The community is flooded in there too many people and too many games to play. Every new game has to compete with every game that has come out over the last 30 years.
There's no sense of community in anything anymore due to quickplay/matchmaking and every person you meet being like a throwaway NPC.
There's also a huge problem with everyone wanting everything to be meta and min/max poopsocking tryharding. You used to be able to do all sorts of whacky shit in multiplayer vidya, but now you can unironically be reported for "trolling" if you don't follow the metas.
RTS games became Moba and a lot worse but both were always brought down by the no fun people.
FPS tried new things, but it mostly doesn't work.
Graphics are amazing but we felt that way back then too.
Hardware is cheap (yea I get it the shortage and then the artificial shortage but back then a good computer was well over 1000 dollars)
Emulation became amazing despite how much people complain about it now.
Variety and ease of access to dev tools has created many good games at good prices.
Many games at good prices also has made community and the one or two big games everyone shares non-existent in a flood of tiny niches so it feels a little lonely.
This big time. Meta ruins everything, too much uneven gameplay. The good part of the old net and games is still around but its buried under everything else. Its not nerds hanging out with other nerds but instead just everyone. Makes more to do and easier access, but we lost our club. My best example would be WoW, early days sure the top few % were tryhard and no fun, but everyone else was dicking around, making friends, and having a blast. Now it feels the epeen crowd is the majority and the niche is the people still wanting to just play a game because playing is its own reward. Seems that way in any game now.
>why the frick should you be able to aim down the sights of a GUN? Wooow, so ridiculous! >The spray patterns that repeat 100% of the time are so much more realistic and better!
Most of them are shitty russians and shitskins as well as it has scammer economy for weapin skins or some shit like that.
Still I guess it is a mechanical FPS based around aiming and map knowledge rather than some epic battle of variables like a battlefield game or generic fast paced cowadoody.

Don't worry anon you are not alone, I can't really play FPS without ADS anymore, it just feels so fricking gay.
>shift from consoles maybe reversing slightly with semiconductor & geopolitical shenanigans >more common to recognize familiar faces in lobbies >large casual entry with mobile games puts in the minds of AAA's "please everybody" shoehorned algorithmic design-by-committee elements everyone hates >plateauing photorealism and performance with graphics cards & chips at reasonable upper end of performance lowering entry/mid level rig costs >gorillion entryist publisher platform grifts unsuccessfully trying to corner in on Steam and limping along because of mongoloids [FIFA/Star Wars for EA, ever diminishing Asscreed for UbiSoft] >fast enough internet to make LAN & co-op single player campaign runs a thing of the past; word of mouth now leveled to "look up puzzle/easter egg on youtube tutorial/playthrough"
Should see a turnaround. Backlogs have never been bigger, and they can't charge more for quality older releases or sequester them behind Google Stadia type 'on demand' service abominations.
Also CS. He's in CT spawn on de_dust, and you can see his knife on the right. Depending on when in 2002 it was taken, it would have probably either been 1.3 or 1.5.
im convinced cs has some form of mk ultra type hypnosis laved into the game ever sonce 1.6.
i was addicted to the game for a decade, thousands and thousands of hours between 1.6, source and go. i dont have a single memory of any of it, you cant even call it a blur, its completely removed from my mind.

Games use to be made by a small group of college bros coding from their mothers basement, drinking beers at night.
Now games are made by faceless corporations of 500 consulting diversity hires, and export the code out to india.
it hasnt
I can't say because I'm not young anymore and all of my friends are too busy to do LAN parties now.
This. Also, many of us don't even live in the same city anymore
Does anyone have the original video on youtube?

>AD 2015+7
>CSGO
Do people really
It had a peak of 1 million concurrent players in the last 24 hours. It's one of the most popular games on the planet still.
It doesn't deserve to be, though. It's a bad game. You can't even ADS.

That's horrifying.
