    >How do I into metal gear?
You pick the first game, and start playing them in release order.

    >never felt immersed
sounds kinda like (You) problem, or you don't care about story and cast. It is a linearly progressing epoch of a series.

      >don't care about story and cast
Yes. A game's story is secondary and should support gameplay. Any game that asks me to care outright tries my patience

        >A game's story is secondary and should support gameplay
That depends totally on the game. MGS is heavily a story- and character-driven saga, but it has always perfectly balanced between its cinematic and video game-y sides. Unlike just about any modern AAA trash, when you're PLAYING Metal Gear, you really are playing a bona fide game, with plenty of TECHNOLOGY and tactical options.

        >tries my patience
That just means that you are an ADHD instant-grat gay, and playing the wrong game.
Don't ever try Silent Hill saga.

          >you really are playing a bona fide game, with plenty of TECHNOLOGY and tactical options.
I can tell that Metal Gear games have quality game-play and mechanics.I just usually find their starting areas a bit disorganized as they tend to throw you right into the middle of a situation. I guess I prefer the narrative to be paced more gently. Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games lol

So now you're complaining that the games actually start too fast, and put you in the actual mission from the get go? And clearly some very light weight open-ended designs seem to confuse you.

              >complaining that the games actually start too fast
Yeah in a sense. Plus I didn't find the gameplay or visuals extremely compelling.

              >game that asks me to care outright tries my patience

              >they tend to throw you right into the middle of a situation. I guess I prefer the narrative to be paced more gently
So which is it? Too fast paced or too slow and trying your patience?

              >Too fast paced or too slow and trying your patience?
It's not exactly mutually exclusive. My first comment was what the game expects of you as far as interpreting the events of the story and how that effects how you play and interpret the events. Slow start doesn't mean that the game is cramming exposition down your throat.

Here's a fun answer no one else will give you: play the original 2 MSX games.
Obviously no cutscenes. They play very similar to the original NES Zelda, but with this 1970's/1980's operator coat of paint.
I'm assuming you've tried other games in the series and don't like them.
From playing the MSX games, if you next play Metal Gear Solid it's easy to see how MGS1 is almost exactly the same as the MSX games in terms of gameplay, but then you've got the cutscenes and production value the series starts to be known for.
If you don't like anime, you might like the MSX games, and won't click with much of the rest of the series.
Metal Gear Solid V, both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain proper are pretty good and also were an intentional effort by Kojima to go westaboo and tone down the anime aspects. Phantom Pain even makes "quiet" and letting your actions speak for you a story theme, and the "anime" aspects are cut way down from previous games.

I might enjoy that. Those games have a pretty cool look and the gameplay looks pretty satisfying. I'll download the roms tomorrow

You need to care for the story. The tacticool gameplay and cool details are much more appreciated when they are fleshing out a story you want to hear

It's moronic weebshit, of course it's not immersive. Just play Chaos Theory and black list (on hardest difficulty)

I like anime, and I like Metal Gear, but you've got to admit stuff like Ocelot being possessed by Liquid after receiving his hand as a transplant is pretty out there. To say nothing of the voice acting with gems like "We've managed to avoid drowing!"
And then you have stuff like this, which IS awesome but definitely is "anime" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hefzqpquWqM

Is there a mod that makes higher level key cards open lower level doors in metal gear 1? I cannot express how much I hated having to test each key card on a door until one of them worked.

        Anonymous

Idk about any mods, but gosh I don't remember having any trouble with this. As far as I remember the progression with the key cards is pretty linear, right?

Frick seeing a metal gear thread reminded me of some autist on YouTube I saw trying to say Twin Snakes was more canon than MGS1. Then the dude was acting like a major sperg in the comments when people called him out lmao.

Metal Gear 2 has pretty good progression with the key cards. Generally you'll just use your new keycard on whatever door you couldn't open previously. Metal gear 1 on the other hand is a bit of a crapshoot. Still kind of fun, but probably something I won't play again.

doesn't every door that uses a keycard have the number of the one it needs painted right on it?

Don't even think of it as a stealth game. If you go in expecting Thief, you'll just be disappointed.
