How is Displayport not the norm for video games yet?
Who the fuck wants HDMI, it's worse in every way AND it carries sound. Why the fuck do you want sound from your monitor?
Do you not have speakers? Can't afford a headset?

games don't care what kind of port you're using
I am waiting for them to be able to beam video signals directly into my brain
the human eye can't see more than hdmi
real eyes realize real lies
DP has audio you dumb fuck
I really don't know. I also don't understand why these manufacturers keep putting speakers on these gaming monitors
I still use DVI.
For me, it's VGA.
my current confusion is what is nvidias problem with supporting gsync on hdmi
they do it on tvs but not monitors
>use dp
>slight bump or shake of desk
>monitor cuts out for 5 sec
sounds like you cracked the connector, since DP has a locking mechanism it is more prone to that compared to hdmi that can slip out a bit if snagged.
DP carries audio, schizo
I swear, this board gets angry just for the sake of their own daily routine
>DP has no aud-ACK
>he bought a monitor with tinny speakers worse than listening to .wav files on a Chinese flip phone
I came here to laugh at you.
>using your monitor for audio
Oh boy am I laffin you can get a decent pair of speakers for under $200 you broke ass bro
>bluetooth
They allow for BT, but come with all the shit for plugging it in. You can play from your phone or whatever via BT though but nobody would do that of course
>RCA
>active speakers
You gays will nitpick everything. Show me a better speaker for that price range.
Everything else at the same price being worse would have no bearing on whether they're good or not.
okay
>You gays will nitpick everything.
You're literally in a thread crying about DisplayPort
those are not decent
>AND it carries sound
That sounds like a bonus more than anything. Not sure why you're making it out like a bad thing when there are monitors and TVs that come with built in speakers? That's like asking, "Why does the PS4 double as a blu-ray player? Are you too poor to afford a separate one?"
>Not sure why you're making it out like a bad thing when there are monitors and TVs that come with built in speakers?
You have never heard the audio quality.
>connect devices through audio out
now tell me what's wrong about this
That's because I can afford separate speakers but if you're poor and can only afford a TV which comes standard with HDMI then why complain? Beggars can't be choosers and not everyone can afford surround sound speakers or whatever for their home theater. Same thing goes for computers.
>locks in
>recessed area where you can't press the little button in to unlock it
my only complaint
my OLED has no DPI ports 🙁 120hz is enough... right bros???
HDCP was built primarily for HDMI
the only benefit i've found for 144hz is that you can play 24fps content without doing 3:2 pulldown but that doesn't really matter when VRR exists
it's also nice for VR where the miniscule latency difference between 120-144hz might actually be noticeable

consolemorons don't know what this is yet. they just recently discovered SSD's
>buy phone
>it has screen
How is this allowed?
Because big manufacturers have a monetary incentive to push HDMI because others need to pay licenses for the ports
hdmi makes surround sound so much easier anon. and yes, i absolutely do want surround sound.
(if you even think of mentioning optical and it's bullshit compressed abomination of dolby digital or dts it shows you have no clue what you're talking about.)
Unfortunately HDMI is the only option for TVs which are some of the best monitors these days if you care about OLED.
Really sucks because HDMI are assholes about their spec and who can implement it, so Linux support is and will always be incomplete for HDMI 2.1.
Because HDMI as a standard is too heavily ingrained now. It's like asking why HD DVD isn't the standard over Blu Ray.
but bluray is better than hd dvd and hdmi is not better than dp
I want convenience. Speakers are an extra expense. I don't want to wear a headset.
>connect speakers to display instead of PC
>now you can use speakers for whatever source is currently in use by display
Just how fucking hard is it to comprehend? This board gets more dumb with every fucking minute.
yep but the worst part of this autistic thread is that it doesnt matter since both DP and HDMI carry audio.
>ITT: OP doesn't realize you can choose your sound output device on Windows
Why the fuck do you want sound from your monitor?
I have an hdmi switch plugged into my main monitor, one port for the pc, the other for my nintendo switch. The monitor has an audio jack port which i plugged speakers into.
It's a pretty comfy setup.
I used to use 23 inch 1080p TV as a monitor for 9 years. With speakers connected, I could easily control volume and switch source from PC to PS3 or PS4 with remote.
It finally shat itself last year, so I switched to 43 inch 4K TV instead. It's a shame TVs don't come with jack port anymore and they require HDMI ARC to passthrough sound.
reminder that if you're on an HDMI you might not be seeing the proper refresh rate of your monitor. make sure you double check
DP carries audio too. HDMI 2.1 has more bandwidth than DP 1.4 and there's not enough devices that support DP 2.1
>Release a $1500+ GPU
>Cheap out on DP
For what purpose
>Cheap out on DP
DP 2.0 is so vastly superior to HDMI 2.1 it's not even funny. You can have a single 4K 120Hz display on HDMI 2.1, while DP 2.0 can have 2x 4K 144Hz on a single cable and it's free for the manufacturer to implement unlike HDMI which has a royalty cost. There's no cheaping out here, the manufacturers are simply using the best. NVIDIA is the only one who still hasn't implemented DP 2.0 in the newest GPUs, while all the rest have followed the times. There's no chance NVIDIA isn't going DP 2.0 for their 4000-series Ti when it arrives.
>There's no way
I wouldn't put it past them
DP also has sound. The only reason why it's not the gold standard for everything is due to copyright lobbies back in the day wanted DRM which only HDMI had in the beginning (HDCP) while DP did not, but later had to cave in and add HDCP in order to please the cartel and get a market. Thus HDMI became the standard first on televisions and also on computers which unfortunately carries on to this day, even though DP is a far superior technology, royalty free (HDMI is not) and developed by VESA.
I just want all tech to move to Sdi and usb c
