Sometimes games come in bundles. I just checked and I have several games I never bought and don’t remember getting.

I don't. "Backlogs" are a cancerous zoomer invention.

a backlog is simply a list of games you want to give a shot but can't because you're busy with another game. literally everyone has a backlog and pretending you don't is moronic.
a backlog is NOT a list of games you own and feel the need to finish even if you dislike them. confusing the two is moronic
      stop being moronic

You probably have very few games then and are an entry level gamer

Third worlders can only collect free games. Maybe once a year they treat themselves to a $5 game during the summer or winter sale.

        >You probably have very few games
Nah, I simply already played all the games I wanted to play and I'm just waiting for new releases or replaying the games I liked the most.

        >a backlog is simply a list of games you want to give a shot but can't because you're busy with another game.
Literally false. The backlog is a list a list of games zoomers feel obliged to play because the internet says so / "because you're supposed to" regardless of them actually wanting to play them. So they treat them as a job, a checklist of things "to do" rather than a hobby and go through them in the most dispassionate way (one run on normal for games that are supposed to be replayed, one run through all the maps on a multiplayer game, one run following a guide or a FAQ to get the best ending on a game that is intended to be replayed or its best ending is intended to be obtained via careful exploration) due to a pathological desire of brag about their big e-penis on that same internet.
Someone who's genuinely passionate about games will suffer from the opposite problem: will run out of games to play.

          >I'm just waiting for new releases
          >zoomers feel obliged to play because the internet says so
          Self contradiction right here
          You are projecting little b***h
My backlog of thousands games is entirely out of games ive seen somethin worth checking out in them
I dont have to beaat them at all to get rid of them, but i need to check them out still

          >Someone who's genuinely passionate about games will suffer from the opposite problem: will run out of games to play.
No, real gamers will come to realization that very few video games are actually worth playing & replaying
          VERY FEW
And almost none of those are modern releases

            >Self contradiction right here
I'm not contradicting myself. I said "new releases", not "all new releases". For example I didn't bother with Dragon's Dogma 2 because I didn't like the first very much; meanwhile I'm looking forward Shadow of the Erdtree, the Lies of P DLC and several new indie games that should release later this year.

            >You are projecting little b***h
Nah, I'm right and you know it. Just look here:

            >I dont have to beaat them at all to get rid of them, but i need to check them out still
            >I need to
Not "I want to", but "I need to". Because you see playing them as an obligation and not something you want to do.

People with huge backlogs the games are mostly indieslop not worth playing anyway. They just se a game being sold cheaper and they must buy it out of impulse. They are just hoarders.

A backlog is a list of games you intend to play to relative completion, not your entire library. Choose a hard cutoff and stick to one at a time.

in a business environment, if you have a huge project backlog, you either drop projects from the backlog because they clearly werent that important, or you dedicate more ressources to those projects, such as by hiring more staff or spending more money. in your case, "more ressources" would mean spending more of your free time playing games. that means you'd sleep less, quit your job, and stop doing your chores, and stop seeing friends and family, to have more time to work on your backlog. or, just drop games from your backlog. good luck

You just need to keep filtering your library every year. My collections
    >Completed (Finished, might go back to in future)
    >Currently Playing (Whatever I'm playing atm)
    >In Progress (Games I haven't finished but have at least a few hours in)
    >Long List (Games I might play in the future)
    >Modded (Games that are too much hassle to uninstall because they're modded e.g. FNV)
    >Multiplayer (Multiplayer games I might want to play)
    >Short List (Games I want to play soon)
    >Trash (Games I never will play)

Let them pile up, have a vague idea of what game i want to play to get it off the backlog, get distracted and replay something else for the 6th time

Just play games, pick one or two to play at a time and play them to completion or until you're done having fun with them, then move on.
