Everything that was vita exclusive ended up getting a PS3/PS4 port due to the vita's low sales.
There's a frick ton of vita ports on proper consoles.
Hell even the switch has vita ports.

              Anonymous

Yeah but there's a difference between how "everything" exclusive will get ported to new systems over a long enough timeframe, and those two not being exclusive even at launch.

                Anonymous

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying those games were exclusive, just that Vita games got PS3/4 only releases in the west when they were Vita only in JP. The Vita was seemed that unpopular they abandoned it after about 3 years in the west which is why it's exclusive games dried up.
Freedom wars is probably the only big game I can think of that didn't get a port and still needs a sequel.

Muramasa Rebrith, but there was a Wii version
Gravity Rush, but the PS4 remaster isn't any worse than the original
Project Diva trilogy, but the ps4/pc arcade version port is better
P4 Golden, but the PS2 version is better
Steins; Gate, but you can play that version elsewhere
Cold Steel I & II, but the ps3 version was better, and later the ps4 / pc
Caligula Effect, but the ps4 version was fine.

Which ones were ported to the Vita?

          Ports/Multi-plat:
          >Persona 4
          >Danganronpa series
          >Disgaea series
          >Zero Escape series
          >Wipeout
          >Final Fantasy X, X-2
          >Dungeon Travelers
          >Digimon Story series
          >Dragon's Crown
          >Rayman Origins
          >Litle Big Planet
          >Sanran Kagura series
          >Hot Shots series
          >Need for Speed series
          >Neptunia Series
          >Project Diva series
          >Atelier Series
          >Steins Gate

And this is just me lazily looking at half of the list, and only counting stuff I knew. I literally didn't even go through the rest of the games. I just stopped at Stein's gate after skimming up to that point.

          >More than half of these are ports
          Yes.
          >around half of those ports are inferior themselves
Other then framerate(which can be fixed with OC) and certain games lacking content(falcom games are a great example) that's not really an issue. It's a handheld, there will be tradeoffs.

Some of them have lower graphics settings as well. Regardless, the point is that the Vita only had a handful of original games (non-indie) that were gems. The problem wasn't the vita, but how Sony handled the device. They screwed up its marketing, didn't have faith in it the moment it didn't IMMEDIATELY sell out, and didn't look for dev support properly. Like the PSP, the Vita was an amazing console for its time, but it was a failure and wasn't worth the purchase, even for stuff like Soul Sacrifice that was locked to it forever. Anons just need to stop posting these images that show 90% ports or multi-plats like the Vita had this amazing library of its own.

You either get blurry as frick scaling with 3 frames of input lag or slightly better scaling with adrenaline with 5-6 full frames of input lag.

The Vita plays absolutely every single PSP game, and can use the right analog stick and touch screens in place of other buttons. Same goes for the PS1 games.

I have looked up about the input lag thing, it does seem to be a problem but there isn't any solid data on how many frames it adds on compared to a PSP. There was a video that showcases it though.(https://youtu.be/ALD0pft12w4) Apparently there is something called ChovySign that helps reduce the input lag since it doesn't run though adrenaline. I will say the PS1 lag exist. I was playing Strider 2 today and noticed it when I got the input. I will also say that when I wanted to run an eboot of Soul Edge, it lagged pretty badly. I remade the eboot with a fresh iso and it started working as intended.

I just tried patapon 2 on adrenaline, and I had no problem typing the commands. Maybe it's the game that has a certain amount of input error tolerance, but I dont see it.
Besides patapon games, I mostly play turn based psp games so I wont be able to notice it. I agree that the ps1 emulation is unstable for me as well. For some reason, Im getting ocassional framedrops in some ps1 games. I dont know whats wrong with it. Im still happy that vita can play so many games though, despite the problems it still has as a console. I guess if Flow stayed in the vita scene for a bit longer, adrenaline would have been perfect.

Why are you so autistic about it? Im not even disagreeing with you, lol. The fact that Vita can play so many games, pretty much proved how much untapped potential it had as a console, and how sloppy Sony was with it. Vita used to be a god tier portable emulation device, but nowadays its outdated. The average phone can be a better emulator than a vita these days. Still though, I love my Vita, and I still play games on it.

I use the psx core only for MK trilogy because Adrenaline cannot run it for some reason. Every other ps1 game, I run them via Adrenaline. From what I remember, the framedrops mostly occurred on some unofficial fan made eboots. I had some framedrops on racing lagoon, but that game already had issues and needed a "trick" in order to run it smoothly on Vita. I had also some rare fps drops on a custom made Omega Boost eboot. On the other hand, I have finished Crash Bandicoot 1, Chrono Cross and MGS1, and experienced zero issues. I think the trick to avoid issues with ps1 games is to either use bubble manager, or enter adrenaline and straight up play the game you want. Dont start another game, then exit, and then start the game you wish to play. Also, some plugins could create issues.

                >Why are you so autistic about it?
Vita brings out the autism in people, in both ways.

Thats is true. We have all these great ports on Vita thanks to its modding fanbase autism. People truly love their vitas, and I can understand how they feel.

The Vita failed for a lot of the same reasons the PSP underperformed. Sony just fundamentally did not understand the differences between the handheld and home console markets. They tried to beat Nintendo in handhelds the same way they had beaten them in consoles by making a "cutting edge" system and trying to base it around the same kinds of games. but the handheld market is much less about things like having the best graphics and more about things like form factor, usability in suboptimal conditions. And it favors completely different kinds of games more focused around short burst start'n'stop gameplay, both in genre but also in design within those genres, compare the design of Nintendo handheld rpgs like Pokemon or Mario&Luigi to the PS1 style JRPG games on the PSP/PSV.

      >compare the design of Nintendo handheld rpgs like Pokemon or Mario&Luigi
To be fair I think that's just Nintendo as a whole, the DS wasn't alien to having more wordy games be more popular like AA & 999.

Yeah but those were more niche titles though. The real system sellers definitely leaned towards a design philosophy that Sony just never fully grasped.

(It was actually 80 million) Still majorly underperformed compared to its primary competitor the DS, and failed in Sonys attempt to take over the handheld market from Nintendo. And it put into consumers heads an idea of what a Sony handheld was that negatively affected the Vita's sales, especially when the Vita doubled down on the aspects of the PSP the people didn't like.

The vita failed because it had incredibly overpriced proprietary memory cards.
If you're forced to pay up to $80 for a 1gb memory card your console of course you're going to not buy it.
A vita with 4gb worth of memory was something like $450 new at release compared to the 3DS being launched at $250 and dropping to $160 not long before the vita released. It was actually insane thinking that people would spend that much on a handheld.

wow, $200 more than I got mine new with cod and 4gb

I said at release, the vita launched price was $250 and came with I think a single 500mb memory card. With bundles just getting 1gb was like $300. They seriously overcharged the memory cards.

I only payed $300 for mine ($200 for the console and $100 for 8gb memory) since I waited for the price to drop but that shit was outright extortion.

There are no Vita memory cards smaller than 4GB and their MSRP was $20.

I was including that under "Sony did not understand the difference between console and portable markets". Yeah one of the big aspects of portables is that they're the budget gaming system for poorgays. You can't get away with nickel and dime'ng them with things like proprietary memory cards because a lot of the time the reason they bought a portable in the first place was that they have no money to spend on doodads like a console buyer might.

Do I pull the trigger boys? My family got me a bunch of Amazon gift cards for my birthday this month, so I can basically get a case, memory card and microSD for free
Is it worth picking one up now? How difficult would it be to repair if something broke?

You don't need a Vita MC, at least.

Look to see if you like the Vita's library before you do it. If you like it, you'll have a great time. If you just want to play PSP/PSX games, you might have a good time.

Yeah, a lot of the PSP and PSX games ply flawlessly, as well as the GBA and SNES emulator
Plus there are ports, like GTA SA
        I found one for $150ish
        Any other cheaper options?

Does the vita have a single original japanese schmup or platformer?

Tearaway for platformers. I'm sure there was a schmup but don't know the name. If you want a REAL game for REAL gamers then SoR remake got a fan made port onto vita.
