You were supposed to be obsessively watching pre release footage that showed off that you could rotate items in the menu as a big feature.

This. Little do you realize by doing this you just solved every visual puzzle in the game

the guy you take it off of has a diary that tells you that the solution is "in the palm of your hand" or something like that.

but you're holding the claw and it's most likely touching the palm of your hand, unless you're holding it like an autist.

Because I got drunk as shit and was having a blast picking things up and knocking shit off the shop keepers shelves with the golden hand he was proud of and by a 1/100 chance notice the shit on the palm.

Granted I didn't know what the frick it meant for like 20 more hours of frickin around til I made it there

Brilliant design. It's an intuitive tutorial, makes the player ask if they can rotate items in inventory and discover the answer. It also bamboozles people who don't read and don't look for clues when confronted with a puzzle, which is the correct outcome.

Repeating the same trick several times on the other hand...

I remember feeling like the world's biggest moron when I found out the patterns were on the claws. I was reading the symbols on the walls of the hallways trying to discern some kind of pattern and kept ending up brute forcing them.

I never can tell if these threads are genuine. How could it not be blatantly obvious? You picked up a claw, there's a fricking image of a claw. You see the runes, realize it's a password that's on the claw. You look at the claw in the inventory, and voila. Also, isn't there a journal or something that explains it? It's not like rotating items was cutting age tech in fricking 2010 or whatever.

      Anonymous

The threads aren't genuine no but there is a class of people who will never do anything unless they are told. You could have an npc say you can turn items in your inventory and they still couldn't crack the code because nobody told them to spin the claw itself.

    >add code locked door
    >put it into spooky corridor
    >add murals and carvings
    >add key separate to be found separate
    >put the code on the fricking key
It's like putting login and password on the same file. They had the opportunity to add a rune puzzle to the hall of stories but instead decided to cater to the most braindead audience you can imagine: Playtesters.
And that summarizes how much potential was simply wasted during Skyrim's development. Why make it sophisticated when your target audience are morons. And that's modern Bethesda even more: Aiming for the sub-90 IQ Indian and Chinese masses. It's not marketed for the western gamers anymore.
