How much is worse is this version of the game in terms of graphics and playability compared to the Wii version? Going on a trip and can emulate this with my laptop but don’t want to bother with the Wii version.

It's identical in every way except the Wii version flips the entire framebuffer horizontally to make Link right handed (like the player holding a Wiimote), and there's some Wiimote gestures to do the same things you can do with the Gamecube controller.

It's better than the Wii version in every way except lacking 16:9
It's a GameCube game. The Wii version was an afterthought, even though it released first.

More like "properly fills out a CRT".

There are standard def widescreen CRTs.

It's not widescreen and you don't get the fun ir aiming controls. But you could probably turn on widescreen hack and I bet it would fricking work. And losing out on the aiming is no big deal when you also abandon the unnecessary motion controls.

The GameCube release is the best version even including Twilight Princess HD. It has the best controls and visuals.

What was the deal with Twilight Princess HD? I wasn't really following the project but it looked pretty identical from what I remember, I do remember Wind Waker HD being an absolute eyesore with all the bloom of course.

It's better in every single way except for bow aiming and no 16:9. Waggling to swing the sword makes the Wii version terrible IMO.

You can just press a button to attack
That's what I did when I first had it on the Wii and I barely realized you could waggle to fight

        >You can just press a button to attack
Really? I was so annoyed by the waggling on the Wii version, I switched to the Gamecube version before I could make it to the first dungeon.
There are some games that use the Wii controls well, but this isn't really one of them. It's too bad it came out before the Classic Controller.
Great game though. My favorite Zelda.

Wii version is dogshit. They mirrored the entire world just so Link would be right-handed since it was a Wii launch title. That means, the sun rises and sets in the wrong direction, everyone in the world is left-handed except Link, etc. It also lacks camera control because there's no second analog stick, and there are a few broken things here and there like how you can't just use the boomerang while moving; it makes you stop in place and enter an aim mode to cast. You also can't manually duck or backflip off epona like you can on GCN, and there's one less item slot due to fewer buttons. With that said, this version does have a few advantages: the graphics are slightly better with richer colors and better bloom effects, the framerate on GCN dips in a few areas that Wii doesn't, the fishing was clearly made with Wii in mind (all you do on GCN is flick the c-stick to hook a fish), and there's some junk like the sword swinging sounds from the Wii remote, but all together the GCN version is better for having the correct world orientation, fewer item bugs, etc. The HD version ruins a lot, such as by adding high res textures that border on hire this man tier at times and by increasing wallet size and adding a new lantern to help find poes -- two things to make an already sickeningly easy game easier. play GCN version or nothing

      >there's one less item slot due to fewer buttons
That's the GC version, chief. It only allows you to have two items equipped to X and Y, whereas the Wii version lets you equip three to the D-pad on the Wiimote plus one more to the B trigger for immediate use.

basically the only real difference between the GC and Wii version is that the GC version only lets you equip 2 items at a time whereas the Wii version lets you equip 3.

this is wrong though. the Wii version actually only lets you have 1 active item at a time. yes you can "equip" items to the dpad but unlike the GCN version you can't use them immediately, you have to press them once to assign them to the active B button slot ans then again to use. this becomes very annoying especially in combat. GCN uses the classic OoT style layout: you assign an item to a button, and press the button to use it. simple. Wii's take on this is basically a quick swap feature but there is literally only one actual item button. also ignore the secons moron, the Wii version has tons of issues.

the GCN supported widescreen in tons of games, it just wasn't the standard.

It's fake widescreen, at least in the case of Star Fox Adventures (the go-to examle for GCN widescreen). All it does is crunch the picture so you can then artificially stretch it on your early-00's-era TV setup. As you can imagine, it blew people's minds back then, but looking at it now, the image quality is noticably worse as a result. Dolphin seems perfectibly capable of simulating true widescreen with the right rig, but I'm talking real hardware.

the Wii does the same to achieve widescreen

    They're literally 99.8% identical.
    >dat .2% tho!
No, I stopped caring. THEY'RE 99.8% IDENTICAL. Take it from me, who used to play one version and trash-talk the other back in the day, then played the other version and realized it was overblown and I was played. Left-handed Link is now kill outside of the occasional Toon junk and he was always ambidextrous before 3D anyway, so anyone still using that excuse has some belated growing up to do. The sword is a bit more precise on GCN; aiming/non-sword gyro is even better than Skyward Sword, the game built for Wii, and performance is very slightly better, though even that is fairly negligible. Just pick whichever version is more convenient.
Besides, I think we can all agree here that "HD" is the worst way to play.

The HD version is the only version to play anymore because of Hero Mode.

i can't play any zelda game without hero mode and i wish that the 2d ones had it as well. there just isn't any point to potions when health can be obtained so easily, it's the only thing that makes the shops/rupees even make sense design wise.

This game has probably the most overpowered spin attack in the series and the GCN version can spam it unlike the Wii version.
