It doesn't go against her goal of becoming a Dragon Master. Look at Cynthia and Diantha. One's a Champion and historian, the other a Champion and Model.
As for her character, guess it's because she often looked down on Alder whenever he showed up, but that's more on Alder.
Did Iris give a shit about Alder in the games? Not sure if they ever interacted

It's kinda funny how Cynthia has never had Draco Meteor in a single game, and Iris is the one champion who can actually teach it. You'd think it would be Iris signature move in the anime, not Cynthia's.
