Same. Whenever I get the urge to go back I just take a look at the newest lorebook on ishtar and sober up.

Red pill me on Destiny 2 free to play.

Do you get all the content?
Do you get access to the expansions?
    Can you unlock everything?
Do you have to pay for anything?

      >Do you get all the content?
      lol
      >Do you get access to the expansions?
      lmao
      >Can you unlock everything?
      even
      >Do you have to pay for anything?
      for everything

Bungie literally don't even sell full expansion packages as basic deal, you will have to buy everything piece meal, expansions, dungeons access (to each dungeon separately), season pass etc etc

Free to Play in Destiny is basically a demo. All meaningful content is locked behind DLC and seasons. They're called "episodes" now, which is basically them winding down over the next year in preparation for shifting priorities to their new extraction shooter.

How much of it is just uncompressed cutscenes and audio?

thats for preloading not for the game alone. After it actually comes out it will only take up 155gb on your drive

So when exactly was it that video game devs became utterly incapable of producing anything resembling a sane file structure and compression? Games haven't meaningfully advanced in terms of content or visual fidelity in half a decade, yet they keep ballooning completely out of control in file size. What is even in those files that wasn't there before? It can't be better models or textures, because games only look worse and worse, and also run way worse, just as an added bonus, because optimization is dead on every front. And why the frick do some games require 50 gigs of free disk space just to download and install a 1 gig patch? Oh wait, it's because they jam everything in one frickhuge archive, like the pajeet hacks they are.

Anyone who argues that there totally isn't a marked decrease in competence happening in the industry is smoking some good shit.

Like around 2013-2014 is when I started seeing games get bigger and bigger, but they were usually <60GB, it wasn't until 2018-2019 that I really started seeing games go past 60GB and into the 100s

They just shove raw files and different language variants in there and then brag about providing the best quality possible. Titanfall at least had some moronic excuse but modern games have none.

I'm surprised steam doesn't have an option to let you choose which language packs to install when installing a game

Some games at least let you delete other language packs once you install the game. FF13 is one i know of the top of my head, 50GB install but you can delete like 10 to 20GB iirc

Witcher 3 had languages as DLCs

          Anonymous

It does. Developers don't use it.
You can also hide ludicrously high resolution textures behind a free DLC download, as many developers have done in the past.

Steam does, but nobody uses it. Something something storage real estate, if you have one big game it is more likely you will stick with it for longer time and other behavioral marketing bullshit.

          Anonymous

          It does.
Helldivers II for example makes you choose your preferred language upfront and it will download ONLY said language. You retain the option to download more language packs if you want.

At least Titanfall was actually optimized to run on modern computers (for its time) even if a lot of it was thanks to the devs being actually competent and using the Source Engine.

The 299GB is for preloading only, as the files of the pre-patch version has to exist alongside the preload for some reason. The final size of the game is after update drops will be 144GB. Still incredible bloat anyway.

Why aren't Bungie vaulting every single expansion prior to Final Shape? Wasn't disk space their original excuse for vaulting?

      Anonymous

The real reason for vaulting is so they can make shit you already own obsolete and sell it back to you later as content.

I'm being facetious. I know Bungie are greedy fricks so it's amusing that Bungie are so hypocritical about disk space now regarding Final Shape
