The currency in Pokemon is based off yen, which are more equivalent to cents for pricing. So it would be 2 dollars each.
Closer to $1 now that the yen is worthless monopoly money.
So is it cheaper to import weebshit like figures right now with the new skew on the rate? Or have they just inflated the prices to compensate.
No, international sales are based on the current exchange rate
All money is failing.
So how does Japan stay ahead of the entire world in terms of quality of life and technology when their currency is at meme status?
I mean, it's the equivalent of if we viewed the penny as the basic USD unit. Japan could decide to call 100 yen "1 Nihon dollar" and there you go.
They don't, most of them still use windows XP
>most of them still use windows XP
Yeah. As I said, ahead of the entire world in terms of quality and technology.
That sounds very unlikely.
Thousands.
Pretty cheap since it can be mass produce.
It's not about how many can be produced, it's about how many are available on the market.
Where they would get you is in pet registration fees. Sure you can catch anything you want, but to keep it in your team? Pay up buttercup.
Pets dont need to be feed or anything in there, right? Realistically it will be something around 100000 each (at least) Tech too great for our reality
They eat? I thought the balls just kept them in suspended animation. Like they just blink AND months of sitting in the PC go by.
They have to do something in there to rest. Otherwise their lives are just battlebattlebattlebattlebattle and that has to take a toll on them.
I'm pretty sure in the show they take Pokemon out of balls to feed them. If they could eat and heal in the balls half of Brock's character would be pointless.
$399 plus with PokePay services which keep the contents of the ball restricted to vendor approved pokemon, $35 per month fee in order to make sure the ball still deploys, connects to PCs, dispenses advertising slogans on capture, etc.
I have no idea how Pokemon world works so I assume it's like owning a gun but without the police checks.
the technology requires trillions to be invented first
SOVL
they were created from fricking nuts
Nah
Propaganda.
It's obvious the world of pokemon is a high-tech society where adults facilitate a coming-of-age "adventure" LARP for kids and the pokemon themselves are some sort of advanced technological projection.
I dunno if the pokeballs actually do anything. They're probably just fricking empty plastic shells.
first time I’ve read a vidya theory that actually makes sense
People forget who the original devs were. I've always thought it was something like this, with some existential philosophy stuff japs love thrown in and the backstory the first game hinted at about a war and secret experiments being the reason they do it all. And/or aliens may be involved.
But yeah Red's mom probably put on a team rocket outfit for some other kid the moment he stepped out the door.
probably like 7 billion dollars each
Has multiple factors but I’d imagine a regular pokeball would cost probably as much as a new iphone
>buy pokeball
>use it to catch Pokémon
>breaks before catch goes thru
>no returns
How is this even legal?
>buy condom
>use it to frick women
>breaks before catching jizz
>no returns
wtf?
Condoms have a 99% success rate though and are much cheaper than a pokeball. It’s like if you bought a new phone and it broke the moment you tried turning it on.
Ok, then
>buy grenade
>miss my target
>it explodes anyway
>no return
If you fail to catch a Pokémon it's your fault. Deal with it.
as a brand new technology it would cost ridiculous amounts
Canonically Pokemon all just have a natural ability to shrink and the ball isn't doing anything too fancy. It's moronic, but canon is canon.
that doesn't change the fact that big tech is israeli and would gouge the frick out of the prices
And that's a good thing. Goyim aren't supposed to have money. All the money in the world belongs to Israel.
You can make them out of acorns.
I hate this fact. It's an innate ability Pokemon has, but minimize is such a rare ability.
Yeah, the "SHRINK" meme is the only cope that Pokemon could come up with when they went 3D open world.
They needed something to make the pokemon who fainted in 2D disappear from the open world without looking like they are dead (kid's game)
How would you have done it?
just make them fade out or vanish in a puff of smoke and never mention it. like every other kids game where the main character destroys people or monsters and isnt labeled a psychopath. or hell, even in the other pokemon rpgs.
why is it only now a moral shenanigan?
My favorite take is that they naturally are capable of transforming into a form of energy that has data of them stored in a digital manner, and that the apricorn based balls are capable of storing that without signal loss.
In an age before computers, this was just interpreted as them simply shrinking, but the method of doing so wasn't understood.
This lowers the overall level of tech needed for things to work, while still allowing modern tech to improve it. It would probably be something doable today if facing a creature capable of such a shift.
Minimize is rare because it actually involves body shrinkage without energy conversion.
It's autistic but i hate this, i can't imagine a pokemon just naturally grow like Wailord and then magically shrink.
I would rather no answer at all or the ball being magical tech
I really doubt anyone thinks that was a good idea. The only problem is that gen 2 already had low-tech balls which can't make much sense without some extra non-tech magic.
That's moronic and a retcon for that shitty game and that doesn't explain pkmn being digitized for pc storage
>and that doesn't explain pkmn being digitized for pc storage
The PC digitizes them just like how it digitizes your items. How do you morons not get this?
Shrinking has been canon since 1996
Just because you didn't know about it doesn't mean it was a retcon
No, I'm well aware of the move. But the fact that a wild, untamed pokemon uses this move (subconsciously?) to help encourage you to enslave it in a small ball is a little weird, logistically. So, it still makes very little sense
Not every mon can learn it either.
Black folk will say that the anime is not canon but than when you point out pokemon don't shrink in the pokemon special manga they get real fricking quiet
The Pokemon special manga isn't canon either.
>/pol/cels will out themselves as morons
everytime
>you have to be pol to say Black person now
the frick? how new are you Black person?
>t. election tourists
Frick off tourist
Did you forget that Apricorns have existed since Gold and Silver?
that's just the raw material you are never shown the process or how its build just hand over the material and get the pokeball
Not him, but I did, and I never had a problem with that. I thought it was pretty cool, actually.
Than how come that Marowak didn't shrink when Team Rocket was beating it to death?
Because nobody takes it seriously. The shrinking thing has existed in lore, but it only happens when it's convenient.
The design of the ball is ancient but modern technology to turn them into energy/data is, well, modern.
Think about it. Why did the people who supposedly invented the modern Pokeball, Silph Co., also make Porygon? Because they'd just figured out how to digitize Pokemon via a new type of Pokeball. Presumably the advent of the digitalization process is what let them make new designer types of Pokeball like the Master Ball.
But being that they're ludicrously expensive to produce, I can only imagine they would've remained niche had Bill not taken the concept and ran it all the way to "digital Pokemon storage that allows instant global transmission", thus creating a more approachable entry point and thus making a trend of Pokemon interacting with electronics and computers.
tl;dr: Silph Co. invented a new type of niche Pokeball mostly intended for luxury and specialist applications; Bill took the concept and gave it mass market appeal, then Silph moved in on this new market.
Porygon is a multilayered gag Pokemon. Game Freak made this primitive 2D game for the Game Boy in an era where 3D gaming was already kicking off, but the game still contains a monster made out of 3D polygons. At the same time, in-universe Silph Co just casually figured out how to make a living being by writing machine code. Did they figure out they live in a simulation and find a way to edit it, or what?
>Did they figure out they live in a simulation and find a way to edit it, or what?
I've always assumed it was related to the fact pokeballs digitize Pokemons and they could analyze that data and go from there
Depends what's in them
https://e621.net/posts/3582981
In all seriousness, they should be free.
Something that, if you threw it hard enough, could instantly transport mass & matter that is comparatively humongous inside itself, essentially freezing all time along with it? It also tames wild animals and mind-controls them into slavery.
>poke balls have a % failure rate by design
>you can pay even more for ones that have a lower %
>the tech for poke balls that always work already exists
fricking ~~*poke market*~~
you get what you pay for
why would they sell you the better product for the same price as the worse one
or are you one of them commies that think companies should only be allowed to make stuff for the benefit of mankind and not charge for their services, labor, and cost of materials?
>low to mid-range technology in a world with matter teleportation
>cheap enough for children to own, but used by professionals
Probably sold in packs for the price of a decent pair of headphones. Kids would get them for their birthdays, but anyone with a job could easily buy them whenever they want.

About tree fiddy
$1.
Maybe $2.
In bulk.
>in real life Kurt would've been sued out the ass by Silph Co for manufacturing unlicensed pokeballs
If you throw it and it doesn’t catch, what happens to the ball? Does it just disappear? Or does it not work anymore and you just throw it away? In the game it just disappears from your inventory, but in real life, wouldn’t you just keep retrying until you catch a Pokémon?
The Pokemon forcibly breaks out of it. Any spring/hinge/locking mechanisms the ball had are ruined. It's a $2 product so attempting to fix it is pointless, too. You just throw it away.
They wouldn't be sold publicly. They would be used as a military anti-personnel weapon to incapacitate enemies and return them later for a ransom.
About tree fiddy.
Why don't they work on people?
Restriction built into the ball. Same reason why they can't capture a Pokemon that is already "registered" to another trainer. You'd think a villain organization would make custom balls without the restrictions though.
Even in Pokemon Colosseum they gloss over how the snagem machine works or why its necessary to imbue pokemons with stealing energy to catch a pokemon a second time
Isn’t it becuase Pokémon are different from regular life forms in that they are partly data and can be transferred as such? That’s why they have things like regular animals that aren’t Pokémon, because they don’t possess that data part of their genetics?
I don't think "they are partly data" is a thing. And that's even if I buy into the absolute bullshit that Legends Arceus tried to push about "Pokeballs can work by leveraging Pokemon's ability to shrink down in size" (when we all know it's the pokeball that is doing the shrinking).
Then why do we store them in a PC and can transfer them over the internet?
I think the pokemon converts them into energy or data and the PC sends it over. I don't think Pokemon themselves are naturally data creatures. I remember one episode where pokeball accidently caught a jelly donut (rice ball), and no one is going to argue that was data.
I think the pokeball converts*
Humans aren't Pokemon. The games are too lazy to explain why or where the rest of the animals fricked off too.
Aren't there regular birds in one of the movies?
>anime
If it was one of the shows that actually represent the games then I’d be swayed
D/P/P explains that Humans ARE Pokemon that were created by arceus. all connected to mew.
i have had the shrinking argument 10,000 times on /vp/. it is impossible to convince energyhomosexuals that they have been wrong for 26 years
Because they weren't wrong. There a lot of evidence showing it was the pokeball, not the pokemon, that does the shrinking. Legend Arceus is just making a silly retcon.
>a lot of evidence
show me literally one shred that doesnt come from shudo's fanfic
I don't know who Shudo is, but:
1) The pokeball is able to capture things that are not Pokemon (when Mankey deflects Ash's Pokeball with a rice ball, and the rice ball gets turned into energy, obviously by the pokeball and not by its own power), including things that are too big too fit inside (when Mewtwo's pokeballs capture equally-sized pokeballs, which must have shrinking involved)
2) If every pokemon is able to shrink, there are hundreds of cases where that ability could have been useful, but it was never used.
3) Why do only some pokemon have the ability to use Minimize if all Pokemon can shrink?
4) Why would a pokemon that doesn't want to be captured shrink itself?
etc
>I don't know who Shudo is
he made the anime
>1) The pokeball is able to capture things that are not Pokemon (when Mankey deflects Ash's Pokeball with a rice ball, and the rice ball gets turned into energy, obviously by the pokeball and not by its own power), including things that are too big too fit inside (when Mewtwo's pokeballs capture equally-sized pokeballs, which must have shrinking involved)
shudo fanfic
>2) If every pokemon is able to shrink, there are hundreds of cases where that ability could have been useful, but it was never used.
not evidence and sounds like you're talking about the anime again
>3) Why do only some pokemon have the ability to use Minimize if all Pokemon can shrink?
>4) Why would a pokemon that doesn't want to be captured shrink itself?
questions aren't evidence and the shrinking + curling up is usually an involuntary instinctive response to danger. all signs point to the pokeball inducing the shrinking state by triggering the instinct
>5) How can a fainted pokemon be put into the ball? If it's not the pokeball that's shrinking them, how are they shrinking themselves when unconscious?
they can't, when pokemon faint they leave the battle
meanwhile, evidence for shrinking:
>canon lorebook describes it
>PLA describes it
>tajiri's concept art depicts it
>the manga, tajiri's preferred fanfic, depicts it
>the games depict it
Oh, so your argument is "Every single official anime episode is fanfic" when that is the big source that contradicts you. How convenient.
>the shrinking + curling up is usually an involuntary instinctive response to danger. all signs point to the pokeball inducing the shrinking state by triggering the instinct
I would say why are they never ever depicted doing that outside of the context of being captured by a pokeball, but I imagine "fanfic" is your response.
>they can't, when pokemon faint they leave the battle
By being put back in their ball.
>canon lorebook describes it
Which book?
>PLA describes it
Which contradicts other sources, but yes.
>tajiri's concept art depicts it
True, but concept art isn't canon.
>the manga, tajiri's preferred fanfic, depicts it
When? Because I know the manga also depicts that they never ever shrink when the pokemon in situations where you would expect them to have "an involuntary instinctive response to danger".
>the games depict it
When?
not either of you but I remember when PLA came out and the nips were confused that westerners didnt know because all of them knew that pokemon could shrink already
>Oh, so your argument is "Every single official anime episode is fanfic" when that is the big source that contradicts you. How convenient.
game staff have never had creative input on the anime ergo it is non canon
>I would say why are they never ever depicted doing that outside of the context of being captured by a pokeball, but I imagine "fanfic" is your response.
if you mean in the anime, then yes, fanfic
>By being put back in their ball.
i thought you meant wild pokemon, sorry. i cant answer that one, and obviously not every situation has been covered in canon sources
>Which book?
https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%9D%E3%82%B1%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E3%83%A2%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E5%9B%B3%E9%91%91/dp/4893664948
>Which contradicts other sources, but yes.
you concede
>True, but concept art isn't canon.
you kneel
>When? Because I know the manga also depicts that they never ever shrink when the pokemon in situations where you would expect them to have "an involuntary instinctive response to danger".
pic related
>When?
when pokemon go in and out of battle
btw, in sword/shield:
>Shrinking down to fit in Poké Balls, and the next thing you know, growing massive by Dynamaxing... It must be a lot of work for Pokémon!
>game staff have never had creative input on the anime ergo it is non canon
The anime staff were given the material for the basis for crafting the mechanics of the world...but not how the ball or pokemon work. Seems legit.
>sorry. i cant answer that one
Because there is no good answer if the shrinking is how you (and modern / old old official sources) claim. It only makes sense if it's the ball that is doing it. It is also the only explanation for why there is not a single source whatsoever showing or describing Pokemon shrinking outside of the context of a capture situation (since apparently you are disregarding the Minimize problem) or when they are captured when not weak (You can capture a strong Pokemon in the games at full health. You can't pass the bullshit they it instinctively shrink when some rando kid threw a tiny ball at all; they have no reason to do that then)
Oh, that one. Yes, that one does say it. It just seemed long "retconned" itself by other material.
>pic related
Pic related show them shrunken. It doesn't indicate whether they shrunk themselves or if the ball did it.
>when pokemon go in and out of battle
Same as above. Nothing in the game indicates if its the ball or the Pokemon themselves that are doing it.
>btw, in sword/shield:
I am including that as part of the modern retconning.
i already won so i'll keep this victory lap short and sweet
>you are disregarding the Minimize problem
pokemon that can learn minimize can trigger shrinking at will, those that can't can't
>You can capture a strong Pokemon in the games at full health
as i said, balls trigger the instinct to curl up and shrink
thank you don't come again goodbye
>i already won
I accept your concession.
>pokemon that can learn minimize can trigger shrinking at will, those that can't can't
If this is a statemen you think makes any sense whatsoever, no wonder you bought the argument.
>as i said, balls trigger the instinct to curl up and shrink
Then why is there not a single piece a media that shows pokemon shrinking when not being captured if this supposed instictual involuntary response exists? 20+ years of media and not a single example of a Pokemon instinctually shrinking when not captured? They all happen to only shrink when the ball is thrown at them? What a load of boloney.
I forgot another notable one.
5) How can a fainted pokemon be put into the ball? If it's not the pokeball that's shrinking them, how are they shrinking themselves when unconscious?
40 dollars
I always assumed there was just a lot of underground tubes connecting all the pokemon centers and if you put a ball into one of them you were really storing your pokemon in like a big storage section and then you could call it from any other center or otherwise they would just have mailmen/mailpokemon that would deliver all the pokemon after they had been requested, he didnt deliver any pokemon but there was a mailman dragonite in one of the movies
Kind of hard to really estimate considering how outlandish the tech is and how durable they need to be, but then again pokeballs in a world with pokemon would be mass produced and subsidized to hell and back and hell again.
I would probably estimate a pokeball's price as being like 10-15$ ish, in the same ballpark as like a good quality flash drive or something.
Also holy hell how autistic do you have to be to deny that pokemon shrink.
>pokeballs cost 200 pokebucks
>mail costs 50 pokebucks
I assume mail is just like a fancy envelope with 1 piece of fancy paper which shouldnt be much more than 50 cents so I think 2 dollars per pokeball seems about right
The only reason why the Pokemon people went with the stupid "Pokemon shrink themselves" stance is just so they have a plausible explanation for how a Wailord and Skitty can breed. Or I guess how an baby Onix fits inside of an egg the same size as a Cleffa egg, assuming Onix babies normally are large in the same way a baby elephant is large.
I thought 100 yen was roughly about $1, and apparently it was around $0.90 to $1 most of the time recently, but now it's like $0.70. What happened?
