expies to some degree mainly due to Game Freak repeating tropes. The gen that does this the least is Gen2 because Gen2 mons were intended to compliment and live along side Gen1 mons rather than take their place or upstage them
Notice how Gen2's "pikaclones" are related to Pikachu(Pichu) or a different type from Pikacu(Marill) to not step on Pikachu's toes
Or how Hoothoot is a nocturnal bird (implying) to compliment Pidgey being a diurnal bird
Or how Gen2 mons tend to be connected to unique mechanics introduced in Gen2 (swarms, time, of day, new evo items, or specific areas)
Or how the Bug types are specially species not done in Gen 1
Or how Tyranitar isn't a Dragon type since Dragonite serves as the Dragon
Or how Kanto Grass types are creepy carnivorous plants and mostly Poison type so all the Johto Grass type are happy flowers with none being Poison
Or how even the leaders everyone shits on for having stupid teams intentionally use types that no one in Kanto did

Too bad that it resulted in Gen2 mons being the least shilled, least valued, and least respected Pokemon in the franchise, because everyone, even TPC, just sees them as Kanto's lame weakling cousins instead of their own roster, to the point where the starters aren't considered good enough to be in the allowed in the Cool Mon's Club along with Gen1 and Gen 3 starters (not getting Megas, not being allowed in Galar, etc). Keep in mind that starters are usually the most shilled group of Pokemon.

Seriously, with how everyone shitposts out Johto "leaning on Kanto", and how Gen2 is treated overall, how the frick can anyone be upset for Gen5 for trying to avoid that fate.

Kino. Having to learn and adapt to new Pokemon was awesome. Some of my favourites in the series are from Gen 5

I would live full dex only with regional forms.

Not sure how to feel. On one hand, I usually go through a new game with only new mons or forms and it makes me more familiar with a regions mons, but I also like having more choice of favorites for playthroughs after the first run.

Great idea, but the first few routes have little variety. You start having more choices around the second gym, but the very beginning is a slog. I also dislike the very high levels of many evolutions that essentially relegates certain new Pokemon to the postgame.

Dumb considering it's pretty much been retconned away.
It won't happen in the remakes thanks to games like legends arceus.

How has it been retconned, moron?

I liked it a lot, it's part of why BW is my favorite gen. Every game should have 150 new pokemon.
That said, if game freak ever tries to do this again (which they won't since that would be trying) I hope they don't stick so closely to the formula. The idea that every unova pokemon is just a kanto expy is an exaggeration, but maybe the next "annoying cavedweller that inflicts status effects" pokemon can be a salamander or a harvestman instead of another bat.
