How do I properly word gaming issues other than "lag" or "packet loss" in conversations?

How do I properly word gaming issues other than "lag" or "packet loss" in conversations? How do I sound like I know what I'm talking about in videogame terms so my ISP believes me?

Is this another “image not related” thread? Why did you post some random YouTube video as the image?
Secondly, those are not improper terms. Lag and packet loss , ping, latency, and stutter is all proper terminology. I prefer ping over latency simply because ping is older and latency wasn’t used as much before ping. If you have ANY issue whatsoever about your internet service then you should let your provider know what it is no matter what.
That is their job to listen to what you want out of your service.

You dont need to. just get more data. Run winmtr, get the exact loss % after running it for a few hours. Send them a screenshot if their customer service allows that.
At the very least the idiot tier 1 rep's eyes will gloss over and he will send you to tier 3

          Thank you!

When I was on the phone I asked how to get into the admin page via ip and the indian guy was all shocked and like most customers don't know you can do that

So I just let it run and that's all and then show them the page? Or do I show them the text output?

Thanks so much btw. The worst part about this is that I just moved in with someone and I think they had this issue since they got the ISP but were too ignorant to recognize it

            >show them the page? Or do I show them the text output?
This varies from ISP. If it goes that far it'll either be a copy/paste of the text or emailing a screenshot or something.
Hell they may even just do the test on their end and call you back the next day. Unfortunately a lot depends on the rep you get and their experience level.

Another point of information that could help is knowing if its intermittent all day, only at certain times of day, or a constant issue.
Certain times of day can mean your nearby node is overloaded because ISPs oversell their shit all the time and then punish US by putting in data caps and other bullshit.

Oh I should note that if you see packet loss on the very first hop that usually means it could be something local like bad modem, loose cords, something outside, etc.
And if a hop has 100% loss its most likely just refusing pings so its not really an issue.

Open CMD on your computer. Make sure it's the only device on the network / wired into the modem.

          Type "ping -n 500 google.com"
          Get results. Send to ISP.

The issue is that it's only sometimes, like once every 10 minutes for maybe 3 seconds I get MASSIVE packet loss and then it goes back to normal, I scheduled a tech today but they cancelled it for some reason so now I'm waiting until monday. I hate comcast

I am currently recording the winmtr page + in-game footage of Fortnite (it's very obvious when it's happening + it has an in-game packet loss % thing) so hopefully that will be enough, I feel gaslit because it felt like they acted like I didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned packet loss.

          Thank you!

I had this happen after a major flood in a differant state. I fixed it by using Mudfish VPN to reroute my connection to the game servers. Few months later shit must've been fixed cause I can game without the VPN. Also, it's not a normal VPN it's like a best way I can explain it is one of those lag reducing software. Check their website they might support Fortnite and you can try it for free for like 2gb worth of data or something.

the people who don't work in commercial know what they're talking about, if you show a technician a ping log showing massive ping spikes and loss over three seconds every 10 minutes he'll be convinced there's something incredibly wrong, 3 seconds of packet loss every 10 minutes is a legitimate eternity in stability terms

I'm a network admin and I had some issues with packet loss at home.
So I called the support line and was telling them about it and then I realized that the fricking morons that handle the phones know almost nothing about networking. You might as well say that your internet is slow or has shit connection because "packet loss" means frickall to them.

I ended up getting about 4 clips of it happening with in-game footage + winmtr footage, have replaced an ethernet cable and have a relatively new router, it's them and they're fricking sparkling wiggles

    >so my ISP believes me
I work for an ISP. None of this matters because consumers are moronic sheep who think ISPs have magic buttons that increase or decrease latency, and that them threatening to end their $40/mo. contract would somehow matter. Read up on how networks work and realize that the only way to reduce loss and interference is to move closer to the source, or pay millions of dollars to have them lay new cables/build new towers.

      >the only way to reduce loss and interference is to move closer to the source
Not necessarily. Sometimes it's an issue of poor network routing or actual bad connection.

If you truly were a technician for an ISP you would know that a connection having 3 seconds of packet loss every 5-10 minutes is a travesty of a connection and there's something seriously wrong somewhere.

Maybe hes a technician in some shithole where that is considered normal.
But the standard should be no packet loss at all.
