        >But make an actual stealth system
Try the GMDX mod for dude sex , it is imo what the game should have been.It adds mantling and a copy of Thief's sneak mechanic - but sneaking is a real challenge. Beat the game with only a few enemies ever seeing me.the rest were KOed

    >Testament of Adept 34501 "My name has been taken from me, a thing I need not anymore, and I have been christened Adept 34501. They have set me to keep a record of this place, to record a history of its comings and goings so that Those Who Rule might have the benefit of its knowledge... ...
Today saw the arrival of Agent Hermann. He is a simple thing, fitted to a dark purpose by forces he cannot understand. In a way, I feel pity for him - an emotion that I know will prevent my advancement beyond the Third Rank - but it is pity I feel nonetheless. He has spent most of his time below in the technology archive, staring at the ancient cross above his head. He burns with a hatred that I can feel, for himself and for someone else. Periodically he will receive holographic communications from Simons, after which his hatred burns all the brighter. I think it has burned away everything human in him, and only the metal holds him together anymore... " - Adept 34501, Order of the Night Sky, Third Rank

Ehh not really, stealth in this game feels like an afterthough since the AI is so braindead and quiet.

go 22 years back in time, or use dark magic to conpletely reshape the cultural context surrounding politics and game design in 2022 to be like how they were back in 2000. if you can't, then you're out of luck.

That's just stupid. If you focus on the core systems and keep a strong minimalist artstyle. One person could easily make a game like Deus Ex today. Unless of course you mean exactly the same game (same tone, same writing, same levels) then why even bother making it?

There was nothing wrong with MD gameplay-wise. So just do that, but with actually good writing, and don't carve up the game to make more money.

You need to have enough imagination to create an entire world setting and make it feel alive. That's the secret to any good immersive sim, you need actual passion not just in the story you're writing, but in the world you're creating too.
