How much longer will it be before FROM moves on from the rollslop gameplay of 2009s demon souls? Isn’t there a better way to handle third person action combat other than iframe abuse?

Monster Hunter
Yeah MH has always had better combat but with wirebugs it’s no contest at all
Dont like it
MH has always been iframe abuse.
How when it has fuck all iframes before skill investment and hitboxes that last until the heat death of the universe so you have to do shit like align the outside of your left eye socket with Tigrex's third right most testicle hair at a 45 degree angle to be able to dodge the charge.
skill issue
Nothing I said was wrong
Monster Hunter objectively has less iframes than souls games
Doesn't mean that the game doesn't center around i-frame abuse
I don't know man, I feel like positioning plays a much bigger role. Even to use the iframes you need to have better positioning than in the souls games, where you can blindly iframe most attacks.
And there are plenty of elden ring playthroughs you can see where people didn't roll a single time through the whole game, what is your point here?
>Shit ass animations on purpose for ""realism""
FUCK NO
Hopefully never, rolling is kino, there’s a reason every other game does it now
elden ring is dogshit. stop making threads about it.
source: i played the shit.
>played a dogshit game 800hrs
sure thing retard
yes? i had to let it marinate before judging. or else i would be riding a hate bandwagon. just like you ride the bandwagon of pretending to like it.
no. you played it for 800hrs because you like it. no one invests that much time into a game they dont like.
Anon stop falling for the bait
>i had to let it marinate before judging
It took my best friend 20 minutes to refund because he's an RTSfag who doesn't like RPGs, you clearly are a retarded autist if it took you 800 hours.
Nah. You have to let art simmer before judging. sometimes is takes a while to click. but after giving it a fair chance, i can only say that its decent at its best moments. an overall 5/10.
let me sodomize you for 800hrs. if you say no, you're a hypocrite.
no nuance.
you are a braindead zoomer. you only like elden ring because your favorite streamer made a onions face at it. its shit. i have 800 shitty hours of proof that its shit. get your own opinions for once.
that's cute and all but i want to sodomize you for 800hrs to see if you enjoy it.
i have enough experience with that already to know that i would not. but classic elden chud talking about gay sex.
but you haven't done it for 800hrs. you can't really be sure if you like it or not yet. besides, it wouldn't be gay, it's just experimenting.
both of you are wrong and likely underage and
is correct and i would give him a cold beer
to properly review something, to actually have your own isolated opinion on something that has no influence from the outside world, this requires great patience and a temporary symbioses with the art
800hrs, if legit, is more than most people will ever play of any game.
Anyone that plays 800hrs of something has no right to complain about any of its quality. Apparently it was entertaining enough for you to play it for literally over 1 month straight.
low attention span zoomer detected.
as an actual adult with social life, it's almost impossible to get 800 hours in any new game
>adult
>gets his opinions from his favorite twitch streamers and reddit posts
yeah... you might be fully developed, but you aren't an adult. not really.
No-life derelict detected.
EU4 is a game that has been out for 10 years now. I've played an unhealthy amount of it, over the years.
And I'm still far off from 800hrs on a game that came out a year ago.
No one that dumps 800hrs into a game has a right to complain about it.
ok. I also play eu4. and I can tell you that it is a good game. i can only say that though, because i devoted a few hundred hours to letting it marinate. same with elden ring, except the hours spent with elden ring were dull and meaningless.
>marinate
Retard, you're fucking fermented at this point.
2400hrs in two games is insane.
>I was entertained for over 1 month irl time by this game now I'm mad
so... your mad that i have more hours in it, and that i KNOW, and can prove how shit elden slop is. whats wrong? mad that you cant use the excuse that i never played it?
I'm mad because you're either so autistic or retarded that at some point before putting a lifetime's worth of time into this game, you didn't figure out that you "didn't like it".
Like genuinely it makes me mad that you're going to complain about the quality of something that you dumped >10 years worth of regular play into within 12 months. Literally more than 1/12th of your last year was pumped into Elden Ring.
You aren't even a good critic despite the massive amount of experience because you're clearly an irrational individual.
kir youlserf.
your mad that i dont buy into the bandwagon and it makes you insecure, because you know that you yourself dont even like it that much.
I don't care whether you like it or hate it at a base level.
I do care that you're going to pretend that you have any right to hate something that entertained you for that long.
Letting a game "marinate" means putting in another 5-10 hours to get to the next boss. Not seeing if you spend the entire rest of your year playing it whenever you have free time whether it will click. At that point you've just fallen in love with the experience.
Anon... thats what im saying. it DIDN'T entertain me for 800 hours. you dont seem to get that. it was SHIT for 800 hours. get it through your head.
not. every. one. likes. to. ride. your. band. wag. on.
Why. The. Fuck. Would. You. Play. A. Game. You. Disliked. For. That. Long.
Are. You. Mentally. Disabled.
If you don't like a game and want to give it the old college try regardless, you might put in 20 hrs. Get through a couple bosses and then call it a day.
You don't play a lifetime's worth of it. Are you fucking mental?
because i believe that you have to let art marinate before judging it.
>bait
Pathetic gay
>genuinely this autistic
Pathetic gay
You’re a retard either way
>Anon... thats what im saying. it DIDN'T entertain me for 800 hours. you dont seem to get that. it was SHIT for 800 hours. get it through your head.
>not. every. one. likes. to. ride. your. band. wag. on.
I played SWTOR for over 500 hours to review the game. Every second was unenjoyable, even the character creation screen. I had to force myself to stop doing other hobbies I actually enjoyed, to keep playing that fucking shitty game so I could see the end-game content and finally put it to rest. I finally did last year, and put it to rest permanently. I had to drink some nights to keep playing the game.
You will never understand why some people need to do things like this, just like how I'll never understand why you seem to have a complete lack of critical thought.
I've watched films and read books/manga/comics I hated for the sake of reviewing them or understanding them for discussion purposes.
But none of these were ever multi-hundred hour experiences. At most it took 15-20 hours for me to either say, "fuck it, I'm done", or be finished anyhow. Because I'm not mentally disabled and lack any respect for my time.
Critical thought lets you say after you spend a few evenings playing a game and not enjoying the experience that you're not going to suddenly start loving it after dedicating 6 months of your life to it instead.
Critical thought says that instead of drinking yourself into a stupor so you can sit through a B-list film cash-in MMO, you'd realize early on that it wasn't going to be fun after you didn't have fun playing it. Then you'd spend an hour or two figuring out why before going and playing a game that you actually liked instead.
Fucking hell.
theres more to life than that anon.
More to life than what, enjoying your hobbies?
If you don't like playing a game, figuring out the hows and whys and discussing that after a few dozen hours is more logical and uses more 'critical thought' than spending >500 hours grinding away at it only to end with the same opinion that yeah, you didn't like it.
I don't like Ganker dramas like The Sopranos. Not my media form or format of choice, nor do I care for the storylines in it. I can tell this by watching the first 3 episodes of the show and seeing that fundamentally its built for people with different tastes than me. I'm not going to grind through the entire show, ~90 hours of it, just to end it by saying, "yeah I didn't like that". I'd be fucking retarded to do that.
Thats 1/10th of what Elden Ring dude did, or 1/5th of Star Wars guy's time spent.
>NOOOOOOOOO YOUR RETARDED IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT, YOU HAVE TO LIKE IT!!!!!! MY FAVORITE STREAMER MADE A POGGCHAMP FACE!!!!!! HE DID!!!!! ITS A 10!!!!! GAME OF THE DECAADE!!!!!!
zoomie.
If you don't like something, don't dump a lifetime's worth of play into it.
I don't like Diablo or dungeon crawlers in general. I put a few dozen hours into Diablo and Diablo 2 in the past to see if I could make it click, and neither did.
I didn't spend 1/10th of my year burning the candle at both ends so I could come to the conclusion that I didn't enjoy the games.
anon... is 800 hours a lifetime to you?... how long have you been alive? 12 years?
Its a lifetime of play for any given game. Its the amount of time you can expect someone to put into a game in their entire lifetime playing normally.
Most people won't ever put that many hours into a game. Very few games are designed to be played that long either. Even bloated modern WRPGs that are designed to be long for the sake of being long take 'only' a few hundred hours to beat with only 100% collectathon challenge runs stretching beyond that.
There are too many good games in the world, and too many good books, films, comics, other hobbies, to willingly burn a month's worth of time playing a game that you don't like.
15-20 hours is not enough time to explore every nook and cranny of the land, every context for mechanical play, every line said, every story element woven, every weapon placed, every animation created, every enemy moveset, every playstyle, every way to play. When I review a game, I can only do so after exploring every single element the game has on offer. I truly mean every element. I will spend 50 hours figuring out where every map hole or invisible wall is. I will write down every pattern of every enemy and how/if they react to certain weapons, armours, potions etc.
How can you truthfully critique something beyond a blurry surface level evaluation if you haven't truly lived in that something? You cannot.
You are a normalgay. You will never understand.
There's definitely an extent to which you can simulate, picture or understand things on a conceptual level, even in a practical manner.
You don't need 800 hours of literally eating shit to know why it's bad or why you wouldn't like it, chances are you haven't eaten shit even once but I doubt you would if I told you to.
at least you admit that elden ring is like shit.
I wouldn't go that far, but of course Ganker can't think beyond the literal. Good job, child, clap clap you're so smart.
I don't agree with you.
Okay, go eat literal shit for a couple hours and tell me how you've come to the conclusion that it may be kind of bad but need a bit more time with it for a real decision.
I can wait for 800 hours of you having enough experience eating your own feces to have figured out it sucks.
What the fuck are you talking about now retard? Why are you going on on these hissy fits about shit and eating shit? "Lol bro, if it takes you that much time to analyze a game, that means it would also take you the same amount of time to analyze if shooting yourself in the foot is painful". You really do have the thought capacity of a plastic eating fish. I'm going to play Deus Ex now.
holy fuck you're gay as hell, do you also need 100 hours to know shit smells bad?
Shit smells bad immediately, because it is shit, and we're biologically programmed to know not to go near shit, because shit is bad. What does shit have to do with things like art and games? Stop using analogies or whatever the fuck and talk to me normally.
I've seen this phenomena a few times, both IRL and online. Someone with a very impressive amount of time in something will give a critique on something within that something, whether it be film, vehicles, video games, anything.
Then suddenly, normalgayS will get upset with this person. IRL they often do it far more passive aggressively, online they will freely display their retardation.
The end result is that any real, passionate reviewer and thinker will be shunned and the normalgayS will attempt to make them feel bad about their unique ability to patiently analyze.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, you are are angry at this anon for having a far greater capacity for thought than you, normalgay, will ever have.
You bring up a life. This is this anon's life, to analyze and think. NormalgayS do not spend hundreds among hundreds of hours to come to a conclusion on something. Unique individuals do, the same unique individuals that build rocket ships, engineer trains, create true art and generally progress humanity further.
That may seem to silly to say, since we're talking about anon's thoughts on Elden Ring. But really, think about it. To do a feat like this is unnatural to the normalgay, but totally necessary for the thinker.
I'm 90% sure you're being same fagged or trolled with some shitty Ganker joke. 800 hours fag is clearly retarded.
newwfag detected. i love how elden chuds call any critics trolls. they genuinly cant accept that some of us see through it.
jaded 40 something been here 17 years and can never leave type, completely sick of you retards shitting up a place where we shared video game hentai until good moot sanitised the boards to appeal to the perpetually offended psueds like you.
I’m inclined to believe him. He gave it a chance, played the fuck out of it, and has concluded he doesn’t like it. Why is this so controversial? Obviously he is no life but he’s spent more time with the game than 99% of people and found that he hates it
because 800 hours is an insane amount of time to put in to something you think is dogshit. 20 hours? sure. 50 hours? fine. but 800 hours? come the fuck on, the dude is clearly mentally ill
Stop, he is just playing with you, why havent you guys learned to ignore obvious baits?
I bite every bait. Especially the obvious ones.
>No one that dumps 800hrs into a game has a right to complain about it.
Wrong, they have more rights to it than Ganker that doesn't even play games all together and just whine about everything
these are rookie numbers
exactly. the art has to boil. it has to cook. it has to fry before you really know what you think about it. You have to let it steam before you flippantly say "game bad!"!!!.
Basically, you have to let it braise. and after playing 800 shitty hours, i know that i dont like the taste
>Play sub 2 hours so you can refund because the game sucks
>DUH opinion discarded u didn't even beated it!!!
>Play it for almost a thousand hours so you can confidently and autistically pick apart what's wrong with the game
>UH THAT MUST MEAN YOU ACTUALLY LOVE THE GAME LOL LOL LOL
This is actual homo "if you're phobic then you must actually be phillic" logic.
>confidently and autistically pick apart what's wrong with the game
>played for 800 hours and all he can say is "it's shit"
i've seen better critique from anons with 0 hours
>800 hours
>not 100%'d
You didn't beat the game
>turning games into a shopping list
yeah... you dont like video games. you just like killing time. thats all.
A. You are either mentally ill or retard for playing 800 hours. You don't even need 100 to decide if its shit.
B. Larping on Ganker as an elden ring hater while in the closet its probably your gotg
Pick your poison. No one puts 800 hours in a game that they think is shit fucking idiot. And if you really did please rope yourself that level of time wasting on something you see as shit is wasteful to all the people who invested time in your life fucking homo.
I don't need i-frames to beat these games, the dodge roll is suppose to get you out of harms way. I-frame abuse is for panic spam rollers and they deserved to be punished playing like this, like how I played Dark souls for the first time when i still wasnt very good
>___slop
>buzzword bait thread
>twitter screencap thread
>political thread
>coomer bait thread
Slopslop
Sekiro literally doesn't have rolling at all retard.
Considering Fromsoft is doing better than it's ever been, more and more games are adopting i-frame dodges, and Elden Ring is dope, maybe you should consider you might be the wrong one
Bloodborne evasion and the Sekiro parry system were both cool, some sort of system that implements all of those as different playstyles or has a duck that evades under high swings and relies on backsteps and side to side dodges for contextually dodging other attacks could be cool.
In Devil May Cry you can use Royalguard to parry any attack in the game, jump to avoid attacks, side roll that requires more skill than From's rolls, or use Trickster style to dash and teleport. Play a game with real combat mechanics
I don't like press x to stylish or reflex based shit, sorry.
Also, you don't win fans or get attention for your game by being a douche.
Having played hundreds of hours of both Souls games and DMC games (and loving both in their own ways), you should try it out if you're looking for more combat depth
Not my thing, but thanks for the suggestion
The Nioh games and Wo Long almost get there.
I like that the timing and direction of the dodge matter
adding the jump half i-frames makes the combat surprisingly fresh
>direction of the dodge matter
On a lot of attacks it literally does not if you use the i-frames. The tracking is too aggressive to only rely on the distance of your roll.
A surprising amount of attacks can also be dodged by running backwards or on the side, because you don't lose as much speed as when rolling.
Jumping requires you to know if the attack sweeps low or not, so when fighting a boss the first time, you're not gonna risk it. It's the same problem with parries, some attacks can be parried, others not and there's almost no tell about that. If you parry successfully an attack that can't be parried, you still lose HP+STA despite that the parry should have been good.
Also I think there's a problem with the boss AI in general due to a lack of polish. Bosses will sometimes just stare at you and do nothing while waiting for your inputs, but also once they start attacking they sometimes barely ever stop. It's hard to tell which move they'll do, you'll go for a heavy attack after a long combo and they'll whip out a super quick stab. Or they'll do the same attack over and over.
The problem is that it feels inconsistent and unintuitive in some cases. In the same game as 360 no scope magnetic tracking from across the room you have the ability to avoid attacks completely with the slight duck after a jump attack or during a charged r2. It's a rather jarring contrast and after being beaten like a dog into accepting the former you wouldn't even think to do the latter naturally. I only found that out because I got sick and tired on some bosses waiting for openings and just mashed jump attack.
There is LITERALLY no way to tell which attacks can be jumped.
by testing them. or looking at them. zoomer
There is no visual consistency. Plenty of "sweeping" attacks hit you in the air. No one is going to suicide test every attack.
their next game is a mecha game, retard
why are trannies so unhinged today? what got them this pissy?
Adding slop onto words just makes you look like a gay. Goyslop was funny for about a week but now it inspired all you Retards to add it to any word instead of actually making a point.
What's up with that combat system from For Honor? It was pretty cool with the directional parries. Did Ubislop patented that too? It was the only good thing that came out of Ubisoft for the last 20 years.
I'm saying this because its the only other cool 3rd person combat option that isnt Soulslike iframes or DMCs CUHRAZEEY Hack'n'Slash.
Here's to 20 more years of rollkino
Souls combat peaked with 2, rolling was effective enough to get you out of range of most hitbox strings but costly enough to make the player rethink when and where he wanted to use it, as there are legitimate situations in 2 better served by playing footsies just outside of attack range OR closing the gap with a shield. The combat didn't become a meme until Bloodborne.
2 had some of the worst movement in the series though, arguably the outright worst.
2's combat was a step down from both 3 and 1, in different ways, and is obviously a step down from elden ring in everything but fairness.
2 is the only game where you have to think while playing. the others you can be braindead because of how many iframes you get. especially three.
You could argue you had to think while playing 1, more reactive, faster gameplay is only a staple of 3 and elden ring.
2 still has by far the worst actual gameplay mechanics.
but... why?
Why?
Ok, lets get into it then.
2 has the most imprecise hitboxes in the series with the most screenshottable moments of something that should absolutely not be happening happening.
The movement is sluggish and unresponsive, even coming off of dark souls 1, and makes you feel like you're wading through water or gelatin the entire fucking game, this even carries into the weapon swings, which just feel ridiculously slow for no reason.
The basic walk speed in combat is awkward and has a terrible animation.
Why the fuck are basic iframes and healing animation speed tied to a fucking stat?
Why do you need a certain amount of points in a stat to make the game work how it should as a baseline?
Backsteps with iframes were a mistake, and so was the fucking monscim banana, the pvp is among the easiest broken in the series and one of the hardest to take seriously.
The healing, healing gems were absolutely fucking stupid, infinite and you could use them while moving.
>imprecise hitboxes
same as ds1 and demon souls. next
>sluggish, moving though water
reddit/youtuber opinion. next
>weird animation
gameplay> visuals. next
>why iframes tied to stat
why is hp tied to a stat? or stamina? or damage? becuase its an rpg you silly bastard. also, reddit. next
>pvp bad
trans
>healing gems
grass, humanity, blood vials, super speed estus from three and elon ring, also, reddit. next?
oh, thats all you've got. how about thinking for yourself.
>how about thinking for yourself.
It's funny that you say this while parroting low effort shit to defend a game you only like because it was so disappointing that liking it became contrarian, which is to say that it's popular on Ganker.
It's incredibly ironic to see someone subscribed to a hivemind view talk about thinking for themselves.
bullshit. i played it blind before ever seeing what the fanbase thought of it. i enjoyed it without any outside perspective. unlike you, who started with ds3 and where spoonfed your opinion on 2 before starting it.
I started with ds1 and was disappointed when I played ds2 because of how much it was played up and how much worse it was.
It was still fun, but it was like a diluted version of what I wanted.
>started with anything after demon souls
yeah... your proving my point. you will always be a secondary.
The moment you lvl ADP to at least 15 this ceases to be the case. The dodge in DaS2 is far better than anything but the fast-roll in DaS1 until you approach your heaviest possible load. The enemies are also even more sluggish in DaS2 than 1. The final nail in the coffin is the appalling 8-direcitonal movement with massive deadzones, which secures DaS2 as the Souls game with the worst gameplay, no-contest.
solly, i meant you. kir youllserf.
>The final nail in the coffin is the appalling 8-direcitonal movement with massive deadzones,
This is what kills it for me, along with the purposely sabotaging lock on that will literally go out of its way to troll you by switching to an enemy 30 meters away from the one currently in your face.
It's been over a year. How many years will pass before you can get this game you don't like out of your head?
Elden 2 or DS4 which do you fellers want?
>some dude gave my mom a Ranni candle he made
What
they already did
when you take off your bib, wipe your mouth, stand up, and stop tonguing my anus on a daily basis and sometimes twice on weekends
Absolver had a fun as fuck parrying mechanic, wish there was more like that. You had to get the timing and the direction right to completely negate an attack. Some bosses required you to parry several times in a row to break their chain, and after that it's your turn to attack. One boss in particular could also do those parries and the fight was a crazy kung fu parry chain
we can all agree that ds3 is shit at least. well maybe not shit, but its the fast food of souls games for sure. edible, and kinda tasty but... you know.
In that case Elden Ring is also fast food and worse at that than DS3
...we get it, you started with 3. that makes you... 16? yeah, not interested in arguing with a child.
Better than 2 in terms of combat, better than Elden Ring for that matter too.
DS3 sucks
true.
bleak faith
Rolling is fun. Every game should have a roll dodge.
demon souls is fucking trash and only subhuman gays who can't get git gud like it
they did it with Sekiro and you retards complained that it's just a rhythm game
rollmorons are the cancer of gaming
FROM needs to make Sekiro 2. I'm so fucking tired of roll souls, especially when the bosses get to do all the fucking cool shit while you look like a dickhead no matter what due to commitment in animations vs. recovery time.
>rollslop
okay that's kinda funny. made me exhale.
It's almost fucking everywhere now. 9 out of 10 actions game that I play have rollslop as i-frame. Fucking devs are creative bankrupt that they just stick to whatever popular to stay afloat.
They already took a break from roll focused gameplay. It was called Sekiro. I definitely think Elden Ring could have benefitted from a similar system. Or at least something that rewards a focus on blocking and parrying with rolling being an opportunistic thing like jumping to avoid particular attacks, not your designated i-frames button for when a boss is doing a combo.
