I hate lack virtues and afflliction system
    I hate relationship system.
I hate that I cannot have parties with multiple people in the same class.
I hate the waste of time that is seeing the wagon rolling.
I dislike that my boys Crusader and Houndmasters are not in.

I do not mind the roguelike approach and the new enemy designs.
I have come to like the tokens somewhat.

I like the new art and animations

I don't care for it, only somewhat disappointed.
Don't really understand constant anti-player nerfs, changes, and mechanic implementations. Why spite your fanbase?

This has been a regular occurrence with Redhook, they did this throughout the development of DD1 too. It often feels like the devs have no idea why people like these games. They didnt even know Crusader was a fan favorite when they removed him.

        >Look it up
        >It's real
I'm really impressed with how out of touch Red Hook is.

Yeah, it's why I've been in state of confused onlooking since the DLC for DD1 were coming out.
Not only do they have no idea what people actually like about their game, which to their credit they were open about, but they also seem to have some strange spite for their fanbase with their comments on classes like Crusader and Vestal (like you hinted at here) alongside development commentary of 2 (which understandable to have some frustration when so many people dislike the game from onset.)

Really the biggest issue is the game neither looks fun, nor is fun, and seems to mostly attract snippets of an already existing fanbase. Guess 1 was a lightning bottle end of the day and we are simply not the primary audience for Red Hook and perhaps never were.

        >They didnt even know Crusader was a fan favorite when they removed him.
Reynauld being gone made sense to me since him sacrificing himself to the end boss of DD1 feels appropriate for his character, like I figured it was supposed to feel like a genuine loss of a friend
Did they really not realize that people would miss him? Like I would've thought they would have leaned into that to get an emotional response from players

I hate to be the homosexual that says the game is shit when I havent played it but everything I see about this game looks like it ran in the opposite direction of what I liked about DD1 and wanted from a sequel. It just doesnt look good.

I haven't been able to get past the second boss. The game demands WAY too much grind. I knew going in that a lot of people had complained about the grind, but I wasn't prepared. It's not challenging, it's just the fact that none of your starting heroes have the skills that you need them to have. You don't even know what skills they are capable of unlocking. You have no choice but to grind through every hero to upgrade them at the hero shrines and with the metagame currency. The metagame is also horribly implemented. Items that you unlock at 40 hours in are ten times more powerful than items you unlocked earlier.

It's not like in Hades where you can conceivably start a totally fresh save and beat the game on your first attempt if you know what you are doing.

      >if you know what you are doing
You mean, if you are patient enough to deal with the absurd damage sponges.
Yeah sure, but it's still the same garbage. You are not MEANT to do it, and the game EXPECTS you to die. Any fricking roguelite that does this is dumpster tier garbage.

Meta progression is fun and all, but it shouldn't decide the game. I hate to say this, but a fricking gacha called Star Rail actually does this better than most other rogue-lites. How in the fricking world did it come to THAT?

Someone needs to kick all those devs in the balls that decided it's cool thing to design a game around expecting the player to die and get carried by meta progression eventually. It's fricking horseshit.
While games like Slay the Spire know this, and it's very beatable first try if you have any general experience with rpgs/card games, shit like Across the Obelisk is about as obviously designed with death in mind as it can be. A look at its cards and you just know they are absolutely garbage, as they are designed with max meta progression in mind which makes them better than your starter cards eventually. But at first almost everything you find is strictly worse than what you start with. Cool shit, really. NO.

If I die, I want to try beating it without getting carried by meta progression. But if said meta progression is INTENDED to be had, then it's just fricking over. Especially if you literally see it at every corner.

Sorry for rant, but if this Darkest Dungeon sequel does the same shit, it deserves to burn. Just like all of the other ones. Rogue-lite isn't a fricking excuse for bad game design. It's supposed to be a somewhat nicer rogue-like where you get a helping hand rather than being carried or HARD REQUIRING the help. But in a world where some people genuinely believe RNG=difficulty, people would also consider this kind of approach difficult, and never realize that they never win the game. No. Meta progression does. What a fricking joke.

    Just play Iratus.

I played Iratus and it was at the cusp of greatness, but ultimately mediocre(made it up to the paladin area). Combat is boring repetitive, with the progression system reinforcing it even more. It heavily favors investing into one team and a backup team at most. Half of the monster classes are gimmick shit and not viable or shittier versions of other class. Also Dark Knight is OP as hell, especially early game.

The change to rougelite format is cancer and stagecoach shit is gay as hell. The dungeons were ten times better. The combat is worse due to having to grind to even progess your character. The vast majority of higher difficulty encounters(even act one) are tuned for characters with some grind invested. So you cannot take risks in early game or any stage in the game without a party you invested in. Which is the exact opposite of DD1 where you could always take calculated risks or mini bosses that weren't overtuned for gatcha type grind shit. It makes the game boring as hell, you have to play it safe or get wiped. Also there are no dedicated healers, instead everyone gets mediocre conditional heal moves. The enemy variety is laughable and there is little content to begin with. I suspect this is the reason they went with rouglite approach to give the illusion of a full game.

The biggest sin however is completely abandoning the generic/several/independent characters per class. In favor of their own shitty dumb OC characters with their own backstory. Even in the first one, they should have randomized how each specific class character looked, the same aay that they had different names/pallette. It set a bad precedent for them to use the custom art to justify inserting their gay stories into an otherwise open ended game.

Playing this crap DEqeul DEmake just gives me the desire to play the original instead. Other than the improved visuals and polished combat in some areas(which is ruined by candle grinding).
    It's a straight downgrade.

It feels like they somewhat thought that their target audience is Long War players and no-life streamers and their underdeveloped and underage followers, DD difficulty went from grindy hard but fair to full moron since release of Crimson Court, they didn't learn anything if not they are stuck in some discord echo-chamber listening to manchild how X and Y should be harder and more complicated, Thanks God I've pirated it and I think I'll stay with vanilla DD for long time.

It's probably fine once you get past the grind and unlock the good stuff. You finally get more stuff to set you up for success.

It has its charms in how it compresses the DD1 experience into a 3-4 Hour campaign.

I do think DD2's core gameplay loop allows for more reinvention and future content compared to DD1 so I am looking forward to that. Once you unlocked the cool endgame stuff in DD1, those end up dominating the run so you end up only using the same set of Trinkets and Heroes. I guess one of their main problems with DD1 DLC is designing them in a way that you can experience them in a fresh campaign, instead of just doing more end-level stuff to keep the game fresh.

      Anonymous

Well it helped with DD1s design you could easily mod in more classes, new campaigns, etc. DD2 is not anywhere as friendly to modifications. And honestly I hate the core gameplay loop for 2 more than 1.

New region mods in DD1 often required having to restart / get rid of half your roster to effectively do them because people are allergic to just having all of these only be available for Champion onwards. I fricking hated that shit. New classes also aren't that guaranteed because it could take several in game weeks to even get one had usable quirks.

DD2 fixes a lot of that by having every hero just guaranteed from the start as well as not gating bosses and content into three different tiers outside of the confession bosses.

People forget that it took a year and a half before modded content for DD1 actually started taking off once people finally learned how to use Spine and Dragonbones

50 hours in and Act 2 is still pushing my shit in. It's not fun. It's not fun to play perfectly and still lose because you didn't grind the meta currency to buy upgrades between runs. It's not fun when losing a single hero will put you back 4-8 hours of progress since the rest of your team is very likely to die. It's not fun that all your utility skills are locked behind hero shrine grinding with no clue as to what skills you can even unlock. It's not fun to spend all this time getting to a boss to immediately eat shit because you didn't build your team specifically for that fight, even if there is no clue as to the boss's behavior.

I'm just baffled that this is the final release. The game is SO tedious. There's no measure of skill at this point, it's just a question of if you have ground enough to unlock all the OP trinkets.

I'm sure there's going to be a lot of fanboys who praise the agonizing, artificial ""difficulty"", but that comes at the expense of completely killing any pacing in the story. The first few runs were really neat to see all the areas and freaky monsters, but this has been just too much. 50 hours in a single player game has me ready to put it on the shelf.

Game is "shit". Oh lol. The first part rolled into a dull grindfest after an hour and a half. It was just an average game. The second part is better than the first at least twice. And it will be much more popular, it is obvious.

Anyone who says that the game is bad - name the good games of this genre in the last couple of years, lol. I'm sure you can't name anything other than shit.
