read a book, illiterate fuck
Isn't LotR like a billion pages long?
Barely over 1000, you can read that easily in just a few days.
Tell me you don't have anything to do in your pathetic life whitout telling me you don't have anything to do in your pathetic life, lmao
1000 pages is 3 hours a day if you take a week to read the book which is an average pace, many people read faster
if you can't spare just under 3 hours a day for your own entertainment, you're a cuck
>le epic anti-intellectualism
Yes, yes, you are such a subversive little contrarian, here’s your (you)
>implying lust for power is inherently evil
You Will Never Inherit The Eearth, christcuck.
Actually they will, mormons are having more kids. (is it mormons? the tards living in the fields?). Anyway, them and muslims. Demography rules.
No amount of passive cheekturners will be able to resist a violent and driven group that seeks to assert itself and dominate.
>violent and driven group that seeks to assert itself and dominate.
The dominating group is the one who had the head start, which is why the same families have been on top for 3000+ years. Sheer momentum.
head start of what? sucking their own dicks? i'm probably more happy despit emy shit lfie than any member of the british royal family and no amount of eating flowers in 5 stars restaurants will change that. it's only a head start if you desire it. anyway we have bigger problems
I like villains who live for their ideals and don't care about being seen as evil, or even embrace it.
Cogito ergo sum.
Reminder OP was a ranking only humored and spread by dumb /co/tards as bait. A villain is far more than their motivations or how justified they are in their mindset. Usually, a truly good villain can fit in most of those categories at the same time, in fact.
a good villain needs to be a legit threat to the heroes and be as important to the story and themes as the protagonists, if not more
More like ergo cum
Came here to post him. I love a good unrepentant bastard when it's done right.
Sauron is not an interesting villain by himself but the true villain of LOTR is really the ring, and specifically how the ring can corrupt good people to do its bidding.
Sauron's desire for power is more than petty malice and greed.
You guys will really never accept that Armstrong is Shit Tier, huh?
>Speaks about cleaning american society off flaws and weakness, using "gunz + 'merican dream" as argument
>Actually needs votes to prolong the war and sell more weapons
Not the elder god tier, but his writing definitely isn't a shit tier.
You remember wrong
He is selling guns and war as a business to become elected so he can end war as a business and turn USA back into what the founding fathers created, a land of the free. He is a dreamer and idealisti, just willing to use the underhanded tactics of the globohomo in order to take them down and restore sanity to the land.
He is great.
Yes and he's using an army of child soldiers who's brains he stole and encased in a virtual prison. Immediately invidating his entire speech about freedom and how he admired Raiden, a former child soldier who struggled for scraps and got strong through survival, for totes getting him.
Armstrong is an hypocrite and his dreams are delusion.
By this description Armstrong is a shit tier villain.
This meme was always shit even ten years ago, only redditors focus on the motive when they should be focusing on other factors like writing and presence
Zoomers don't understand arrmstrong they just like the shirtless nanomachines meme man from the maxor video they wathced
Pretty much. One of the best villians ever is freeza and this list would place him at meh tier at best
That's because Armstrong is bullshit. Nothing he says makes any sense either on paper or in practice, and it's just him trying to cover up his blatant lust for power with an "Ideal"
Thats your own headcanon
The game paints him as someone who did not lie when he explained his true goal of restoring the land of the free
I like villains who are evil for the sake of being evil and I'm tired of pretending they're awful just because some random ass online nobodies smelling their own farts arbitrarily decide so.
The cricket scenes and his mooks dying were the standout for me.
What a fun movie. Had a nice message too.
Surprisingly good, yeah. Went in expecting your typical DreamWorks quick cash grab and got a solid film.
This. Big bads are fun and the fact that their motivations are so "weak" makes their actions all the more heinous.
Horner was a perfect narcissist, really good
i like that horner is complimented by death and goldilocks. Individually they would've been fine but maybe not as memorable, together they make for a great ensemble.
Death is the personal antagonist, directly tied to the protagonist and his arc. Goldilocks is more of a reinforcement of the themes of the story and gives the movie a simpathetic antagonist. Finally horner is the big threat chasing the heroes (something death can't do too much or he would've overstayed his welcome) and is still tied to the themes
The villain motivation tire list is shit in general. You can write an inherently evil villain (your pic) or a villain who motivations are hard for a normal person to understand (Anton Chigurh) really well, and you can write a “sympathetic villain retaliating for the wrongs done to them”(Daenerys Targaryen) or a villain with arguably better reasoning than the hero (le ebin Thanos) poorly. And sometimes an objectively evil villain or some otherworldly monster works way better than some pseudo-philosophical fag.
twitter really just brainwashed some retards into believing one dimensional villains are good just because they aren't disney villains.
watch actual movies made for adults so you can see how you can construct a villain that has meaning. and get that shitty logic away from videogames, please.
This, you can even smell the reddit from that first poster.
>tumblr ass filtered gif
>"I'm tired of pretending"
>projection for the sake of being aggressive
>long ass sentence with no commas and blunt statement
Why are we letting people like this dictate what is good or not?
>watch actual movies made for adults
Sure, which ones?
Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther (Wakanda Forever!), and Captain America Civil War.
"The Cremator" in specific if you specifically a good constructed villain.
This. Villains that love their villainous selves are the best villains.
He did nothing wrong.
i feel like every form of media now tries to write a villain as morally grey and attempts to make the consumer relate to them in some way
it's become refreshing to have a villain that's just plain evil that does evil things and everyone hates them 2bh
its a cycle, like everything else in every industry.
>someone comes up with a new, innovative thing
>it gets popular
>everyone tries to copy it so they can get more money
>it ends up oversaturated
>someone comes up with a innovative thing that reuses previous things
>rinse and repeat
>Villain is deeply afraid of being powerless
>Does everything they can to attain power
>Will commit immoral acts for this sole reason
>Aware of what they're doing but unable to back down
>It was all because of childhood trauma
Which tier would Vergil be?
High tier since he's in some sense retaliating against misdeeds done to him. His actions and motive are understandable even if they aren't necessarily good.
Reminder that he got away with everything
The only reason he isn't the best MG villain is because he was the hero
>btw I killed your parents lol, just throwing that out there
Based. Fuck Raiden lol
Which tier would big boss be?
Original BB? High tier. New BB? Meh tier.
he was going to nuke the most densely populated city in America
Just an EMP to knock out the power long enough to get at the Patriots' AI
do you know how many people would die if you EMP'd New York City?
Just the ones driving electric cars, so good riddance?
try taking the battery out of your car and see if it runs
>All electronic equipment in hospitals
>All infrastructures based on electricity
>Pumps for running clean water
To name a few.
Are you legit THIS fucking ignorant?
You'd kill off everybody in critical condition in hospitals, all old people reliant on heating/AC to not die of cold/heat stroke, cause potentially dozens, if not hundreds of major car accidents during the initial drop in traffic lights, and cause a major food shortage within days with the loss of refrigeration, as well as shutting down water purification.
Sounds like a bunch of great reasons to never live in the city. None of these things are a problem for me.
I live in the woods and it is this lifestyle that makes me realize how dependent we are on technology.
I run water from my river with a pump. What am I without my pump if it breaks in the middle of winter? What am I without electric heating if snow is waist deep and I can't cut wood for my fireplace?
These are always problems. Not saying that living as an urbanite is preferable, but you are bullshitting if you try to tell me this cannot affect you
>What am I without my pump if it breaks in the middle of winter?
A man who has to go to the river himself with a bucket.
>What am I without electric heating if snow is waist deep and I can't cut wood for my fireplace?
A man who was too stupid to cut wood in the summer and stock up for the winter
the entire city would be dead within weeks from lack of clean water
All in shit tier. No exceptions.
reluctant villains who don't want to do evil but still do it out of a promise to people they want to protect and save
Black Manta is Outer God level
"Villain is just fucking petty" is usually great
>Villain just wanted everyone to get along and stop killing each other
>Villain is trying to be the hero he idolized
>Villain just wants his father back
>>Hero just wanted everyone to get along and stop killing each other
That's right! No more bad guys!
What tier would Adachi be? Elder God?
High tier because society.
Elder God, definitely.
What about villains who try to do good but pragmatically commit some evils because it's near impossible to be morally good while achieving results on an acceptable scale or timeframe?
japan cant write anything better than mid, thats why they cant make good games
That’s where you’re wrong
>Villain is just a piece of shit
Evil is evil. If you do evil expect for me to smite you to the best of my ability.
Evil is such a relative term.
Evil to whom?
>Villain of any tier
Shit list, shit bait, 2/10 made me reply.
>villain is the protagonist in the sequel.
Any examples of this done in such a way (not like star wars) where they're still a villainous fuck?
Kyrandia fucked me in that regard.
Gimme those ''''''''''''''''''Shit''''''''''' Tier villains again.
Fuck all this grey morality bullshit
Let me kill a bitch without spewing me their life story at me
I want to be the villain.
Great proof that a villain's quality really isn't about what motivates them but about how they act
Skull Kids motives aren’t a mystery, he’s a little kid acting out because he doesn’t have any friends, when he gains a bit of power by stealing the mask he lashes out at the world in any way he can, causing general mischief and trying to destroy Termina, by the end of the game when the mask is threatened it discards skull kid and fights for its own survival
So what are some games with god-tier villains?
I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream has one of the best villains in all of vidya
AM probably qualifies as one of the best villains in anything, period.
Villains who are just evil are the ones that make the most sense. All the other ones are just coping from good-natured people who believe all evil MUST have a motivation and cannot simply be evil for the sake of it.
OP's take is mid as fuck. Peasant tier at best.
Everybody knows that what makes a good villain is both entirely tied to context and their relationship to the hero and in what ways the villain pushes protagonists to overcome themselves. Motives are a mere accessory to these goals and any villain with any motive can be interesting as long as you respect these rules of writing.
Characters without a proprer context and environment do not work even if you spend millenias writing their individual bios to make them as EPICK as possible.
Why do you talk like a twitter zoomer?
But is he wrong?
Here's some red hot news for ya, Ganker retards don't play video games and as a matter of fact despise them because it reminds them of their own personal failures and their gradual decline in ambition.
why do people act like Armstrong had a point? His plot was to start a war between the US and Pakistan using an army of kidnapped brainwashed child soldiers so he could turn everything into Fist of the North Star and "purge the weak" with his army of cyborgs. His first scene in the game is ordering thousands of kidnapped children killed for being "burdens on their societies and cities."
Is it just because of his memetic English voice acting? I feel like this never would have happened if they stuck to the Japanese script. He sounds like every other stock "in my world only the strong will survive!" anime or fighting game villain like Heihachi or Vegeta. Also he didn't play college ball you know in that version and doesn't have the omelet quote.
Most consoomers do not understand the deeper layers of storytelling so they can't analyze storytelling, they can only relate with specific characters.
Armstrong, on the surface, is very easy to relate to for most edgelords and anarchists because he's basically embodying the "FUCK THE SYSTEM!" sentiment. Couple that with his wacky, charismatic meme persona ans most people back when the game released and in its ressurgence in popularity went "LMAO XD XD LE NANOMACHINES WHAT A FUN CHARACTER XD XD but for real tho he be dead ass low key speaking sum truth tho" ignoring the fact that the entire game narrative and visual environment up to this point was designed to highlight the hypocrisy of Amrstrong as a character who preach to the choir, but is nothing more than a man LARPing as the kind of future man that he envisions living in his anarchist world.
The one redeeming factor for Amrstrong is that he was a man of his word in the end. He lost to Raiden and immediatelly accepted him as being in the right. Armstrong, at the very least, did fully believe in might makes right and was fully ready to happily relinquish the future to anyone who could beat him.
I think Armstrong might have landed a bit better if Revengeance actually went a little harder on showing a post-MGS4 world. Literally the entire fucking world had come to rely on privatised war as its major means of commerce and it was essentially a post-truth society because of Patriot filtering on fucking everything. If we'd seen a world recovering from that then Armstrong's stuff about
>the economy's kind of fucked after SOP went, so it's reasonable for me to try and kickstart a big fucking war so we can get back on track
>lol jk SOP and the war economy fucking sucked and made everything shallow, I'm actually pulling us out of it
But we don't really know much about the post-SOP world and the end of the Patriots except for a different set of PMCs being top dog and using cybernetics more heavily.
It's not really a fault of the game, as it's obviously a more straight forward story than most Metal Gear and its focus is intentionally on Raiden, but I think if the context Armstrong actually exists in had been emphasised then he might have stood stronger.
>rating villains based on how sympathetic their motivation is
I've been seeing this retarded image for years, how do people actually agree with it?
As I said. People unfamiliar with the hobby of storytelling and story writing don't analyze a narrative based on its rules and consistency. They analyze the quakity of a story based on how hard they relate to a specific character or situation in the story.
>villain's motivation is fucking retarded but he is just having so much fun that it just folds in on itself and makes him kino
get raped, pedo.
What the fuck is wrong with that guy? How long has he been doing that?
soiposters are god-tier doe
reverse the order
Swap great with high and I agree
Is Elder God Tier just off-topic Ganker threads?
can any anons tell what mid-tier is to me? i understood the others but mid-tier I do not know what that is being.
>cat posters are elder got tier
So, according to this, Chigurh is mid-tier at best, while some damaged pseud from capeshit would be at least high-tier?
How the fuck is Rhodes and Elder God Tier villain? He's Mid Tier at best. He has no higher plan other than "kill zombies" and the scientist was actually on to something. By killing him he may have inadvertently doomed the entire human race.
considering the modern rise of "dindu nuffin" villains that always have tragic backstories because everyone has to be redeemable for moralfags and the tumblr sexyman crowd now, you could probably bump shit tier up a couple of levels
It's honestly extremely entertaining when a villain's entire schtick is "fuck you gimme mine," especially when they wear it on their sleeve with pride and don't ever bother pretending otherwise
I still stand by my statement that context makes the difference. A redeemable villain can either be shit or great depending on their environment and conflict with the protagonist. If the conflict betweeb villain and protag is surface level, then the villain will ve shit regardless of personal motivations.
jack horner from puss 2 became an instant favourite because he was a piece of shit all the way down as opposed to le sudden twist villains or le intergenerational drama that disney has been peddling for so long
>just evil or lusts for power hurrrr
Retards who have not read the entire canon should never say any commentary about Tolkien works
Sauron is a control freak who thinks he can make the world better by taking away everyones freedom and himself deciding everything for them, and wants to industrialize every civilization after conquest
Literally some of the best villains in history fall under that category. Dio, frieza, Vergil,
Id switch mid and high tier.
I find someone who did evil things just to live to be more in line with great tier and overall more interesting then
>we live in a society
The damage this template has done to villains in media and its consequences have been a disaster. Jack Horner in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was considered a breath of fresh air just because he was a stock villain with no gay sob story to justify being a malicious asshole. That's how bad things have gotten.
Depends on the context.
Gay and black or some other minority.
Sauron wanted to modernise middle-earth and raise the standard of living for everyone under his dominion. Read the abridged book for the real story and not the one peddled by the midgets and the warmonger aragorn.
>you ARE the villain and yet everyone else was too
>Villain is just a massive piece of shit. Not even evil but just straight up scummy
Name a better villain
What tier would he be in?
>How do you like your villains in vidya?
In a vacuum, he's squarely in Great Tier. But since he spends most of the game being a generic evil mastermind before exposition dumping his tragic backstory in the final cutscene, he honestly deserves Meh Tier.
John White is still the only good antagonist in this series.
literally the only thing that matters is if a villain is cool and likable
What about her anons?
Any elder god tier villains who are written like shit tier?
I enjoy villains best when they are unmistakably evil but still hold a strong a motivation.
I prefer it when the villains motives are never explained and remain a mystery even after you complete the game.
How do glowmorons choose scapegoats? Does't it make sense to use those who have no strong connections. I mean I guess they got rid of his brother quickly and easily enough.
Is it just arrogance?
Elder god tier make for the deepest and most interesting stories.
Videogames writers are garbage tho so they settle with the first three. Which is fine. Most of gaming's iconic villains are found in shit tier. It's all about execution I feel.
I've been on a Spaghetti Western kick thanks to RDR2 and FNV. I like Mid and Shit tier because of how Westerns treat the villain in the end. Micah was alright, I still don't believe that he started snitching after returning from Guarma.
>Villain started off with good intentions, but gradually lost their way until they became a slave to the very system they sought to change
What tier do they go in?
what a shit chart, villains who are essentially right can destroy the story if the author tries to frame them as wrong and villains who are just greedy or power-hungry can be a great fit even for more complex stories.
armstrong's plan was shit if you put tought on it, but like a real politician he convices you with his charisma
i personally like the great tier, i feel its the most realistic ones. i also like the shit tier ones because sometimes you just need a force of nature to get the plot going you know?
And that's how you tell OP is a newgay zoomer.
Reminder MGR won the 2013 VGAs
I like a pure evil villain with no humanity that, through their terrible deeds, manifests misguided villains.
The indoctrinated and the Reapers.
The Covenant and the Prophets.
Victims of circumstance, twisted by darkness to be at odds with the protagonist. It's an even better story if villains can find redemption, who through talk no jutsu can find the strength and wit to fight the evil that they were once subjugated by, if only for a few moments.
Being able to take on that final evil is a fantasy, and what makes a story an epic. I'm not interested in learning that "morality doesn't exist" for the millionth time. I want stories of masters, not slaves.
>she's evil because she's evil
