I randomly select the game and look up its latest Ganker thread on the archives and if the thread was negative I consider it worth playing, defending, and shilling.

I look at 2-5 seconds of gameplay. that's genuinely all it takes for me to know if a game is for me or not
in the rare circumstance that doesn't work, I skim through a longplay at ~5 different points and/or just hover through with the thumbnail preview cursor thing
if I'm still undecided, I'll read some reviews on backloggd or check the Ganker archive

basically what said but I tend to start playing the games myself
if it can't hook you in the intro it's garbage which is why I despise 4 homies in a row games

Where is the actual evidence that hello kitty likes apple pie? I always see it mentioned but no proof.

Do you need proof that she likes apple pie?
There's not a lot to dislike about apple pie, I guess it's unhealthy but that's about it.
        I personally prefer pumpkin pie.

i typically don't find out a game exists unless someone is comparing it to another game
if i know the other game and like the other game, and someone thinks there are enough similarities to compare them, then i might put it on a list of things to check out when i can't think of anything else i want to be doing

there's no system that works for everything but generally it's going through this and only moving forward if each answer is yes
    >is it a genre i like, or at least a genre i don't actively dislike?
    >does the gameplay you can find on youtube seem good or at least palatable?
    >is the artstyle acceptable, or does the game look like an utter eyesore? (think fallout: new vegas)
    >are the cutscenes, if there are any, filled with sincere dialogue or characters that aren't annoying or cringe?
    >is it on sale/is there going to be a sale sometime soon/is it cracked?
i play the game only if all of these are yes, unless it's something that looks so incredibly good that i'll make compromises

I look at speedruns and pros play it and see if it looks fun. Why would I watch IGN play something like Doom and DMC to form my opinion when it's not my first time playing video games? For story and chill games it's just important that the game looks good or cute but I don't play those that much.

      >i look at speedruns to see if it looks fun
do you speed run? speedrunning is often the least fun way to actually play a game.

I look at a video of gameplay and read reviews from players about why they didnt like it. If the majority of reasons people didnt like the game was not off putting to me ill maybe get the game.

For me it depends on the size of the women's breasts. If they are bigger than C cup, I lose my shit. I'm a big homosexual and feminist and big breasts is objectification. Objectification is bad because someone told me so.

Don't know about vidya, since I tend to know lots about the game before seeing cover art for the first time, but with anime it works with 100% efficiency, since everyone who isn't a brainlet can see correlation between cover and content after consuming this shit for years, don't even need IQ, just experience.

I want to add that if there is a discussion about the game, and the fans of the game used buzzwords to defend against a well-detailed legitimate criticism, then my willingness to play the game also decrease. The opposite is also true if shitposters only use buzzwords to shit on the game.

Read the store page to see the premise
Look at screenshots to see the art style
Watch trailers/gameplay to see it in action
See who the devs are, what else they've made
Determine if asking price seems worth it
