Autism doesn’t always present in obsession over completionism, sometimes its obsession over speed, repeatability, or efficiency.
You seem like the 3rd. Not because you like to play efficiently, but because you get mad at people who value other things.

That’s the real tell. The person who fills 10 boxes with eggs in pursuit of a perfect EV shiny isn’t necessarily autistic, but if they get mad at people who think that’s a waste of time, they may be.

Even though there are homosexuals baiting ITT they're pretty much right, Pokemon games have very little substance and mostly all you're doing is just walking from point A to point B through very linear levels and if there's maybe a puzzle it should take less than 5 minutes to solve as they're designed for children. People also tend to overestimate their playtimes by a lot and racking up 30-40 hours on a game can easily take weeks, there just simply isn't enough to do in Pokemon to get to that amount of time unless maybe you're doing the dex.

The other main problem is that Pokemon especially old Pokemon is filled with a lot of slow and time wasting things (HMs, slow dialogue during battles, slow movement speed) and thus gets padded a lot more than it should. But even then the games with the worst of it (HGSS and DPPt) weren't that long.

      >30-40 hours on a game can easily take weeks

Anon, these games are designed for kids and are mostly very linear. Whether or not you have them memorized is irrelevant.
I just don't really know what you're doing to get that amount of time unless you're doing excessive levels of grinding and capturing beforehand or you're leaving your game on.
Also, people definitely overestimate their playtimes. To put it into context, TOTK, a game that has a lot more content than every Pokemon game, took me around 60 hours to beat and see most of the game with lots of screwing around. It felt like I had been playing nonstop for weeks but the actual playtime hadn't been super long.
And also like I said, Pokemon is a very slow game with lots of very slow processes that it makes you feel like you're spending more time than you really are.

For what it's worth it's not just /vp/, most people are spending about 25-30 hours just to beat the games. Even longer for dex hunting or whatever "extras" means.

Depends on what you count as grinding. I faint wild pokemon I run into as I play but I never go out of my way to run into them. I think you're drastically underestimating the amount of time people can sink into these games just by doing daily events and side activities, that shit racks of playtime quite quickly, especially in games like HGSS that are filled with content like that.

            Anonymous

            >I faint wild pokemon I run into as I play but I never go out of my way to run into them
I mean taking significant time to level up your Pokemon.
            >just by doing daily events and side activities
And I think you're overestimating how many of those there actually are. How long does it take someone to check on the lottery or talk to NPCs? There aren't any big side areas or that many places to explore. These games just aren't that big.
SwSh and SV, which actually do have wide open places to explore, actually prove my point - we got reports from streamers early on the games were taking no more than 12-15 hours to beat and felt very short, even after exploring the Wild Area/open world extensively. Why? Probably because battles are faster and more QoL has been introduced. Even if they were dicking around more and were constantly backtracking to all the raids daily it wouldn't have increased the playtime massively.

              > And I think you're overestimating how many of those there actually are.
That’s impossible because I’m not “estimating” at all. I’m TELLING you that it DOES eat up that much play time when I DO play like that. As a matter of fact. I don’t care what you THINK, that’s how it IS in REALITY for me and many others ITT. No idea why you’re arguing with me about how accurately I can describe my own experiences

I have no idea why you're getting so defensive about how much or how little time you spend on Pokemon, anon. I'm just telling you the truth there really isn't that much to do in these games. You have a short campaign, a decently long collectathon, and a few side quests/areas - that is factually what is in them.
If you choose to spend your time doing the same things over and over for no other reason than you find it satisfying all the more power to you.
If you're getting mad that's how I'm describing your playstyle, then grow up. It's not an insult.

My main game for the generation where I stored my living dex would end up somewhere between 200 and 400 hours by time the next gen rolled around depending on how much stuff there is to do in the game, but I haven't finished (or even started, in most cases) a pokemon game since Moon.

Schizo posting or bait, what do you guys think?

Not sure where the frick people are getting their 30-50h from. If we're just counting beating the Champion, then campaigns take at most 12-16h even if you take your time. The most I took in a game was 24h in HGSS and that game has a slow engine and more content to do than your average game.

If we include the dex and battle facilities or online in the newer games then sure I can reach 30, 50 or even 100+, but for the campaign only you can't take more than 20h.

It really depends on your playstyle, some people also prefer to play the games more like an MMO, which can easily let you rack up dozens of hours before you see the credits. Like think about how people play the games for hundreds of hours in the post game, and then realize that some people play that way all the way through

          Anonymous

I can understand several dozen hours if it's your first time playing the game and you're exploring everything, getting stuck, catching everything, evolving, talking to everyone, etc. My first playthroughs of Scarlet and Legends also took me about 60h each before I got to the postgame, so I can understand if someone playing Emerald or HGSS today for the first time also takes that long.

I just assume most people here like me already played especially the 2D games over a dozen times each. I know where every item is, what every NPC says, where each Pokemon is, what they evolve into, I skip trainers, go into the games with a team in mind, etc and just kinda breeze through Hoenn or Johto in less than 20 hours.

Fair enough then. See, I COULD beat the games in like 10-20 hours without much problem if I wanted to, since, as you say, I know the games inside and out, I just prefer not to. I don't really like to binge play the games, I like to take my time with them, playing an hour or so a day, with occasional breaks, finishing them over the course of a few real time months. I just find this to be comfier for escapism purposes, which is why I play these games at all tbqh.
