they are adding classes at a decent clip from what i understand once the 5e classes are done then they move on to full story mode focus which they are already developing.

They already confirmed next year. Are you one of those morons that think the EA is an indication of the entire progress of the game?

With the next panel from hell I wouldn't say a release date/window isn't out of the question for the 2 year anniversary. It was Feb's patch that they said they had a year left, and June's patch when they said everything is going into orange box state aka complete but needs feedback and then polishing like how we had launch UI to now go through like 3 stages.

More than alot of shit like level 5, new areas etc I want the previous classes to be more fleshed out in terms of subclasses and features. GoO basically doesn't exist.

        That’s moronic.
They already have precedent for releasing with the early access model, and they have absolutely no way to monetise the product after the one time purchase, which will give severely diminishing returns. The idea they can float a company on the tiny market of people willing to pay AA prices for an early access RPG is so fricking stupid you must have had a stroke while writing it.

I bought it like 2 years ago and it's still in early access. Every time they come out with a new zone they act like it's a massive update, when the first 2 had 100s of zones/locations/whatever.

Why couldn't Pillars of Eternity or Disco Elysium just have been Baldur's Gate 3?

        Anonymous

What we have of Act 1 is far better than Fort Joy or Cyseal were, so I am optimistic that the longer dev time means the last portion of the game isn't a massive frick up.

Not 100s but alot, and in the case of BG1 most of them were empty wilderness shit modern game engines could shit out in 30 minutes with some basic tools.

DE is far from what most CRPGs try to do and they could never produce a combat-focused RPG and keep the same quality in other ways. DE worked because it wasn't combat focused, and your skills weren't meant for combat.

It seems that Shadowheart is the one character that game seems to follow heavily at least from what we can see in act 1. But I personally prefer Gale, although each of the companions so far have more evil alignment. I think Gale is one of the more good aligned or at least has good and intentions but lost in his pursuit for power. And he is pretty charming and witty.

All of the companions are able to be romanced by either male or female characters. The only thing that impacts it like in many other rpgs is whether they favor you depending on your actions. Other than that it is factored by your engagement in expressing interest should the prompt arrive. However in early access some are more difficult to begin than others. One infamous example would be Gale, trying to trigger his questline to proceed the romantic encounter.

I can’t think of any one mechanic as wide sweeping as armour in BG3 that outright sucks balls, so they probably won’t have this issue.
Dice is the only one that comes close, but that’s already been addressed to a degree with weighted dice, and I’m willing to bet that high rolls or flat checks will be one of the first major mods out when the game releases.

That's usually my approach but I've just seen people talk about the series like DOS2 was just better all around so you could go straight for it. I was wondering if the first one is terribly dated or something.

                >I was wondering if the first one is terribly dated or something.
It feels it going back, you can tell the size/scope of the game feels more like an indie compared to DOS2.

            Anonymous

Story wise it doesn't really matter. It's not a direct sequel situation.

I really enjoyed both, I'd say DOS2 has more depth in its combat, you have more abilities and spells, there's more tools at your disposal etc. To me it just felt like a better DOS1.

Some people dislike that status effects went from percentage chance in DOS1 to having to strip away the type of armor that protects from the status you want to apply but I didn't really mind it, it just changes up how you play and how you prioritize targets. They might tell you that because of this you should focus on either physical or magical damage for your entire party but from my experience having a mix of spell-casters and physical damage dealers in your party works perfectly fine and IMO is a lot more fun.

I'd say give DOS1 a try first and if you're not feeling it move on to 2 (do keep in mind that Fort Joy can be a bit of a slog). Spellcasters are very very powerful in DOS1 btw, our party consisted of 2 mages, a rogue and a warrior.

The greatest strength of the DOS games is the combat in my opinion.

Seems weird to include a character from a 20 year old video game series on the cover of your big campaign/setting book if you weren't banking on it's cross-promotional potential because you're thinking the Larian game will sell like hotcakes and boost Spelljammer sales as a side effect.

I think Wrath is going to be a hard act to follow, the build variety alone is staggering and the mythic paths offered some of the most choice and consequence I've ever seen in a CRPG. Also that game was announced, crowd funded, developed, released, got several expansions, and got an enhanced edition in the time this game from from pre-alpha v0.00.01a to alpha v0.00.01b.

shut up, 5e is all the class variety we need
My spellcasters will cast 1 spell per battle then switch to a crossbow the way its meant to be played

      they'll be fine
i got more reactivity being a druid for ten minutes in their EA vs the entirety of wrath
plus, i can just kill off characters i don't like on sight instead of waiting for a narrative setup 80 hours in

I won't play because the story just looks too terrible. I never expect good writing from larian but bg3 just looks beyond terrible. The only way I can see playing it is if it gets skyrim-tier mod support.

I like Larian, and I loved Divinity 2 but they can't do cities. Arx is tiny in relation to a city like Baldur's Gate, there's no way they will be able to do a 1:1 scale right? If they somehow pull it off I'll be surprised, but I'm fairly certain the entirety of Act 3 is in Baldurs Gate right?

Me and my brother will probably play it when it actually releases. How are the party members anyway? When we played Divinity we played as Red Prince and Fane respectively, he took the elf and I took Ifan.

      >How are the party members anyway?
There's no way to play them as an "origin" story yet, but from interactions etc you get Shadowheart's background seems to be heavily involved with the main story. Wyll would probably be an interesting choice as a main character too because of the connection with his cambion Mizora.

Giant spider, wolf, cat, giant badger, raven, and for Circle of the Moon druids you also get Deep Rothe (yak-like thing) and a polar bear.

also there are secret shapes you can get by making story choices (or just the 1 so far, idk)

I was hyped for it until i realised 1. it's only turnbased, but since it's larian i can live with that. 2. the PC has no voicelines at all for anything. saw some gameplay where the player clicked "laugh". and the PC just does a laugh emote. pretty lame. unless that's subject to change

iirc they found it weird that your own PC was narrating the story. I know there are still like 3 occurences in the game where your PC still talk that they haven't purged yet.

          Voiced protagonists are RPG AIDS.
It vastly inflates the budget for minimal gain, especially when offset by the inevitable dumbing down of the lines to save money.
Mass Effect being reduced to up right/down is a prime example of why it’s a terrible idea, not even getting into shit like Fallout or DA2

On the other hand, I can't imagine Deus Ex being nearly as memorable with a mute JC Denton.

its not rreal time with pause, its ui is ugly and nauseating, and you cant multiclass or do class autism. also the constant skill checks are gay and make you savescum constantly. and the companions are all annoying. other than that its pretty good and ill probably play through it fully once its out
